When I was in HS I had a good teacher, that would let me hack away, I still remmeber him, to bad he has passed on (the only teachers funeral that could be held on saterday and have both alumni and current studens attend)
I have so cool storys about him, when I was in 11 greade I and 2 of my friends had this thorey that he has a X-hacker (we belived he had missel codes at home, he refused to conferm or denie it)
If they do not let us know what the laws are, i can only immage what could happen. They make a law making illigal. When some one does they are forced to sign a contract that they will not let people know what the law is, and then gets fined. Ok maybe I am being parinod. But if they do not let people see the law they could pass more outraguse laws.
A movie, tv show, or book on the beginings of the borg, how did it happen, where did it first start, were there people who resisted at first or did all the people on the first planet compile not know what would happen, how did the collective get its derective. just my 2 cents.
Wow a FM, web browser ftp browser, it even lets you see the file before you have to open it, I will have to play with it more to see if I do really like it but it looks good from what I see now.
If it was not for some video games, I probably would have killed myself in high school for all the shit I had to go though. I feel good at the end of the day (of haveing coins flung at my head) to go home fire up doom 2 and bfg some things. And you don't hear about my high school in the news. On a another side note, a few of the teachers told me I should have throne a punch or to, but I never did. You know it is bad when the teacher suggest that!!
well IMHO, here my computer history, in the 80's (around 85) I had a IBM XT (boy it was loaded for it time 10MB hard drive and 448Kb ram) Then in 92 I got a 486sx 25 4Mb ram, then in 96 I got a P133 16Mb ram and then in Dec of 2000 I got this baby a P3 600 with 128Mb (which I took it to 192Mb of ram) I if I look at the last 3 systems I can say I should have this computer as my main one till 2004. An I have keeped the P133 (I have 96Mb in it now) and it servers as a file server print server and internet router. It does the job nicely.
not all inbedded systems will ever use an OS, some times (with HARD real time systems) the deadline has to be meet at all costs, and an OS would get in the way, and with some embedded systems, you don't fully need an OS, if I have a system that dose not have a hard disk, screen, keyboard, et al. maybe it would be better (in the sence of meeting the deadline) not to have an OS, maybe with soft realtime a OS is usefull but if my life depended on it, I opt for nether linux or ce. sorry to say it but that is how I view it.
I do not use use windows, I use linux, I will always have grip and the like, I can rip my CD's and I will have xmms. So I can rip my CD's and play the mp3's I make. Who cares if the windows users lose more of their rights? I also have my out and in lines, i.e. every audio player will need a out line to play the music and I have an inline and failling that I have the mic line, I can just use sox to record to a wave and then lame to encode it. I will always have mp3's for my rio. So who cares if windows users lose more rights, is that not why many of us switched to linux to regain the rights in the computer that microsoft tried to remove from us, is that not what the whole OSS movement is about, heck this could be good for the OSS community, people who want mp3's and have knowlage about computers and dont use linux/bsd/hurd/et al might find now is a good time to come on over to OSS.
I wonder if what happend when the showed of windows 98's support for USB will happen when they show of windows XP's support for FireWire. "Oh no not again!!!!"
even if MS starts to consistenly lose money, they could consevably stay bussness for a long time. The fact is that that company has more money as petty cash then some other companys total worth. Ya maybe this will make it better for people who want a chose in what OS they want pre-install. And there are so many OEM's that put such BS that it might help..
Case in point, when I got my laptop from Dell they were not selling any with Linux pre-installed, so I asked if I could get it with out a OS on it, the sellman said that by federal law they had to put a OS on the computer before it shiped. I was not to happy with that, but I made the best of it, I figured if I am going to be forced to pay for windows, I might as well get star trek armada (a windows game). I played it before and love it so my laptop is setup in to following way
/dev/hda1 = 3.5 GB windows
/dev/hda2 = extended
/dev/hda5 =.5GB swap(yes I know that is too much)
/dev/hda6 = 16GB ext2
with lilo setup for
linux * (=/dev/hda6)
games (=/dev/hda1)
Ok, You are right, but I am sure they will have it by the end of the week. At lest I hope they do. I like to see what is will look like. I have gotten everything else they have, even evolution, now that is a nice e-mail program.
I got it last night at about 7:30 it is there. go to your unsubscribe section and make sure you subscribe to Gnome 1.4 bata and then when you get to the screen after you subscribe click on install page, you will then see all the files.
I don't approve of MS, in fact I don't like them, BUT they have the legal right to charge for the software they make, just as we have the right to give what we do away free and open source.
I will go as far as to say the following (and probably be mod down for saying it): MS has done some good for the computer industry, but the fact that they are beived to be easy to use people who would not have gotten computer with out MS products do now with MS products and that does benifite us linux users because it helps keep the price of the hardware we want lower.
Also a note about a liecence aduit my university got hit with by MS, Pitt failed they had the same copy of 98 on all the CSSD (Computer Services and System Development) main office. MS could have hit them hard right then and there, but (to my supprise) they gave them 24 hours to fix it and they could go with out penalty, I thought that was an intersting note, and out of MS's caracter, and nice (ok that last word is going to hurt me)
I saw the movie and I thought it was quite good. Also what I thought was cool if you take the movie symbolically you can see M$ in there, and I like the nasty remark that they did about Bill Gates house in it. All in all I will be getting the video when it comes out. And the code on the screen is not C like Mike said, if you look at the compilation of the code you will see that the output of it is.class and to me that says Java. Also for those of you who are interested stay for the end of the credits and watch the spacial thanks, you will recognize at lest 4 names in there.
1) When I took a "history of jazz" class the professor defined music as "a dynamic aspect of culture" so how can you copyright an aspect of culture. 2) Maybe what we need for the singers/songwriters without record companies and don't want to use them is a MGPL
I like to see this happen, I am not much a SK fan but I like to see this take of so I downloaded it and have put the money in the envolope and as soon as I get a stamp it will be in the mail, I hope this dose work out. I hope it a good "book" I will probably print it up and take it to kinkos to get it bound.
What I think is trying to be said with the title is that they are companys that make tech that can be used to get "illigale" copy of copyright stuff, so google is a search engine it can be used to search for "illigale" songs, movies, software. The companys that are members of the MPAA and the like are just sue happy and if they can come up with even the stupidest resone they will use, I can imagine one of their arguments to sue google... "But you can go and search for MP3 and an artist's name and find it on google"
I think I will buy some of the "Stop the MPAA" bumper stickers for my car from 2600
That is nice to know that a comapany will be willing to go up agains the FBI to protect its costomers interests. I only hope that there are no major ramification agains them, you know how the govoment can be when it dose not get it's way. I wonder when the IRS will look to audit them
They say that they were given the disto free, huh I got my free and I did not write any articals. I sure there is more to it than the free copy of the disto, but that struck me as being funny (ok just a little bit, but still funny)
if the ads were riped out, they got their money (as you said it would be a upfront payment since mp3 would be next to imposable to track) so if the ads got ripped out it dose not effect their bottome line, the companys that bought the ads would not like it though.

Well I guess not all schools can have a mitch.

He is one of the best writers out there. I love his works. Goodby to one of the worlds greatest genius.

We all know that money makes the laws, the RIAA has more money then Napster. So who do you think will get the laws writen in their favor??
OK, so I am a bit bitter today, I just came from a all nighter -- Thank god for red bull.

will this work the other way around, will apple after porting Quick time to OS X recompile it for Linux and the other *nix?

What is the reason for moving the http server into the kernel, I do not see any benefits to it, could you enlighten me about it.
