    Hey everyone, I got a good idea to get some cool guns -- So, if you are a cop - then you can have and shoot lots of different guns all the time, with ammo like chocolate, nails, microwaves, infrared, bullets, bigger bullets, toxic and noxious gases and loads of harmful electrical overdose inducing ammo without needing to care if you are dominating and harming people (people are just targets to shoot) as you can become numb to emotional reactions to your actions.. pretty cool job because everyone who isn't in on this cool business strategy, will hate you but cant express it in a meaningful way that can make you stop hurting them - sweet eh? - plus, since you could be legally immune to retaliation or investigation, Did you know that the police department doesn't have an Internal Affairs division to make sure you aren't abusing your victims? A bird told me this, so its probably not true as birds cant talk because I always shoot them with my cool guns. Anyways they weren't really important. Stupid fucking birds poop on cars and so we should get rid of em. - I think they were all laid off -- anyways, where was I -- oh yeah anyways,,, you can do anything you want with your guns to anyone you want and never worry if you will be held accountable for anything, cant be sued, cant be prosecuted, being completely above the law, FYI since I am explaining to you guys this cool way to have lots of cool guns, the tool that gets you the money and shit is called the law. The law is a cool and really really really loaded book of pedantic and very petty rules you can use as excuses/reasons (call it what you like they are the same thing) to exert robbery and kidnappings or can even give you the right excuse for lethal force if something a victim is doing sorta matches something in the law book you get to use for this method of income redistribution and paternal lordship - Into BDSM? Like to be a Dom? This book gives you so many more options to role play with than that cheezy hippe book called kama surta - The Law. Remember it, its the way you win on the force. So back to guns, Its so its cool to be reckless and murderous as following orders is completely indifferent to the "morals" and objections of you live targets - all because its the only thing that matters when you have cool guns and supreme authority -- its all about getting a thrill because people hate it and its pure evil and nothing can stop you. Schadenfreude! Some German word that sounds like a German getting shot by a sawed off mossburg or a blond guy or a fat guy with a buzz cut shooting someone identified as a suspect with a wallet because someone said they shoplifted some bread and probably you should intervene with you gun or ram that fucker with your car (don't worry, you can get a replacement car in tip top shape with the tank filled up and facebook or liveleaks waiting on your new replacement lappy that's attached to your dash tomorrow for free - ram away! you are covered!) and tackle them and then beat them for that.
    But. if you have empathy and it holds you back from this great opportunity, then you could be unfortunate enough to miss a payment and your car that you have to pay for on your own may not smog and someone can attack you and you can say... i mean if you are stupid and dont have money, you can say "stop hurting me!" and someone with the Law Book authority will still be legally allowed to rob you.. so dont be a civilian, they dont have free cars and guns like the cops do - lame eh? I tried the aero like compiz themes and found they just didn't come close to the same clean finish.

    as far as the list of apps I install above, those are what i recommend, just for the basic OS, if it were a typical linux package list it would be a lot bigger, either way, I wanted to give the moron I was commenting to a list of the apps you could use that wouldnt bloat up or slow the OS down, but still give you all you really needed to get essental common tasks done with the least amount of bloat.

    i especially love how if you have compiz enabled in gnome, then switch to mkde, you hose your kkde desktop effects.

    compiz on top of xorg on top of gnome and kde = crufty yuck with boatloads of conflicts and half finished configs that arent 100% working\

    actually very reminiscent of windowblinds running on XP, win2k, basically artistically and graphically in the same era as XP -- 2001 -- that was a while ago.

    if they could integrate the stuff better and not have it be such a ragtag set of hokey individually maintained parts that barely mesh together then you would have something, but it just runs OK if you get the right magic recipe of packages and configs in the right dependencies then that is good enough for Linux, just not me, i like to get work done without futzing with that.

    Actually it is you who doesn't know what they are talking about. Windows 7 is a great OS that runs excellently with 2GB of ram and a decent older processor like a Pentium D. You dont have to disable services or any of the other bullshit you are saying. Everything is snappy, and if you have any issues, you know it is hardware related. (usually bad power supply, or ram)
    Oh and by the way, drivers are automatically downloaded upon detection of hardware that the OS didnt originally have drivers packaged for. (ubuntu is trying this with its WIFI and vid card drivers, but it isnt as good)

