well i guess if JR's market is low end, "gee the best games were old games" market then his genius has surpassed mine. I would doubt seriously that his reasoning behind the elongated devolopement of daikatana was to eventualy hit up the "starving for some classic gaming" crowd... pulease... why must the slashdot readers be so "backwardscompatible"... just because i use linux, it doesnt mean that i use a 486/386... for christs sake there is no money in releasing a new version of some console game that only plays on consoles.. ok? do you understand that? while some folks are willing to produce such a game in their spare time, there arent any(or are there?) companies that will do so, with the intentions of making any money. ID intends to make money.
while i agree with your synopsis of the game it self, i do disagre with the direction that "FPS" games should take. I really feel that events like the razercpl offer a new venue for pc based games, especially 3d shooters. events like this that are pulled off with the apparent success that this one, should only increase the possibility for future ventures into promoting "pc gaming" into a legitimate sport. sport as in chess is a sport....
haha bya biatch.. you lose.. i couldn't give 2 shits bout your lame ass post... your just another asshole seeking revenge through the anonimity of the net... hopefully you at least stopped beating your wife/kid/pet...
cmon dude? are you f'n kidding me? q3 is the best of q1 and q2... it has everything the qw whiners wanted and all the q2 players still wanted... god dammit if ever carmack buckeled it was making q3. where the real fault of the game is trying to make too many people happy... lets face it.. you have 2 camps: qw is gods gift to mankind, and q2 rules... blah blah blah... play the game or quit bitching..
i think q3 is a very playable game, i will admit that the maps are shit, and therein lies the games real weakness. the inability for id's designers to make interesting and playable maps. look no further than the difficulty involvded with finding 4 acceptable maps when it came to putting 40k on the line.
puuulease dude, you are talking about THE fps shooters of the last decade. actually you are referring to the people who defined the FPS. The game that just caused the latest tourny winner to be 40k richer. yes thats right... its a lot of money (at least to me). but reagardless this game is gonna be shit.. they released the demo 6 months ago(only playable on one of those newbie gaming sites) it was weak.. yes there was some interesting stuff, but rain "aint" gonna make it the next quake.... this game is lost money... jr should dump the company and just keep screwing killcreek... he will be better off. he got no skilz without JC pushing him. (period)
dude this game has zero... nothing to offer... it's based on 3 year old technology... who th fuck wants to bother with it? i mean cmon, ya think the sp side of it is worth the purchase? get real... this game was dead a year ago....or an engine ago
i agree. its akin to saying "hey i just developed this thing called a toaster, it cooks bread. well not really, it just makes it crispy, it tastes good with jelly..."
that was a map pack... which was essential, seeing as the game only shipped with 4 CTF maps. But there was nothing added that wasn't in the box.
There was no hook, or runes (as they were known in previous versions). A number of the "old-school" ctf players view the current out-of-the-box CTF as crippled. Personally, I find it to be playable, though a hook would be a nice option.
I was hoping for further developement, as we saw in previous versions.
Can't help but wonder if he will still develop Q3 CTF. It has been theorized that his work on Q3 CTF has been curtailed due to the wishes of folks at Id. It will be interesting to see if a ThreeWave CTF is released in the coming months. I know there are plenty of peeps in the community hoping he brings the "magic" back. (or at least the hook;) )
I hope this doesn't effect Linux support... as that would truly be tragic.
Yup, thats it... and two pieces of inexpensive pressboard...
The stand used to hold a 75gal freshwater aquarium. It now holds 6 systems, ups... etc. The bottom shelf is plenty tall for those big towers. It really works well, and if you keep your eyes peeled I bet you can snag one cheap at a garage sale this spring.
BTW corrugated black plastic tubing is great for cleaning up that plate of spaghetti you call wiring. But make sure you plan it well, its kind of a pain to rearrange it once you have it all tidied(sp?) up.
total cost around $50 (usd).
oh yeah, anyone know a good electrician? I beginning to think that one outlet in my office isnt enough...:)
I have to tell you Scott you have really struck a nerve with me.
Who died and left you in charge of judging "what is, and isn't funny" ?? I read some of your strips, the humour is remeniscent of the sunday comics, amusing but far from funny.
Mind you I have never laughed out loud at UF, but the familiarity and the frustration that the cartoon portrays, I can surely relate to. Therefore, I find it amusing. On the other hand, playing video games against what appears to be Barney, I cannot relate to.
Your "Help Desk" experience is quite impressive. You are/were what is referred to as a trained monkey, your actual computer experience/knowledge is limited to that of memorizing (as you put it), a script. Or as some people would call it, a FAQ. You memorize the FAQ, and it's answers, and you are magically made into a computer technician. BS!! You are a low cost alternative to a skilled and trained professional.
Building systems? Assembling the componets of systems is not at all a difficult task. I could set up a boot disk to ghost an image onto the hd, after you "assembled" it, and you would be building systems. Does that make you knowledgeable? I think not.
Overall, I would (if looking for a trained monkey) offer you $8 an hour. Need a job Scott? Keep it in mind.
I will tell you whats funny though... The VP of marketing calling you once a week to ask how-to make a shortcut to a folder on the server. Then 15 minutes later getting calls from a dozen marketing people saying all the sales reports have disappeared from the server... Can you imagine what he did? So then I patiently walk down to his office and go over with him (again) how to make a shortcut, while he glares at me like I am an asshole. The "poor under-educated users", BS!! These people have been working on computers for years, staring at them for 8 hours a day, and have never even once attempted to learn anything. WHY?? Cause it is sooo much easier to pick up the phone and call the SysAdmin , and harrass him with this BS, than to put forth any effort. It's sad. If I can spend my evenings in the office reading man-pages, the least they can do is take notes when they call me and ask me how to do the same thing, over and over and over and over. Their lazy, obnoxious, self-important bums.
When I first started using Linux (coming from a M$ world) it took me a few hours after that initial install to figure out how to mount a floppy. But Ya know what Scott? I (when learning new things) keep a pad and pencil next to me, in order to take notes. I wrote it down Scott, yep thats right, so I wouldn't have to embarrass myself again by asking that question in #linuxhelp. Ya know what Scott, after writing it down, I didn't have to look at it again. Ya know why that is Scott? Because I have the ability and desire to learn new things. It is the latter that the users are lacking, and it is the latter that me mock. We(I?) mock their laziness. Not their inability to learn, because I have users who can learn. they remember what I tell(teach) them.
I tell you what Scott, you stick to your little fantasy world of playing Madden2000 with Barney and I will stick to reading UF and laughing with my fellow computer professionals about our users.
I left everything up and running... the last thing i need is customers calling and not getting our voicemail, or other amenities, and then thinking these outages are related to the date. If sh*t happens, I wont be alone, and people will be far busier with their own problems to be harassing me.
I have taken all precautions, done tests, applied patches... blah blah blah.. as long as the game is played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, and the Bills win I will be happy....
btw, i am pretty sure both my linux boxes (at home) aren't gonna rollover, but they are staying on.
uhm well , the load glx.so part I thought was only necessary for TNT cards.
but the game running slowly like you say, and you have a voodoo 3, would leave me to believe you did not install the 3dfx device driver, available on the 3dfx page. try insmod 3dfx.so
I have been playing it since the first test, it has solid gameplay. Far better than the first Q2 release. Q3 has gone through a much longer "test" period, than Q2 did. Therefore Q3 will be in a better state than Q2 at release time.
All one needs to do is play the demo and see for themselves. Why would a person think the game will digress?
A 6 month beta test can't be considered a pressured release.
BTW, as for waiting for the Linux version. Just go get your self the win32 version, and then buy a Linux copy when it comes out. I payed $40 for Q2, and played it countless hours over the last 2 years. Thats a good investment for my entertainment dollars. I wouldn't have a problem shelling out $80 for a good cause, and to a company which has provided me with sooo much entertainment over the last 5 years.
I would agree, actual MHZ is irrelevant. But game performance (to a point) is critical. When ya play competively, every little extra means something. I dont go out and buy the latest and greatest just to have it. i upgrade when i feel the ugrade will improve performance by a signifigant margin. I dont sell a p2 500 and buy a p3 550, but I will upgrade to a v5 6000 (from my tnt2 Ultra) if it pans out to be a good product. just like i will dump my dual 550's for a athlon 750 (when prices come down). and when adsl comes to town, i will consider dropping RoadRunner.
If you play games online casually, this theory may seem rash. But, if ya take it seriously, (everyone has their hobbies, right?) then you have to keep your equipment up to date. to each his own.

