I was totaly hopeing for a vid clip of somekind of mechnical device prying open the eye and pulling up the eyebrow...aka a clockwork orange.
So disappointed.
My youngest child acually has TSC (tuberous sclerosis complex).
Perhaps the worst part is watching her struggle to fit in while completly aware that she does'nt. She is normal enough that anyperson seeing her on the street on in a restruant etc might think without carefull observation that she is at worst a young girl who has not gotten enough sleep, or is "haveing a bad day" behaviorly, however everyday is like this.
We struggle daily with her attitude and behavior however. This was hard enough when she was younger, but as she gets older more and more I find myself wondering what will become of her. There is no 'fix' for her.
Any hope is good hope. -Amen
So you think there's a major gap in lifestyle between yourself and that neighboor 5 blocks away behind the gate? What about between you and the hungry in africa living on $3 a day?
Now...Imagine the wealthy who can afford this treatment, and the money they will pay to make sure the lower classes DON'T get it.
The idea that we might acually be able to reverse ageing before we can colonize anouther planet makes me shudder.
However..such a techinique might be usefull for deep space missons, to bad that is only the pipedreams of good sci-fi.
I wonder what the networth of the attention take 2 got from this is worth.
Surely far more than the cost of paying out the penalty and the fees of the lawers that they probably have on full time retainer anyhow.
There are a lot more interesting things in SL than just the furry scene, Although if that's what your into I suppose that's what you will find.
There are some interesting persistant world Sims for Star trek, Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars amounst other things.
Are you implieing that we are running around in circles with no decernable goal? If yes then I agree.
What America needs now is a goal, America is a country that is at it's best when we have something to do.
Was there a better time in our history then when the president vowed to put a man on the moon? How many jobs were created by this effort? How many great technogies resulted from it? How many children were given a dream of some alturistic job they could aspire to in the future?
Let's put a fist down on the podium and say "We are going to colonize mars" or "We will have a university for astronomers on the moon!"
I remember makeing a small program in basic back in "the day" on my apple II+ that would allow others to call my computer via my 300baud modem and ask questions of the "AI" program I was developing.
Of course it was nothing more than a magic 8 ball type system that allowed me to preformat a line or three of text to be thrown in at will while I was watching the screen to make it seem smarter.
Yes it was a stupid joke, but it supplied me with a week or two worth of laughes.
UNconfirmed but sent to me as a museing credited to George shortly after his wife died. It speaks to me in his style...I like to think it was his.
A Message by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?
What about the public...What happens when public access points become the route of choice for these downloaders?
I can see it now when the library has no broadband..
Or the local coffee shop?
Or the next door neighbor who had little knowledge about secureing his wireless router...
Perhaps if we allocated a bit more budget to paying teachers a decent living wage they would be more inclined to find ways to challenge the gifted students rather than just cruising along bringing the slackers up to state testing standards.
Just as there are IEP programs for developmentally challenged children their should be for mentally gifted.
Currently this is not the case.
I'm to busy working away at my day job trying to figure out how to pay off my loans while my money buys less food for my family, and filling the tank to my car takes all my "fun money".
So maybe if they really want me all they need to do is ask, I could use anouther part time job.
My user name is an email address at hotmail. Feel free to send offers.
Perhaps the worst part of this travesty of justice is that by doing this rather than pardoning him, this traitor still can continue to appeal, and Still will have the ability to plead the 5th in other cases related to the matter.
in other words he can Cover of Bush and Cheney by pleading the 5th because he case is not pardoned.
How convienant.

I've been outsourceing my replies to /. for about the last three weeks. (why do you think I bothered to start logging on?)
When it's real, you will hear it's not.

Ideal? I'll belive that when someone shows me tribes2 running on a vista machine.

Wow who would have guessed, it would be rounded..and have windows. So glad I could see the image to verify.

Now all we need to do is ship some vodka and vermouth there and we can call Mars civilized.

Perhaps this same technology could be used to drop aid in Burma....
