Good riddance to them - they amount of time I've wasted over the years blocking ads via different methods is astronomical ! - er,well, quite a lot then;)
Google have got the right method and thank god for Mozilla and Open Source !
The right click "block images from this server" I do without even thinking these days - on the odd occassion I have to use iexplore, I find myself right clicking on banners to try to block them and realise how far behind it is as a browser.
I'd rather they went belly up than get bought out though...
Google are going to sell our surfing secrets to the terrorists ! - Hell, worse still, to the Iraqis ! - Oh NO, Wait, we ARE the Iraqis ! - arrghghgh - The Irainians, the Iranians, they have NUKES - arrhghghg ! - Help, save us George W ! - Arghgh !
A Newbie to Linux is not going to have much fun installing the Ubuntu Warty 4.1 release, unless they just let it "do it's own thing" which will more than likely end up destroying all the data they have on thier hard drive, namely, windows.
Perhaps a "newbie to Debian" would be a more accurate description.
I tried it recently and as a slackware 'fancier' I must admit it didn't suit me. In fact, I've never been able to get used to the idiosyncracies of Debain based distributions, even though it's supposedly so easy.
I installed and am giving it the benefit of the dought - who knows, perhaps I'll become a convert and learn to love the Debian way as much as I like Slackware !
But Ubuntu a newbies distro ? - wow, maybe the LiveCD, but the i386 I tried is anything but !
After all, it's SCO they are dealing with and to be honest, I don't know anyone who would want to deal with them, except maybe the guy with the horns and the tail.
I know who I'd rather back in a dispute of this nature, given the track records overall.
Bloody hell, there's nothing worse that a warm office, unless of course your a woman !
The perfect temperature for an office is around 20°C/68°F if your a guy.
For women, the perfect temperature would be around 40°C/104°F, or at least you would think so;)
Where on earth the get the idea that a warm office makes you more productive I just don't know - more bullshit stats. It just makes you sleepy.
It's like some other stupid stats I read about the sex of babies - according to a study on about 3000 couples, they are more likely to have a boy if they live together. Yep folks, the results were 51% boy, 49% girl - for christ sake, who funds this rubbish ?
Scratches head and pretends to know who the hell Alice and Bill were, then realises "hmm, don't live in that big country" and wanders off muttering something about Tandy, Radioshack, ZX Spectrums, i386's and rainy weather on a small isle somewhere west of France...

Hopefully they implement it correctly.
Bottom line - if your into online gaming, don't bother with it - latency is way too high. In relation, if you administer PC's remotely (servers and what not) - don't bother.
If you want inside info on the South African implementation that comes from the users rather than the media, hang a left to this forum:-
http://www.mybroadband.co.za/ - go to the forum section and then to the MyWireless part. This is what Sentech have labelled the technology.
If it works, it works brilliantly - when it doesn't, well, you'll find info on that forum link I just posted;)
Sentech over here royally fucked up the launch with problems from may right through to September - starting to come right now, but that may be because half thier userbase cancelled.

This may not sound like wonderful news to those countries with a comprehensive telecommunications infrastructure, such as the USA, Asia and parts of Europe, but for countries with smaller infrastructures, it's great news.
South Africa, where I live, has a 'first world' infrastructure for the majority of uses, but for broadband internet, we simply don't cut it yet. Broadband is priced at a premium, with your average 512k ADSL connection 3 times the cost of developed countries and capped at 3gig a month.
Recently, we saw the introduction of Sentech Mywireless, using technology from IPWireless - the UMTS Standard. They had some major teething problems initially, but seem to be stabalising thier operations after loosing a lot of customers due to poor service implementation (read: underestimated the demand)
Later this year, a competitor, iBurst, who are already conducting tests, will roll out thier service with an official opening in the first quarter of 2005 - they currently run the Lotto network in South Africa. They'll be using IntelliCell technology from ArrayComm.
And finally, our wonderfull national telecom company (Telkom), who still hold the monopoly despite deregulation, will be introducing WiMax technology to South Africa in 2005 in partnership with Intel.
For a country starved of broadband options for years, wireless technology has become "the holy grail" of broadband for South Africans.
Tried it today on slack 10, 2.6.7 kernel, 6111 drivers.
Got pretty much exactly the same timedemo benchmark as win32 (same box), although I could swear it felt smoother and sharper somehow. I think I can coax a bit more out of it - I could with Linux Quake3.
Pity about the 5.1 sound - I really hope they get a patch for that soon as it's a big part of what makes the game fun.
For the record, it seems you have to be running X in 24bit mode - unsure if that was the case for quake3 too ?
Another thing, which would only apply to the small percentage interested - no editor support under linux. No idea if this is planned for a future patch, but GTKRadiant now supports Doom 3 (without the render preview in the current build)
Still, kudos to id software for supporting Linux !
Edmund: Yes, another great Christmas tradition: explaining the rules eight times to the Thicky Twins. The round hasn't in fact started yet. It's got to be a specific book. For instance, if it was The Bible, I would go like that [holding up two fingers] to indicate that there are two syllables in it...
Prince: Two what?
Edmund: Two syllables.
Prince: Two silly bulls? I don't think so, Blackadder -- not in The Bible. I can remember a fatted calf, but, as I recall, that was quite a sensible animal. Oh, ah! It's it, um, er, Noah's Ark, with the, er, two pigs, two ants, and two silly bulls? Is that it?
"internet users feel confident, secure and empowered"
Hmmm, I always wondered why my voice has taken on a booming quality and how instead of sticking to the shadows when walking, I now stride confidentally down the street waving at everyone I meet.
And that's just when I'm online !
I always knew this internet thingy was good for you and now I have my proof !
Oh, I'm sorry madam, the life support system is running a microsoft OS and it seems it just 'Blue Screened', we're aufully sorry about your husband !
Nope.
Sounds to me like China's space program is really going well and also that China is very much a potential super power - time will tell.
Thanks - I'll have a look at that !

Hello, whose there ?
Is that a Coward I can see ?
I bet your an Anonymous Coward, or failing that, an asshole.
Finally, a possible answer to why Toast ALWAYS falls butter side down in uncontrolled experiments !
Of course, this still doesn't mean we can get a perpetual motion engine by strapping said toast to a cats back, but we can hope !
I see a new form of energy just round the corner, CatToastOnics !
I see it all now, there was never any FUD !

Is is possible to bridge the digital divide ?
TomTom,
I'd be more excited with a tasty Burger right now - a semi-rare patty with gherkin, mustard and ketchup, dripping juices, toasted buns, ahhh.
My PDA is covered in tasty juices !
I'd rather have a burger than a PDA !
Yes - buffer overruns and nice things like that.
*buffer* *overruns* *with* *sexy* *little* *stars*
