    When removing /etc /bin /sbin backups from /var/backup I had a few stray slashes ;) :-

    rm -R -f /etc/ /bin/ /sbin

    Then I rebooted ....

    I was really hoping that the next iteration of slack would have the 2.6 kernel as default - my hopes are dashed.

    I'm not an uber-geek, I like to meddle with Linux and really like Slackware - I managed to compile the 2.6 kernel with slackware 9.1 after a LOT of effort and reading up and the speed increases were amazing, however, I couldn't get everything working - too busy trying to earn a living.

    Damn - why the hell are they not adopting it for 10 ?

    Arrr, whatever, I'll wait till 10.1 :)

    It's because Nasa forgot to install windscreen wipers and windolene spray. The solar panels get covered in dust because it's really really dusty on mars. There's nobody around with a feather duster either.

    Eventually, the solar panels get covered in a layer of dust and that means the rovers can't see where they are going and fall of the edge of craters or bump into big rocks like Yogi.

    If a rover falls on it's back, it can't right itself again because NASA forgot to install a robotic arm that could flip the rover back onto it's wheels.

    To be able to ditch windows and natively run applications such as Photoshop or Dreamweaver on the same hardware I currently own would be a dream come true!

    This starts making Linux a very viable software platform in terms of established software companies such as Adobe and Macromedia.

    Being a designer, this is the key area I'd love to see Linux flourish in.
