That's true! I just looked at yahoo.com for the first time in several years, and it's hopeless. Unbelievably bad. There is absolutely zero value in that declining portal with its huge overhead. Maybe Flickr is worth something -- it used to be -- if they haven't screwed it up beyond recognition.
This paper is far from established science. It is contrary to the IPCC's and other accepted climate models, without providing the physics to back it up. The strong opinionation, right or wrong, do not belong in a research paper: "There is a possibility, a real danger, that we will hand young people and future generations a climate system that is practically out of their control. We conclude that the message our climate science delivers to society, policymakers, and the public alike is this: we have a global emergency. Fossil fuel CO2 emissions should be reduced as rapidly as practical."
It all depends on how you ask the question. You can get more than half of poll respondees to answer either way. Incidentally, they assume (or, rather, they want us to assume) that the small number of people they asked were representative of the entire nation.
Maybe their activities lasted a little longer than 2008:
"Just last year, Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson downplayed the validity of climate models and the value of renewable energy policies."
I consider Mauna Kea sacred ground that should be used only for telescopic exploration of the heavens. How can these heretics deny me my constitutional right of freedom of religion? Thomas Jefferson had a telescope, and it was obviously his intent when he wrote the First Amendment that people should be free to practice telescopy in sacred places such as Mauna Kea.
Correct. When a company reaches a certain size (along with its management egos), there is typically a transition from customer satisfaction to customer behavior alteration.
1. There have been pop culture articles invading Slashdot, probably to generate clicks. This throws away Slasdot's competitive advantage. Don't dilute the good stuff and become CNN or Huffpost. It will never work.
2. If I have something to say, I can often type it in time to get a stupid "slow down cowboy" message. Time between posts is a reasonable limit. But "time to type a post" is counterproductive, ignorant, sexist, racist, and fattening.
3. Did I mention you should lose the off-topic articles?
Slashdot has followed many internet companies in sacrificing efficient transfer of information in favor of superficial looks and clickbait. While not as bad as many sites, it is definitely a problem.
One example is that in nested comments, the lines along the left side that show the nest level of the comments were pulled from Slashdot. There many other issues with the "new and improved" Slashdot. I'd be glad to elaborate, but I expect it would be a waste of time.
uBlock Origin is roughly 12 times better than Adblock Plus. It's significantly faster, has less overhead, has a better user interface, and does not whitelist ad sites.
Maybe they can do much more good without jumping through the bureaucratic hoops. It's their money. Why do they need to account to Linsey McGoey for the way they spend it?
This should come as no surprise. A few days ago, TransCanada requested a delay in approval because the low price of oil has made the pipeline construction less appealing. This reduced opposition to, and so political cost of, Obama's decision.

Oklahoma earthquakes are abotu as much a security threat as Oklahoma drivers. How much sensationalization and overreaction can people tolerate?
Oklahoma Earthquakes are caused by wastewater injection wells, which are in need of regulation. Since the U.S. Congress are a bunch of weenies and won't pass anything rational, and since the Oklahoma government is largely owned by Oil and Gas, there won't be much done to resolve this until there is an expensive earthquake. It's not rocket science.

I wonder what brought that on.

Look for a reversal reversal as soon as the uproar dies down a bit.

Thirty years ago I was sure that Windows would never make it because it was so slow and cumbersome. [add slow and cumbersome jokes here.]

Excellent work, Slashdot.
I didn't get an invitation to join the task force. Must be in my spam folder.