    Also, yeah if you install a modern OS it has graphical goodies, and it has effects. In the case of Windows or OSX these are actually improvements and make things easier on the eyes and more snappy, seamless and natural. Aero requires a video card to run, and last time I checked I could buy a pci express Asus+Nvidia Geforce 220 video card (no fan needed) for 40 bucks.
    After that, you have a clean looking desktop (don't forget to disable desktop icons from showing and pick a nice background) that trumps OSX as far as functionality and vairiety of tweakable settings, and looks 10 years better than any KDE, Gnome or LXDE desktop can. If your in 2011 and you still like the 2D blocky 16 bit gnome2 or windows 95 look, then I guess there is no use explaining to you. Go ahead and FUD the improvements that M$ has made... you just end up sounding like an "numpty" old twat.
    Oh and if you need a virus./malware checker I'm sure you will be beside yourself to know that microsoft now produces the best free and very very LIGHTWEIGHT antivirus/antimalware solution on windows platforms called MSE and you dont need any bloated crap like AVG Norton Adaware etc etc running. My advice to you is to get some knowledge of what to run when installing windows 7 and continue to enjoy using slashdot to spread fud about it.... just know this... you look like an idiot to anyone who has to tend 200 + computers and users with Ubuntu, OpenSUSE CentOS and WIndows 7 on them all day.

    Cheers

    Windows 7 Base OS install recipe I use when revamping people's OLD computers:
    Buy 2GB RAM if there is only 1GB
    Always install Windows with the latest service pack integrated with the installation to avoid having to do a lot of updates.
    (saves time)
    Install:
    Firefox (with adblock plus, flashblock)
    Thunderbird
    Adobe Flash
    Adobe Reader
    MSE (antivirus/antimalware)
    OpenOffice/Office 2010 (take your pick$)
    Winamp (I love the "modern" skin - this has always been the best music player - it is a little stereo that plays music files)
    Kazaa Lite Codec pack (comes with media player classic, the best lightweight video player (yes I dont really care for VLC)
    DaemonTools Lite (only if your a BAD EVIL PIRATE)
    Filezilla for FTP
    Nero 8 Lite (google: "index of" nero 8 lite )
    WinSCP (for xfer to/from linux)
    WinRAR corporate edition (google: "index of" winrar corp )
    Paint.NET (better than photoshop or GIMP)
    uTorrent (only if your a BAD EVIL PIRATE)

It is a kluge to be recognized for what it is, a toolbox of shoddy but working rugged tools that were home crafted by academics and software devs to correct some issue or to improve a design flaw or add some awkward new ability to the tools you have now, by use of esoteric conditional band aids and command line hacks.

    Here are a few things I have to give as examples by the way of anecdotal observation. I know its alot but please mod me up, I have taken time to write something controversial, interesting and informative - and I have terrible karma. :-)

    LDAP is fully capable of being a customizable platform to manage accounts computers and the organizational tree of resources. it replaces NIS as the tool of choice for authentication in a production Linux environment. For those who had to roll with this drastic change, it is not trivial to convert a NIS environment to ldap, but isn't too bad for an expert in both with the right method to do it. That takes experience though. However, ldap implementations, howtos and structure all vary widely depending on who set it up, on what distro, and which version of ldap and its schema. It has a awful command line syntax to do essential tasks such as adding a user or adding a group or searching for a account or anything else. I think that major omission to the opendap project. Heres the default way:

    $ ldapmodify -r -D 'cn=foo,dc=bar,dc=com' -W /tmp/user.ldif
    ldapdelete
    Used to delete entries
    $ ldapdelete -D 'cn=foo,dc=bar,dc=com' -W 'cn=user,dc=bar,dc=com'
    ldapsearch
    Used to search ldap servers
    $ ldapsearch -L -D 'cn=foo,dc=bar,dc=com' 'objectclass=posixAccount'd

    This is a deterrent to people thinking of adopting ldap.

    To ease the pain, you can acquire ldapscripts (Google it) that is a humble project that makes setting up accounts etc less painful than using ldap add syntax. Oh yeah, you need to customize that too.
    Then you can add a user like:

    ldapadduser foo foogroup
    (enter name)
    (enter password)

    Now if you ever had to use ldap doesnt that seem like it should be a part of the openldap package?

    Then there is ldapvi which you should get because you need to be able to view the "database" and correct things, again this is tedious and user unfriendly using ldap tools that come with openldap. Oh you can set up and alias in bash, that allows you to log into your ldap using ldapvi to edit it without having to do some annoying cmd line options and the admin user DN - so more customizations need to be made to make things usable. Once you get past all the time it takes to standardize your ldap's organizational hierarchy and what the best way to classify things would be.

    Do you want auto-mounter, did you happen to notice it is hokey to set up in ldap compared to NIS? Should you have an email attribute for each user to appease web applications and mailer scripts to derive the email address for a user account? Were you insane enough to want to add the samba schema there for authentication from a samba server? It will need to rehash all your passwords (samba doesn't have the ability to auth against an ldap server without it.. needs samAccount crap, passwords rehashed.
    So add an additional attribute or two per user to add the the pile of little minutia that you need to add to the mix... to inter operate properly across disparate software implementations that need to authenticate to ldap in their own special and hokey ways. D