bah fuck you... watta say we settle this on q3dm13 ? or perhaps q3dm6? you bitch ass fuck.
hood ? bell? shit dude you got me there, i got no idea what your talking about.... anyways..
if you want to discuss why daikatana is such a waste of money, feel free to post.. otherwise take your bullshit elswhere.
otherwise, your just another statistic when it comes to why slashdot sucks....
ya fuck ... :) keep refreshing the page

does www.anadtech.com crash yours too? Might be me .. running a beta browser on a beta OS (win2k) is usually not good :)

OMG i got moderated up!!! my first time!!!
I am very proud!! Thanks, whoever did it.
What better way to bring in the new year than to be moderated up?
if the world ends in a few hours at least i will die knowing I have a karma of 1.
I left everything up and running... the last thing i need is customers calling and not getting our voicemail, or other amenities, and then thinking these outages are related to the date. If sh*t happens, I wont be alone, and people will be far busier with their own problems to be harassing me.

I defy the "bug", I will make my stand here!
"First of all, sovereignty sucks"
your kidding right?
Most dogs develop and understanding of several hundred words as they mature. Not Shakespeare by any means, but quite an accomplishment anyways.
I am sure the "first post" couldn't boast such a grasp of the English (or any other) language.
"all messages in a queue for a set period of time (say 24 hours)"
hmmm just like gun laws.. huh? well it has worked for guns (hasnt it?) why not email.
of course its very easy to circumvent those types of "safety" mechanisms. Now if it couldnt be turned off, then it would be effective (for guns too)

you were right on.. definetly better in vertex...
BTW switching from vertex to lightmap ( and vice versa) in the game is bad voodoo, at least for me it was.
