How am I supposed to watch the animation if it comes only on quicktime??? And more important, why is Slashdot linking to a site that does not support a linux friendly page? uhg!
The Patent King. He has a staggering 558 patents, costing companies around the world some $1.5 billion in licensing fees. But what did Jerome Lemelson actually invent?
Maybe you should read about the Patent King

This guy just went around and patented anything he could think of and get a patent on... guess what? He made more than a billion dollars by suing companies and NEVER manufacturing anything.
You might wanna read R. Cringely's report on Starband.
"If you configure the Starband system with a Windows PC, then switch to the router the moment the
installer's truck has disappeared down the street, it will allow you to have a network without any
Windows PCs. Mac zealots like that. It works just fine with Linux, too. I have a very mixed network with
two Windows boxes, two Linux boxes, two Macs, and a Windows notebook. The Macs and the Windows
notebook are connected through an 802.11 wireless connection provided by an Apple Airport. This, too, is
something the Starband docs say can't be done. I love reading statements like that as I'm web surfing in
bed, 100 plus feet from the Starband modem."
DSL companies cannot survive thanks to Congress, that gave the Baby Bells a virtual monopoly and it's not enforcing the laws for equal access.
While the most influencial companies keep getting bigger and killing off the competition with the support of OUR elected officials, we, the users are the ones paying the price.
Now how is this post a troll? I think it is very funny, and funny is neither a troll nor offtopic. Moderators, read the guidelines before scoring. Attempts at humor ARE encouraged.
Actually they lost $600,000.- or less than 1C a share, which for Wall Street is the same as breaking even.
The important fact on Red Hat is that they are NOT burning cash, and they have a healty amount in the bank. So, they are well positioned to come ahead through a recession. You will be surprised to know how many big corporations are actually in deep debt, and with a receding economy, big names could go under (or get bought).
Red Hat to me, has a great chance to survive and prosper during the next boom.
I can go to comp USA and buy 500 copies of MS Windows and shove
one into every 500lb bag of manure I sell.
Please don't do that. The manure industry has a bad enough reputation as it is.
Yeah but it would give MS Windows the correct kind of smell.
Because, believe it or not, tax dollars actually come back to citizens in the form
of services. The more socialist the system, the better off the poor are, and the
worse off the rich.
Except that those goverment services are usually very inefficient, bourocratic and sometimes corrupt. A much better way to re-distribute the generated wealth of a country would be for that country to pay dividends to his taxpayers.
If you think of it, the wealth of a country is not produced by rich people (who pay higher taxes), nor by corporations (who usually do not pay much taxes), nor by poor people, nor by the middle class; but by them all as a whole. And nobody can argue that the working poor are lazier or make less of an effort than the CEO of a rich corporation. So the best way to benefit the poor would be trough a divided payable to every taxpayer regardless of income.
Then yes, higher taxes would benefit the poor and the services in a country could be run by private entrerprise in an efficient manner.
All you'd be left with is sucky garage bands who do it for the fun of it.
Uh, gimme a break, right now all we are left with is really sucky bands made up by promoters and the media, with mediocre talent at best. Most of the music that gets played on radio is just hype from the industry.
I doubt the RIAA will go bankrupt anytime soon but the suckers should learn that all the music should be offered to everybody, and start charging a fair amount for the songs. A simple download site with all the copyrighted music for a small fee will rake in more money than all the expensive CD's combined.
How about the money problem a strange new disease could bring? My point is, we will have more of this kind of objects coming back to earth in the future, and one day we could pay for being so careless.
I think this makes for a very dangerous precedent. I am talking about all the mutant microbs and bacteria that Mir was carrying.
Who knows what survived the plunge into the ocean, or even went foating on earth's atmosphere?
They should have boost it out into the sun or empty space; but of course, that would've cost a lot more money, and as always, money is king in this world. Who cares about a healthy environment when we can save a buck.
And I live in Miami, but I'll like other places in the US to be as progressive and cutting edge... oh well, I would move if it wasn't that I like it here.
But thinking a little more about it, I could sell this formula to FOX and let them air a whole program showing how 1 equals 2. Their ratings will shoot to the roof and everybody will be really happy, specially if they air it around april 15, tax time;-)

Actually it is called the "Thining the herd" award. It will be duly posted on News of the Weird, with honorable mention. :-)

It makes a clear case for a PC.
Get it? >-)
Yeah, and maybe that's why your (more) reputable company just won't make as much money as those porn guys make. ;-p
Is this another apri's fool joke? huh
Are you sure you want to trust an .exe file coming from Russia? Hmmmmmm

er, mr writer,
Indecision 2000 was able to (in a humerous way)...
So, "humerous" means some kind of Homer humor?
No no no, the best of 'em all is Bill Maher.
He invites republican guests to his Politically Incorrect show only to poke fun at them, and regularly insults "environmental" president Bush.
Somebody mod this down. -1, Overrated.
Haha good one!
