I remember a few years ago there was a 20/20 or dateline or something like that special on whether or not there is a link to brain tumors and cell phone usage.
They did talk to one woman and they showed her brain scans - she had a tumor in her brain that was in the exact size of her cell phone antenna and was in the exact same position on her head where she held her cell phone. Now perhaps she was more prone to getting a tumor then most people or maybe she used her cell phone constantly or had an antenna that put out 5x the normal power - I don't know but it did leave an impression on me.
Yes Gravity is an easily observable phenomenon - but when you scientists refer to the "theory of gravity" what that really means to those in the scientific community is the equations that explain how gravity works. They all agree that it works - but there are a number of "theories" to explain HOW it works.
There was newtons "Law of Gravity" which came first - F = G(m_1 m_2}/r^2)
where:
* F is the magnitude of the gravitational force between the two point masses,
* G is the gravitational constant,
* m1 is the mass of the first point mass,
* m2 is the mass of the second point mass,
* r is the distance between the two point masses.
Now if you use this calculation is it true 100% of the time in all observable cases? What we found out, was no, it doesn't. For example Newton's theory does not fully explain the precession of the perihelion of the orbit of the planets, especially of planet Mercury. There is a 43 arcsecond per century discrepancy between the Newtonian prediction, which arises only from the gravitational tugs of the other planets, and the observed precession.
When Einstein came along and said e=mc^2, his equation on relativity showed that while Newtons "law" was very close it was off by just a little bit and Einstein's equation with Newton's gets us closer.
So yes, everyone knows gravity exists and is a force - but try coming up with an equation or "theory" that explains it 100% of the time in all cases.
I actually prefer not to move and would rather stick with one good job with a good company for a long time and I think I have finally found one.
Last time I looked for a job and was leaving my previous company for a multitude of reasons, which was about 4 months ago, I had about 8 interviews within a two month period and recieved 3 offers and I took the one that I believed to be the best.
CV is latin for Curriculae Vitae which as someone else noted means "course of life" and it is a bit of a misnomer to use "CV" as a resume as traditionally a CV actually includes everything related to your "life" - thus "course of life" - a true CV would be more a of a large binder with many many pages - a portfolio if you will - of anything and everything you have accomplished and achieved in your life whereas a resume is usually just a one page condensed version of anything relevant to the job you are trying to acquire.
I actually have something that is closer to a true CV - a portfolio that is about 25 pages of material of all my IT experience, education, major projects, contacts, letters of recommendation, etc. When I apply for a job I send them my resume but if I get called for an interview I bring in my portfolio and use it during the interview - it often has a very large positive impact.
Initial conditions for all wirless routers should be:
1. Must be WIRED in to bring up the config page 2. Remote administration turned OFF 3. Default password set to some random sequence of numbers printed in the documentation or the routers serial number 4. Immediately upon first log in you are required to change the password
Ive always like cayman (aka netopia) routers because on their wired (as in no wireless) dsl routers they actually meet the first 3 conditions above, although from what Ive read they are just as bad with security on their wireless products as everyone else.
But then again Ive never had any need to set up my own wireless connection..
"To believe that you do not need encryption is the same thing as thinking you can hook a windows computer to the Internet without virus protection and never be infected"
I disagree. I have two windows computers that I regularly hook up to the internet and neither of them have virus protection and they are both virus and malware free. Just have to be smart about what you do, where you go, what you download - oh and having a good firewall/router.
It's very true that we in western society (ESPECIALLY in USA) have a very ageist culture in which the old are looked down at all the time. We are such a youth obsessed culture it's practically sickening. You don't see this in other cultures. We are so obsessed with being young, thin, pretty, etc. that it's taking a huge toll on our society as a whole.
Whatever happened to the beauty of aging? Wrinkles and lines ARE beautiful - gray and silvery hair IS pretty!
If you are a woman you don't have to have a pencil figure to be look good or be attractive.
And not everyone who is "fat" is so because they eat a lot - there are lots of LEGITIMATE reasons for being overweight and lots of "overweight" people are way more healthier than skinny people.
Google cushings - my gf has it and it is the reason she is overweight and it is just a hard to diagnose and often misdiagnosed condition that I bet lots of overweight people have it and take other unneccarry and really stupid steps to try to solve their condition - like getting their stomach stapled or having gastric bypass - both of which to be shown to be horrible, horrible things to do!
I have to pipe in here about the fallacy of the irish potato "famine" and the rewriting of history by the English - even if it is off topic a bit.
There was no "famine" in the true sense in Ireland. Read the REAL history.
This is what happened -
At that time in Ireland there were actually many many different crops still being grown, sheep and cattle were being raised. There was lots of food to go around - even plenty of it. What was going on was that the English - being the great oppressers that they were (and still are) at the time were harvesting all this food and shipping it via protected and secure means to their own tables. The only food they did not cart off for themselves was the potatoes. They basically stole all the other food that was being produced at the time for themselves - leaving the irish with nothing to eat but potatoes.
So yes a blight did hit the potatoe and many people starved.. but it wasn't for lack of enough food being produced.
Plus in this day and age if you did yell Fire in a theater - even if it actually was on fire - people would probably just shush you and go back to watching the movie..
In Moses Lake, WA the did a huge fiber build out there a while ago for the entire County.
My friend, who lives in Ephrata, has a FIOS connection out there. He has Fiber to his HOUSE! AND they now have 3 companies that provide regular telivision via this Fiber connection. I tested up/down speeds when I was there and he can get like 30-40MB/sec both UP and DOWN.
Also, as far as crappy ISP's with their upload and download BS - I used to have an SDSL connection with Speakeasy (best ISP in the US at the time - and they still might be) - that was 768/768 - and it was only $150/mo. Now that's is not terribly fast, but it was 5 years ago too. They still offer SDSL service at least up to T1 speeds (1.5/1.5) and its WAAAY cheaper than T1. At the time they also didn't care what I did with my connection as long as I didnt inerfere wiht other people's stuff. The reason I got it was so I could have a cheap way of running my own web and dns server - which I did. I had 4 static IP's with the service and had my own OpenBSD web server and OpenBSD DNS server.
Also with the SDSL I got an 80% throughput guarantee, although I never it saw it drop below 95% on my metrics. Of course it helped that they are actually a Tier 1 provider - unlike most ISPs.
You can find some quality ISPs out there who will let you get SDSL and run your own servers and do whatever the hell else you want. Check out Speakeasy.
Why don't they use this guys suit - it's already built and even tested!

You're forgetting one of the other Grandmasters of that era - Silverburg.

"This is basically a Turing test for humans."
Screw the turing test for humans - how can I implement a gom jabbar test for humans over the net?
So now that you posted that all the telemarketers out there will just press "zero" as soon as they detect the asterisk program.
So how is this supposed to help against those telemarketers?
Instead of just "zero" it should be a configurable 4 digit access code or something.

Wheres the whoosh mod?
Watch the Documentary from Discovery channel titled "I am my own Twin"
This happens naturally in lots of people.
It even touches on the subject of pigmentation - where babies of interracial couples are born with "checkberboard" skin.
