As being one of my favorite games on the Amiga it was a platformer of sorts and there was some killing of thing..(i think), but the real challenge of the game was to solve the puzzles laid before you by the "gods" that would acually allow you move forward. Sometimes it was a sequence of switched that interacted with one anouhter, or an almost tetris like need to build a platform. It was challenging and fun.
Nowadays I can honestly say I've logged more hours on my 360 playing Hexic than anything else.
There is a lot of research going on into improving not only the output of solar but into lowering the cost of manufacturing them. Nanotechnologies have in lab tests have shown certain avenues of current research may have the ability to increase performance of basically existing tech by as much as 25%, sure they are a ways to go before any kind of mass production can be done with this research but it's there.
Increaseing acceptance by the population as to the usefullness of the equipment will of course generate more investor dollars into this research, and frankly I'd much rather see this than more research into increaseing payload output of bombs.
Some areas stil have much they could do to encourage the adoption of solar too.
being able to sell engery to the grid rather than just offset the cost of what you bought for instance in California alone would be a boon to the industry.
Sometimes when trying to track down a bug a system of elimination must be used. You check places where problems could be, either based on previous issues you've run across or just logically. When your asking for help it's not really logical to expect the person helping you to explain every thought going through their head or little thing they look at it's distracting and can end getting you sidetracked quite easily.
Imagine you went to the doctor because of a health issue you wanted diagnosed..it may not be blood pressure related but there's a good chance that they will take your pressure when you arrive just to make sure they don't miss something more serious.
You should be far less worried that they did look then why you were bothered by it. Having done support in the past I can tell you that I looked at a lot of "private" data in various forms but did it with a sense of detachment, I was not interested in the data, I could care less about what I was looking it...what I was looking for was the solution, to the prolem the customer was having. Anything I may have seen in the process of looking for the problem was just incidental.
Posting this article on slash was pointless. Sure any self respecting geek is looking forward to tron2 but really are we down to posting bootleg trailers that are poorly shot from 900 ft away?
Why should'nt it collapse...everything else is...
Inflation takes it's tolls in many ways, Not only to do things cost more to buy. But many things get sold less.
It's amazing to me that so many intelligent people who have such interest in physics, astrology, science, quantum theroy and the like...do not see the universe as as testiment to God...
The more I learn the more I see.
God is in the details.
We have not even had a proper chance to prove once and for all that mouse keyboard is superior to controller input on a cross platform supporting FPS shooter yet.
The mouse is simple, hard to break and can respond with an amazing amount of precisson with the right setup. Sure Facial recognition and touchscreens may work for public kiosks like say in a library or when your registering for your wedding gifts at macys but will never replace the mouse for First person gameing.
wait...you mean that if they win this suit that Microsoft could add a EULA that their products could only be installed on Microsoft branded machines?
hmmmm not sure if that would be a bad thing or not.
You seem to make a lot of false assumptions about SL, and probably did your "friend" no favors with your description of "what it was all about" certainly If I thought what it was all about was sex between human/animal hybrids I would probably not be so interested in a class on the subject either.. (gratifying or not)
However many schools are looking at SL as in inovative approach to learning.
http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Second_Life:_Universities_and_Private_Islands
provides a small list of schools that have expressed interest.
with Names on the list like Stanford and MIT i think you might want to rethink your estimation of what the potential is.
Lindens servers don't cost money though, Not unless you looking to own land.
If your looking to run a specialized Sim I could easily see poeple renting some billboard room on the linden grid directing interested parties to an "off grid" server.
Certainly if the ease to connect to these servers is there it will happen.
you might try different regions. I've found the building standards in some sims are far lower than others..Also some regions are laggyier than others, Primary due to uneeded topheavy scripts running or extreamly high primative counts.
While it takes a minute or two to fully rez a good sim, once your in things run pretty smooth. True I am running a system that was built from the ground up for FPS gamming. If you on a out of the box home class Dell your results may vary.
Also people tend to want to set their banwidth settings to high. Even with cable a setting of 500 seems to give the best results.
In these summer seasons even the most avid readers will find themselves distracted by many things.
you might consider some collections of short stories...
I can't honestly remeber the titles of any of the books / stories I read when I was a preteen but I do remember cutting my teeth so to speak on poeple I had heard were "classics"
Ray bradbury comeing to mind.
There's an awefull lot of decent Star Wars universe books out there now which are fun reading if they enjoyed star wars.
I seem to recall having read a lot of doctor who books as well, mostly from the older (per tom baker) doctors that I was'nt able to see here in the states.
I'd love to see one of the guys slick at handleing cards, slip a couple extra aces into the deck, or the like. Would the program adapt?
Draw a laser and call him a no good sack of mostly water?
I had heard timbers from an old bell tower, the rumor being that years of exposure to the vibrations from the bells had imparted some sort of mojo upon the wood.
As the lawyer was leaving he was pulled from his BMW and thrown to the street as a 15 year old told him what for..as he jacked his car and ran over a hooker leaving the garage.
Perhaps a bit of this is the desire to stand out for their good works.
Google has been on such a roll latley I would imagine that even if you came up with the sweet new feature or revolutionary new web app, that if might get piled into the heap of great new features and great new apps. At Microsoft however these days the public perception seems to be (amounst those that I know) that they do little right and are genrally a top heavy monolith. Could not the "wiz kid" with a few freash ideas garner much more attention in such an envirnoment. And perhaps in doing so come more to the attention of the offer makers at google?
1: put in a couple years at microsoft
2: become a "star"
3: get even better offer than what you would make by working your way up through the crowd at google.
4: Profit...
sorry I'm new if I messed that up.

I've been waiting for the justification and if this is'nt it to spend $300 some odd dollars on anouther game system I don't know what is!

it's more visually interesting than a bad stucco patch though.
This is the same guy who could rationalize being the spam king...go figure.
Now they will have to post the judgment in Missed Connections.

Finally Maybe someone can make that Tempest transition screen between pages I've been waiting for!

Well this should certainly make Sir Mixalot very happy..... wait...nevermind.
Sounds to me like the critical factor was paitence. The robot plays deffensivly. Most human players will go for a score on most shots.
This must be one of the best ways to get a research grant to pay for an air hockey table I've ever heard.

Google search string AVG...10 hits ... /. x 10 maybe they will rethink the wisdom.
