There are two leading explanations for why it was called the God particle:
1) It will explain how the universe was created (or at least bring us significantly closer), from a scientific standpoint. Finding it will not disprove the existence of a deity, nor will not finding it prove the existence of one.
2) It was nick-named that as a tongue-in-cheek 'We think this particle is everywhere but nobody has actually seen it.' (this came from an earlier Slashdot article, you can look it up for yourself later)
I had a hard time getting engaged in the game past the first month (though I might go back now that they've fixed a lot of issues), but it was at least fun taking in a new world and playstyle, even for just a month.
I'd be less worried about the 35 GB (which is worth about $5 today, and is returned upon installation) than the $50 spent on the game -- but then again, I've paid more for less before, so I don't really count it for loss.
If they run the story before there's a good source, they get blasted for running speculation instead of news. If they run the story when there's good speculation, someone will inevitably post "Digg had it first!"
Sometimes, it's really damned if you do, damned if you don't for the editors.
Wish I had an answer, but some people who have thought this was a conspiracy that marked you as an enemy of the state tried to allege that in court. You can guess the outcome. This makes for a short, interesting read, with some of the court cases listed:
I'm a part of the beta right now, as well as a few friends and guildmates. Sure, there are bugs now given that it's beta, and I don't expect it to be bug-free at release, but... given how many fundamental things are broken right now (continents crashing regularly, critical talents for some class builds not working, etc), I wonder how they plan to have this out in less than two months.
Then again, I'm a sucker, so I'll be buying it anyway.
What is the root and history of the word 'pedantic'? Paidagogos, from Greek (paidos = child + agogos = leader), implied either a harsh schoolteacher, or a slave who escorted a child to school and generally watched over his education in a strict fashion. This later translated to Latin as paedagogus, and then French as pedagogue, where implications meant strict learning, down to correcting the most minor details. To the point, pedantic Is, of course, of (or like) a pedagogue.....not to be pedantic or anything.
Millions of people waste their lives away on TV, celebrity gossip, World of Warcraft, and all you can say is that a man who spend his life doing something intellectual and in advancement of engineering should be out solving world hunger and curing cancer?
Someone needs to know that links are better than just a summary. You must be new here. Once you get used to your stay, you won't notice if there's a link, or fifty links, or no link.
I posted this elsewhere, but I guess I'll have to reiterate... I didn't mean to say the other side was true, but to play devil's advocate. I'm not saying that one is worse than the other, because I have no idea, but I'm definitely not about to cast a decision. You're right.... I don't think ANYONE is qualified to make that decision, though I have nothing against discussion about it.
I apologize if it seemed like I was saying rape was worse than murder... I was merely playing devils advocate. I'm not judging, just pointing out a situation that shows not everyone agrees with what you had initially said.
Despite enough notable cases of women killing themselves after being raped? They obviously felt it was better to die than deal with that hanging over them. Have you had either a rape or a murder attempt against you? Otherwise, who are you to judge that?
"Just curious, but how can some of you so callously be willing to deprive someone of the rights that so many people fought and died for? Because he was causing a scene? Big deal, its his right."
Then go to the airport and shout "BOMB!" After all, it's your right to cause a scene.
At the bottom of a bottle of whisky.

I'm more worried about my phone trying to direct me into following that "set of cars" that just whizzed by at 80+ MPH.... on a train track.

Now that I've read that one, can you send the link for getting rid of mental images?
How could I read the "Yes" if it happens???
Well, there's an RSS feed; maybe it'll switch to "almost" just before we're all consumed!
UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown-shirt just came in his pants on hearing this development.

I vote for jiffy -- 'cause now you'll be able to get your wireless data in a jiffy!
And this comment on parents seems all the more relevant now....
Only a little; a wise man once said, CmdrTaco could post, and that would be a legitimate reply :)

That's just to the EFF, here is the actual article in question.
