Maybe you should realise that driving is a PRIVILIGE and not a RIGHT?
You are supposed to follow the rules of the road at ALL times, not just when you think the police are about.
An automated system for traffic is going to wind up being much safer in the long run for everyone on the road, which are "public" anyways so you should have little expectation of privacy on one.
And how long do you think it will take them to jack the price of the "refills" sky-high...
You know, like printer ink and razor blade cartridges?
Lets not give the megacorps yet another "disposable" item they can soak us for... besides, wouldn't it suck if your monitor suddenly "died" at 7pm on a Saturday night or something. Good luck finding a "refill" for it.
To really appreciate Deep Space Nine you have to watch the entire series in order. Some of the episodes, especially towards the end, don't make much sense on their own if you don't know the backstory.
Personally, after having watched the entire series in order, it is one of my favourite Treks.
I think Enterprise is coming into it's own and I am happy to hear it is going to get at least one more season. After all, The Next Generation took a few seasons to really get going as well.;)
I don't think it's Miranda that's doing it, but rather Windows XP itself, Miranda simply calls the window translucency API's. I could be wrong, but that would make the most sense to me.:)
I, too use Mirand and love it, though I have the contact list at 100% in the foreground, and it fades away after 3 seconds of non-use.:)
Yes, we do, but we do NOT use metric paper sizes up here by default, which was the point of the article.
I was introduced to metric paper when I lived in the UK for four years, and I do have to say that the ability to scale up/down evenly is quite a nifty feature of the system.
All the people below going into details on number systems are correct, the computer uses 1024 bytes to a Gig, while the HDD makers use 1000 bytes.
However, this has not always been the way it's worked... at one time the HDD makers also used 1024 until someone figured out that by using 1000 it made their drives look bigger.
There is no other reason I can think of why they would make such a switch. I mean, why the hell would you want to sell a product that claims to be one thing, but when it's actually used is another?!
You try explaining the whole "Gigabyte vs. Gibibyte" thing to someone who isn't computer literate and watch their eyes glaze over while they wonder why their new 80 Gig drive really isn't.
Personally, I think the HDD makers should be forced to list their drive sizes as they will be reported by the devices they're plugged into, otherwise isn't it misleading?!
Someone mod up the parent as this is exactly how you do security in IE.
Set the "Internet" Zone to the maximum security level there is, thus the default for any unknown site is lockdown.
Set the "Trusted" Zone to allow Javascript, ActiveX, whatever else you want. Then add sites you visit that you TRUST to the Trusted zone and all is good.
I also use the "Restricted" Zone as well, basically it's close to the Trusted zone but with JavaScript and ActiveX disabled, but with cookies and such enabled.
"The explicit material allegedly was found last fall after Thiemann requested additional disk space on a school-owned computer at the office in his Harvard-owned residence, the Boston Globe reported, citing unidentified sources. Thiemann allegedly asked the computer department to transfer the images to the new disk drive. The material was not child pornography or illegal in any other way, the sources said, Thiemann did not comment, the newspaper reported."
So, doesn't look like he was busted for kiddy porn at all, just "normal" porn.
You can buy Memory Sticks in 256mb and higer sizes without having to "bank switch" them.
I just did a bit of Googling and it appears you purchaced a Memory Stick with Memory Select. This feature is essentially as you describe; two 128mb sticks in one package with a switch.
Perhaps you should take it back to the store and ask for an exchange for a full 256mb stick?
" If tomorrow, the world stopped giving a shit about baseball, baseball players wouldn't make money."
It's a pity the world didn't actually wake up and realise that spending MILLIOS of dollars just to pay people to play A GAME instead of putting that money into things like social programs or education is insanity at best...
Ah well, maybe one day, but I'm not holding my breath, and yes I am feeling a bit cynical, and no I don't care about sports much at all.;)
You know, this is the exact same reason I took back the MemoryStick Walkman I purchaced a few years back while working in the US.
The software was a DRM nightmare, plus bugs which seemed to randomly eat your checkins, also if you erased the MemoryStick the songs were on you could never check them back in. Ever.
I looked for hacks at the time to get my MP3's on the device as indicated on the box... but the small print did indicate the MP3's would be "converted". Converted into Sony's proprietary DRM format, sigh.
I was more dissapointed with the software then the hardware, as the player itself was very sleek and sounded fantastic with the Fontopia headphones.
Ah well, eventually I got a MiniDisc player, and then later an MP3 Nomad Jukebox, I will probably get an iPod one day.:)
Just a note, but the season finale ending was exactly the same as it would of been had they gone on to shoot season five.
The even left the "To Be Continued" part on the end despite the fact that Sci-Fi cancelled the show.
Personally, I am very happy they are going to at least finish the story. After watching 88 episodes I would really like to know how it all ends.:)
If there is enough interest, who knows, maybe it will make a comeback. Either as another miniseries, or as a full- or half-season.
Lets just hope the production quality of this miniseries meets or exceeds the quality of the previous four seasons. It would be a shame if they cut corners now and made it less then it could of been.:)
Just a couple notes the Memory Stick technology isn't "proprietary". It was developed by a consortium of companies, one of which was Sony, and who was also the first to come out with physical Memory Stick media. There are now other companies selling Memory Stick media as well, and they are fully compatible, and even carry the Memory Stick logo and all.
As for the "Magic Gate" claim, if I look closely at the picture from the article the logo looks like a normal Memory Stick logo to me. I do not see any extra indication of the Magic Gate DRM.
Well, as others here have mentioned either this is a hoax (which I doubt) or the person who wrote this memo isn't terribly familiar with either spelling or a keyboard, maybe both.:}
I have *two* keyboards that I've not only worn the letters off the keys, but have actually worn a HOLE into the left shift key on one and am almost through on the other one.;)
Yes it's time for a new keyboard, but I am waiting 'till I get my next system to do that as I'm switching to OS X.:)

Both Windows 2000 and Windows XP have the ability to set a window to be translucent on a percentage scale.
There are a ton of freeware utilities to control this new ability on legacy applications.
From what I can tell Miranda is using these API's as it is conditionally defining the appropriate consts in the Win32.h file in the CVS tree.
I don't think it's Miranda that's doing it, but rather Windows XP itself, Miranda simply calls the window translucency API's. I could be wrong, but that would make the most sense to me. :)

Actually, you mean Martin Freeman, who played Tim on The Office. :)
Alrighty, I was just trying to point out the fact that the news article /you/ linked to refutes your own point.
:)
Do you happen to have any links to articles that agree with your statement?

Oh my, that actually made me laugh out loud...
But wait, there's more... for a limited time you can get this new
Yes, but the person who sued McD's and won actually lost as the case was overturned on appeal.
:}
I guess the appelate judge wasn't asleep on the bench like the previous judge.
Did you actually read the artice you linked to?

Funny, there seemed to be more grammatical and spelling errors in the original memo then in ESR's comments.
;)
Remember, the memo is written in red and black, with ESR's comments in green.

Hmm, yes I guess you are right. I misread part of the statement and got a bit too detailed. :)
I think you forgot two other types of people:
c) People who have already bought a copy of a Microsoft OS and don't want to pay the "Microsoft Tax" yet again.
d) People who never pay the "Microsoft Tax" and install an illegally copied version of Windows.
What, are you on Mars personally overseeing the Rovers or something?! :}
Because as far as Joe Q. Public is concerned the bigger the number the better the product.
9200 > 9000, therefore it must be better.
