Always ask any kilt wearing Scotsmen you see, "Is anything worn under the kilt?" Laughing, they will give the classic replay, "No, It's all in perfect working order." Remember to shout across the Whispering Gallery in St Paul's Cathedral. The name is historical and fools many tourists into missing the exciting results.

Surely the real question is: How many of the people who are using pirated copies would pay for a copy if the pirated copies were not available?

This is the RIAA fallacy, presuming that all pirated copies represent lost revenue.

Isn't this well known? I've seen TV documentaries with computer animations showing the difference between a crowd at an exit and a crowd at a partially blocked exit. Against intuition, the partially blocked exit allows more people to escape in a given time.

This is a DOS on the security services and explains why despite much propaganda automatic face recognition systems are not in use.

  13. Re:Of Course on Jammie Thomas To Appeal $1.9 Million RIAA Verdict · · Score: 5, Insightful

And when did deterrents ever stop murders or kids making copies of songs for their friends?

The big fines were intended to make professional copyright violations where some factory turns out hundreds or thousands of copies of fake product unprofitable. Using the same law to beat up some random person is disproportionate.
