We don't have to save the world. The world is big enough to look after itself. What we have to be concerned about is whether or not the world we live in will be capable of sustaining us in it.
-- Douglas Adams, Speech at The University of California
"If your marriage can't sustain a few months without sex, you're too selfish to be married."
I agree if it's an occasional few months because of circumstances beyond your control. But I think that Lumpy was talking about women who like sex a lot less than you and an ensuing lifetime of sexual unsatisfaction. That would be a bad thing that could have been avoided.
There are so many people in their fifties who are ruining their health trying to keep up with the ever-increasing productivity demands of their employers.
Saving up to be able to bail out when it's getting too much is a great idea. Life is finite and there's more to it than work...
At least a one year warranty would suffice instead of the customary 90 or 60 days you get now. Think about it. I'm spending almost $1000 for a digital camera!!! How insane is that?
In Belgium the law of 1 September 2004 on consumer protection imposes a mandatory (ie free) two year warranty for consumer goods. It is said to be an implementation of a European directive, so similar rules may be in effect in other European countries.
Maybe you guys should suggestion it to your congressmen?
So this is a machine similar to the Dell XPS M170, except that it has a desktop processor instead of a Pentium-M with a second-generation Centrino chipset.
Therefore the WidowPC prolly runs a lot hotter and louder than the Dell.

It's funny how life extention still seems to be a taboo with slashdot posters.
Well if you don't want to live long, then don't. We won't miss you.;-)
About people like Kurzweil: people who pretend to know what the future will be like may or may not be kooks, but IMHO their function is not to tell us what the future will really be like, but to inspire us and make us dream about the future so we may actually work towards making it better.
I have no idea what I'm talking about, but if it would turn out that there's no solution to solve this problem in the courts, maybe some of the major companies using these technologies could organize a takeover of Forgent, dissolve it and put it all in the public domain?
The multifunction cellphones that will be available in a couple of years are sure to make my gadgetbag a lot lighter. I can't wait!
Todays mobile phone cams do blow, but the quality achieved by very small cameras like the Canon Ixus I (Powershot 10) is impressive and getting better. And because miniaturisation is happening continually, adding a lot of functions to a device doesn't necessarily make it bulkier... This Ixus could grow into a phone/pda/mp3player adding just a couple of chips to it (the battery and the display are already there so turning it into a phone wouldn't add much bulk to it)
A phone won't replace my D70 soon, but I'm convinced that in a couple of years my D70 will remain on the shelf most of the time because my phone will be good enough for 90% of my photography needs.
Gmail is nice. But I'm not going to switch as I'm extremely happy with http://fastmail.fm
Spam filtering, virus-protection, use your own domain name in your from-address, different personalities, file storage, a very powerful and fast webinterface, accessible by IMAP, POP3 etc, mail forwarding, rules, fetch mail from other accounts - even from Hotmail, an addressbook with lists, etc.
The only downside is that features and quotas vary depending on whether you are a free user, a member, full member, etc. But hey, maybe that's why they're still around.
I would never have thought that I'd be willing to pay for an e-mail account. But Fastmail is so great that I pay my yearly fee with a big smile.
As someone who had his car burglarised last night and his favorite cd's stolen, I am definitely in favor of legislation that allows us to make backup copies of audio cd's. Should've use copies in my car. Dang.:-(

Talking about geekery: Today 25 May is Towel Day! How come there's no article up about that?
I once signed up for the e-mail address administrator@... with a large telco. "Administrator" is a default Microsoft Exchange mailbox.
I did get some funny mail from time to time and also the output of some antivirus-program with default notification settings.

'Nuff said.
Soon you'll be able to order them online and have them sent to your country. And if official resellers wouldn't want to do it, there's always eBay. :-)

How much hours of sleep do you get each night?
Do you always go to bed around the same time?
I'm suspecting that these things may also be important to avoid premature aging.
Ahh. Time travel! There's nothing quite like it!
Very important: they should put a huge disclaimer on the first page about voiding warranties, stuff blowing up, no guarantees, etc.
Sorry couldn't resist :-)
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. :-)

Much in the same way smashing your PC to pieces with a hammer solves your Windows problems.
I would prefer a less destructive solution.
Looks pretty impressive!
The way the Israeli government is acting these days, they're likely to get one hell of a lot of thunder real soon now, and it won't be from Google. ;-)
I say, send Bush! :-)
