Not to mention completely ignoring the substantial differences between the G4 and the G3. I have an iBook 700, which has continued to get faster with each new OS release. The only real limiting factor for me now is the hard drive size. I'm contemplating a DIY upgrade of the hard drive, as soon as my Applecare runs out.
By contrast, my desktop machine is a Beige G3, with a 400mhz G4 upgrade. That machine seems faster than my laptop, and it probably is, using benchmarks.
It must be very nice for you, to be so superior. As someone who enjoys Star Trek for what it is, AND many other forms of science fiction for what they are, I take offense at your attitude. Purists in art and literature are like dry cleaner bags. Sure they keep things nice and clean, but they strangle small children when not kept out of the way by adults.
I'm preparing an Internet class for my school's 7th and 8th graders. I'm covering safe internet usage, virus/worm protection, privacy, Fair Use and respect for the rights of others.
Downloading the music you want to listen to, without paying for it is Not Fair Use, it's theft.
Uploading the music you have ripped from your own CD collection is Not Fair Use, it's copyright infringement.
Wholesale cut-n-paste of text from a web page is not Fair Use, it's plagiarism.
Ethics, morality, absolute truth and reason are woefully lacking in these Post-Modern days.

They are also being written by perl and C programmers who are tired of writing socket code, and want to get to the heart of the matter: the application the user needs to work.
Apple is a HARDWARE company. They make a really cool Desktop OS, and a really cool General Purpose Server OS. They do not necessarily make the best OS for a dedicated number-crunching cluster. You don't need all that Aqua/Quartz lickableness if all you are running is massive Fortran matrix apps.
I think some people can't handle the future. they're too afraid of getting smushed up by it.
Isn't that the end result of the last 30 years of Science Fiction? Most of the 'Golden Age' of Sci-Fi was Utopian, with minor exceptions. Starting in the 70's, it switched to a more Dis-topian view, including the new genre of Cyber-Punk. Very rarely is there the kind of enthusiasm and belief in Progress as there used to be. Tom Swift is out, Johnny Mnemonic is in.
Perhaps this is one reason why Fantasy is experiencing a resurgence. It's easier to be optimistic/nostalgic for an era which does not exist, did not exist, or exists 'Somewhere Else'.
Hell, people are STILL sending it to me....

Yes, Microsoft has a long way to go. But it's more than just releasing patches to fix holes. The idea of security is itself simply a patch on the windows operating system. Bill Gates has even acknowledged in the past that security needs to be more important. I just wonder if they are willing to do what is needed to make a system that has security, stability, and reliability at it's core.
... to overthrow the BBC Monopoly on broadcasting in Britain. This has to be a throwback to the kind of thinking that led to licenses to own radios and televisions, and the Gestapo-like radio detector vans. As bad as the FCC has been, on occasion, it has never been as draconian as the British governments stranglehold on the airwaves.
Who determines what goes into the database? What definitions are used to determine 'Corporate Mis-deeds'? Are they using perhaps successful criminal prosecutions, or vague charges by disgruntled whistle-blowers?
Will this database also include corporations who support anti-family, anti-morality organizations like Planned Parenthood or the United Way?
Of course, I will be modded down as flamebait, but it bears noting that not everyone around here is on the Liberal side of the aisle. Some of us who care about Corporate responsibility want to see these concerns addressed across the board, not just in support of liberal causes.

2 things. Wireless headphones, and wireless remote. (Maybe even one with a display.)
They should ask Johnny Knoxville.
Mis-type. See above.
My wife has us drinking Skim milk these days. It might as well BE water. ;-(

Just curious. What apps do you need, that you think won't run on OS X?
If you've got source, it'll compile and run.
The Mac already has something better. Konfabulator

By 'Reliable', I assume you mean heavily slanted to the left.
Not Pretty.
There is no 'Big Picture' to most music traders. There is only the small picture of what they want for free.
Pick systems were a database, an OS, and a programming language, all in one. It was a very cool system to work in.
