there is not enough information released as of yet, but i really hope for a greater diversity of features and hardware. i really want a better (sturdier) piece of hardware than the G1 that has a keyboard and an SD slot. (or 2!)
i googled the ones on the list that were bold (which apparently indicates they are currently for sale) and i didn't see any that had a keyboard. they all appeared superficially similar in design: touchscreen iphone lookalikes. that is really too bad, i like keyboards.
what kind of asshole has such a narrow worldview that he can't see the obvious problem with your assumptions?
not everyone lives in suburbia and not everyone drives a car. some cities are designed around mass transit commuting. some people carry a bag with them all the time that has a computer in it. movie theaters don't have lockers. get the picture?
both you and the GP have interesting posts, and i wanted to respond just to give a counter example. i am not so arrogant that i would deny the validity of what you are saying, but my experience with a similar issue was very different. sometimes it is good to see a contrast in anecdotes, no?
i took several women's studies classes in college (yeah, i was that one guy in the class) and we discussed class/race/gender extensively. there would be lots of talk about how being a member of a 'privileged' group could be blind to or unaware of their privilege. there was never a suggestion that this person was "automatically" classist/racist/gender biased. being a member of 'privileged' class/race/gender is something that one generally has little choice in. being biased against a group is active, it is a belief set that one usually acts on or uses to govern their actions.
there are people that hold the beliefs that you and the GP are describing, but i am surprised that they are being taught at face value. that is an example of a time in which the professor should be teaching the debate, not just teaching one side of it. i do recall a discussion in a feminist theory class that was evoked with a questions similar to "are men inherently sexist? can a man be a feminist? does being the member of a privileged group make one unable to understand disadvantage and work for change?"
the consensus was that men are not inherently sexist, but it is easy for a man to be blind to their privilege. this could be extrapolated to different groups and issues. i have found this to be true in me, and in my experiences. interesting stuff, and i am sorry that your professors were blind to the problems with how they were teaching about race.
really? so all those people earning less than that but who are their own boss, doing something they love are just poor chumps? not everyone wants to work a job they pretty much hate so that they can write checks at the end of the month for shit they don't need.
exactly. the people who do what you do will continue to do that, with incremental improvements in filtering technology and software that they run on their box(es). and the people who do what i do will continue to do nothing at all. relying on someone else to do the filtering and access it from whatever device, where ever i am and not manage the box(es) ourselves. and out of these two groups very few will ever buy a one cent stamp for an email.
this isn't the court case. the GP doesn't need to produce citations just because you demand it. this is a bunch of people discussing the filing of the lawsuit. the nature of a casual discussion is to share opinions, not list facts. the GP is allowed an opinion. you are not the judge. get over yourself.
maybe so that by the time we have the technological means to cross that great distance and interact with other civilizations we have had to mature to the point that we will not destroy them.
the coffee shop i go to has those huge power strips with about 40 outlets on them, usually found on the wall in a lab. no shortage of plugs there! if every person that there is a chair for had 4 devices drawing AC power there might be a shortage of outlets.
learn to read, man. he said: "most of the time they don't even buy anything" which would mean that they are inside the shop and without a cup of coffee.
this kind of leech does cost something, as they are using up 2 finite resources: bandwidth and a table. i have seen it myself and it pisses me off when there are no tables left and i bought something.
it is pretty funny how when your argument has no weight and you have no honest rebuttals to offer you quickly turn to a personal attack. it really shows that the only arrogant person in this discussion is you. you don't deserve a positive mod for this vitriol.
i was hoping that was what you would say. after struggling and failing i was wondering if i was incapable of using a "pro" quality firewall, or what. i don't think i had a beta (i usually don't mess with them) but i think i had a bad version. when researching the problem i saw it was in the transition from 2 to 3 i knew that there was a chance that they had hosed something. glad to know that you have used a newer stable version. i will give it a shot again and hopefully have better results. thanks for the feedback & info.
i agree with TropicalCoder about using an outbound firewall. something infected me a while ago and nothing would catch it while the drive was running the OS. the only reason i noticed was that randomname.exe was dialing out. mounted the drive on another PC and successfully identified the source files and cleaned it.
but that's not why i responded. i have to tell you that comodo is one of the worst pieces of...software...that i have ever had the misfortune of trying to use. it comes up here frequently as a great firewall/AV, so i gave it a shot. i uninstalled all previous security software and installed set it up. i set it up to block all outbound and notify, so i could whitelist one by one. it allowed firefox to see the net once. and never again, even when i manually whitelisted the program. even after i disabled the firewall and rebooted a dozen times. when i checked the forums were filled with similar tales of silent failure and ignoring manual whitelists and other settings. from what i could tell the new version (3 something? this was a few months ago) was buggy as hell. comparing my results with the experiences of others i think that it might have been silently blocking DHCP. in the end it was two days wasted, still no net, and i gave up because the fix looked more involved than i wanted to get.
check out DealExtreme, for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter: $1.85 and has a built in mic. i have had good luck purchasing from them and when i bought there was no shipping charges. it sucks that you have to buy one, but if you do at least get one that is cheap like it should be. around here similar adapters cost 10 times this much money at a phone store.
seeqpod was one of my favorite sites. very unhappy about it being killed. it was nice to punch in a band, hear a few tracks and see if you liked it or not.
depending on the user, it could be pre-sale research which would be a good thing for record companies.
Digital is clearly killing off niche photographic product development and manufacture.
ah, well, i am going to disagree there. i can't ignore the resurgence in interest in lomography and the fact that chain retailers are selling the Holga. for example, redscale film is just newly being manufactured so that you don't have to wind it yourself. i would argue that the niche is alive and well.
in my estimation, it is the mainstream casual photographers that have converted wholesale to digital. good riddance. most (like my parents) couldn't get a film snapshot that wasn't jacked up to save their lives. for casual point and shoot, digital is more convenient. if you don't know what you are doing with the camera, it is also much cheaper to throw away the 60% of your shots that are ruined by your lack of skills.
Another sign that digital cameras are slowly phasing out analog
this is not a sign of anything. the article is being used by the submitter in an attempt to prove a point that he wants to make. in fact, if you read the entire article the assertion of the summary is clearly not supported. this film is hard to develop and there is only one lab in the US that does so. it also is among the worst-selling film that Kodak makes:
Kodachrome accounted for less than 1 percent of the company's total sales of still-picture films
so the story here is that Kodak got rid of the bottom selling film of their line. companies do that all the time, and this has nothing to do with digital cameras. film is still sold pervasively and easy developed at dozens of establishments in most towns.

i didn't reply to you. check the nesting once more...

Good money is $100,000 a year net before tax

did you miss the part where they are being sued in a country that they do not reside in?
so the bug can knock the user off the wireless network, eh? some sort of denial of service for cell phones? almost like they are being jammed?

so before thumb drives were invented you printed out each frame of a film and put them in a photo album? that's...odd
if you bring 5,000 pictures over to my house and expect me to look at them all you will be out on the porch so fast you will be dizzy!
