  1. Re:Maybe the uncapping isn't all the FBI considers on Uncap Your Modem, Get Visit From the FBI · · Score: 1

Even with getting the latest distro, you are also limited by the servers speed. I have never used all my speed from one site, I only can max out my speed with I down load from 3 diffent servers. (I have DSL 756Kb/s down and 128 Kb/s)
even wene I run an X program over the net I use about 128 down.
I would be happy with only 128 down, but verizon does not sell that low and when I went to buy DSL I was planning on speeding about $50 a months so I don't feel like I was forced into a higher service. Because I am paying what I expected, I only got a higher speed then I need/wanted, and that is not a bad thing.

I don't think this would work well, being that WiFi is an unlicensed radio freq, the power is limited to those device and after so much of a distance you lose quality in the transition, and even if you could pump up the power you would probably will still need a beam antenna (if not a satellite dish). I am sure you could get packet radio going but then you still need to get a ham ticket.

The fact that it is not compatable with anything but the imac was one, I bought a Archos jukebox on the 20th, and the other things that got me were it was $100 cheaper ($308, this include shipping), it works on linux (also windows and mac) it has 20Gb drive in it (ya right like I realy need all that space I only have 7Gb of mp3), sure it took me 2 hours to upload all my mp3's but I don't see that as such a bad thing, I just pluged it in, issued the following command "cp -v -R /home/mpop/mp3/* /mnt/jukebox" and in 2 hours I had it fully loaded. Also the jukebox was able to read and use my play lists from xmms (and no I did not use the \ dir dilimator I use / in them, but the jukebox still understode them) So I am happy with the jukebox. And the size of it, it hight and width are just about the same size as a palm VIIx and about 1.5 as deap as the same palm VIIx (yes this is just a bit bigger then an ipod, but not to much bigger). My think that for most linux people (and maybe windows people too) the jukebox might be better.

First I don't see the big deal with this law, the goverment does have a dute to protect kids, just like in ham radio there are some things you can not talk about or evan some words you can not say. Maybe the state AG is not the best person to decide what is to be blocked. But we do have to get rid of this lowlife stuff, and for the people who say go after the people with the servers, some of the servers are out of the country and some countries this stuff is leagal, I remeber hearing that Arther C. Clarck lives in some country. So how do stop this stuff, as I see it the filters will be for sites that are out of the country, the ones in the country I am sure will be sure down by the laws that are alread on the books. Just my 2c for what ever it is worth.
