Why would we need another java or flash? TFA is very sparse on details what is so much better about apollo and why that can't be done with flash or java. So unless they can generate a massive switchover from a lot of websites/developers to apollo, this technology is dead as a duck in the water.

My Father decided to buy a fresh Vista licence after using illegal versions before. That lasted about 3 days, then he decided to switch to linux (no, it had something to do with a 64bit intel compiler that was beer-free on linux only).

Indeed prejudice based on race is not the same as prejudice based on culture, hence the "borders on" instead of "is". But does the average Werner make this distinction when he says he hates Turks? In fact you are making this definition very narrow so you can justify your own racism/xenophobia. Besides, you only know your own culture, which is not the same in every european country. In my country for instance, prominent racist & xenophobic populists are routinely shot and we are very proud of it. Which leads me to wish you to meet your Volkert soon.
So while you think that you know Turkish culture good enough to judge that they are too different from EU culture, you don't know much about the other cultures in the EU. That makes your judgement about other cultures worth nothing.

I doubt that their law directly states that it is illegal to call the armenian genocide just that, but they do have some silly laws that forbid you to insult the turkish culture, nation, or identity (or some bs like that). Sometime after some judge ( the gouvernment) decided that this included naming the Armenian genocide(committed before the turkish state was created) that. Still a fucked up situation, but not one that you can just correct without political repercussions (like legalising flagburning in the US).

Did you know that before Cyprus was to be admitted, it had to reunite with the other half and form one country. So a referendum was held in both parts. The turkish part had a large majority for reunion. The greek part rejected the reunion so both parts were not reunited and as such did not comply with the EU demands. Instead of not admitting Cyprus, they went ahead and admitted the greek part(the part that rejected reunion) anyway. So why again do you want Turkey to recognise that half-nation? Lets not forget that this is a proxy conflict between greece and turkey, both behaving very childish over an island not much bigger than the channel islands. Why it should be an independent nation is beyond me.

This argument is always abused when somebody wants to argue that turkey should not be part of the EU. 'They' can not own up their atrocities, as the 'they' that committed them are long dead and buried. Only if you have very oldfashioned morals you can think that a country (or people as turkey is not the ottoman empire) carries this guilt over the generations. Its mostly racism that motivates these 'Turkey not in EU' plebs.

Wrong. There are no 2 accounts, but billions of theories about creation. The smarter scientists who 'find a strong correlation between the 2 accounts' will know that correlation does not automatically make a causual relationship. Maybe the authors that wrote your big-bang creation story have heard that holy book story of yours too. Even if you don't believe in it, it is still part of your cultural influence.
I suggest you read the F-ing article, it's quite an interesting read. But I don't expect that your tunnelvision will allow you to absorb new knowledge. You'll probably distort it in such a way that it fits your fairy tale image of the world.

  13. It's because of the battery chemistry. on Sanyo Blamed in Lenovo Battery Recall · · Score: 1

The batteries used nowadays are LiPo (Lithium Polymer) batteries. The upside of these is that their WattHours/weight ratio is the highest available. The downside is that these batteries can get in a so called thermal runaway situation, where the chemicals in the battery more or less provide their own shortcircuit. As LiPos can deliver massive amounts of current, this quickly leads to the cell rupturing and venting hot flammable gasses. The heat from this reaction will set off the reaction in the other cells (usually there are multiples of 3 cells in the pack). This runaway condition can be triggered by faulty charging, piercing the aluminium outer layer, or just chance/manufacturing defects.
Basically the chemistry of LiPo is asking for these kinds of problems. There is a much safer Lithium battery chemistry available (Lithium Sulfur-phosphate), but that has a lower watthours/weight ratio.

How can she recieve updates for it? How will dependencies be resolved for it?
The windows way is not an end-all for software management. In fact, it is one of the worst solutions. Part of this stems from the fact that there are so many different providers that do not allow being distributed from a repository. Most software on linux does, which gives you a very big advantage to be able to create a repository with software that works just right with eachother. It's too bad that despite your Linux experience, you cannot see that advantage.
That said, it would be cool if you could just send some type of link/scriptlett that made your apt-gui select for installation the current version from your preconfigured repository. Then you could send your granny a link that she could click on and click OK when the package manager asks her if she wants to install package XYZ and their dependencies libxyz and libsooperdooper. However, missing that functionality now does not weight up against all the advantages of a system that keeps all your software on your computer up to date without a problem.
BTW: the granny argument is a bad argument as it treats users as if they were stupid. Do you like to be called stupid?
