You'd think with that amount of money they could hire a web designer to give them an "alternative" HTML-based site in addition to their flash site.
You might think so, but these are some visually oriented guys. That's their thing. They like shiny sparkly things that make cool sounds. Apparently, it hasn't gotten in the way of generating income:-)
Slashdot has semi-major problems almost every day. 503 errors, "nothing for you to see here" annoyances, and a search engine that goes down more than a Thai hooker.
Oh man, that would be one *fantastic* search engine! Is there a Google beta for this?
She's a particular hero of mine, and has been fighting Monsanto for years (as well as a number of other companies with similarly questionable practices). I happened to catch a lecture of hers on local access television, and was fascinated. Of course, I'm a nerdy geek, so strange things fascinate me. Here's some links to some interviews with her over the years.
See, you're not the only one that can screw up an election! And I'm not just talking about Ohio, either. Nossir, we'll be in the record books for good. Or until the next guys come along.
That's a fair point. And there were already irregularities noticed in the Democrats' favor a little while back. I voted for the Democratic ticket, but I've occasionally regretted it since:-).
Right you are, we won't actually know. Oregon may be more or less safe, but there are problems even in reasonably stable Washington state. 700 votes were mistakenly marked invalid, and state judges have chosen to block those votes from being counted. So add Washington to the list of problem states.
Not only is Mr X a lawyer, looks like he's an author of heartwarming tales such as I'll Make You an Offer You Can't Refuse - Coercive Plan Tactics and How Much Is That Doggie In The Window: Valuation Issues In Bankruptcy. Real warm and cozy stuff.
I dunno, seems pretty offensive to me. There's also supposed to be some kind of hassle between user switching on Windows versus user switching with Expose on OS X. Not to be confused with similar effects to be had on a machine running multiple instances of X11.
*sigh* I hope I never understand patent law, but it would sure be nice to make enough money to hire somebody who does.
Let's see, for pure bile-producing rage, nothing has yet to match up with Ruins of Myth Drannor for me. I was all pumped and excited about playing a game that used the new 3rd Edition D & D rules, plus the screenshots looked awesome. It turned out to be an unplayable suckfest on my machine due to controls that went randomly wild and redraw problems that made it hard to figure out what the heck was going on. Not only that, but I couldn't even get one of the patches to install properly. I probably would have traded the game back in, if not for the fact that I smashed the box under my foot to vent my frustration.
For most disappointing game, I have to go with Frontier: First Encounters. It was almost so much fun! I loved everything about it, except for its tendency to freeze the machine everytime I entered certain regions of space, or had a character live for more than a couple of game years. Blamed that one on alien intervention and moved on. Too bad, that's the sort of game I love. The open-ended thing, not the malicious freezing thing.
I feel for you, really. Not being able to see your favorite sites is enough to make you toss the browser aside immediately. I've done the same thing plenty of times. One thing that would be really nice to know, though: what sites were causing you these troubles?
Also: cut-off address bar? Cut off by what?
This isn't intended to be poking at you in any way. It's just that I do tech support, and like to see specific complaints whenever possible.
Yeah, but did you notice the "by accessing this site you are agreeing to the terms of use" which shows up at the bottom of upn.com's front page?
Not half as annoying as the fact that it autoloads the main page. So is that message more like "By having flash and JavaScript on your browser, you are agreeing to the terms of use"?
I wouldn't think that an open letter with over a thousand signatures, and sharing the conversatin that resulted from that letter counts completely as "behind closed doors."
Well I'm not sure, but I hear that Anakin Skywalker becomes a bad guy at the end of this movie. Might be just a rumor, though.

I'm trying to remember. Was the Hotmail outage before or after they switched off of FreeBSD?
Oh man, that would be one *fantastic* search engine! Is there a Google beta for this?
You can't imagine the withdrawals I'm going through. It's like the great Slashdot brownouts of '98.
I need my fix, man!

Eh, just go to Google and look her up. You'll find loads of stuff, as she is a very busy woman.
Actually, I haven't read the Merchant of Venice, although I freely admit that I should. Would you mind explaining the reference?
Well, it wouldn't be significant, usually. But when the election lead is 42, 700+ votes suddenly become very significant.
See, you're not the only one that can screw up an election! And I'm not just talking about Ohio, either. Nossir, we'll be in the record books for good. Or until the next guys come along.
Man, I really hope we have a governor soon.
That's a fair point. And there were already irregularities noticed in the Democrats' favor a little while back. I voted for the Democratic ticket, but I've occasionally regretted it since :-).

Resolution limit of 320x240, eh? It looks like Pygame is still safe for now, except possibly in the retro-gamer arena :-)
... and he sure as hell has never been married. That was expensive!
More accurately, the divorce was expensive. But the marriage wasn't cheap either.

"A cup of something which tastes almost (but not entirely) unlike tea."
I thought they already served that. But the upgrade to Genuine People Personalities(tm) for the staff will be a nice switch.
I guess they were going towards the macho tough-guy with a gun thing. I think Keen3D, with his little watch and football helmet, would rule.
Anybody remember the Keen level in Doom 2? That was disturbing.

For some strange reason, OmniWeb and Metallifizer don't get along. The best workaround is to add OmniWeb to Metallifizer's "Exclude" list.

Don't mind me. I'm just a little crabby today...
Oh well, back to Wheel of Fortune.

of the day my mistrust of the government extended to their definition and treatment of "computer crimes."
I shared this story with just about everybody I knew after hearing about it, it was such a ridiculous case.
I can hardly wait until the story gets stale so I can get to the link ! :)
