Well I think the reason why people do not like IT people is a follows. We are at fault for it. We as tech people will go around telling them that since they don't understand computers that are stupid. The other day at my LUG group the people were calling the general public a bunch of stupid idiots. Look at it this way, why work with and respect someone who just going to call you stupid. I know many very very intelligent people that have never used a computer. I have at my church gotten linux used on 2 computers, soon to be 3. The reason the people were open to the idea, was not because I went in and started badmouthing what they were using, I went in and said this how we can make what you do more efficient. I have set up a network and installed a samba server and a linux firewall (this also allowed the church to save on internet connectivity, instead of 3 isp at 20 for the different users, one dsl at 40 a month a savings of $20 a month.) When you go to people remember that they may not know computers, but that does not diminish them, and does not mean that they are idiots.
How about the real techies that just got out of collage at the time of the crash, I got into computers because I loved them and was programming since I was 8. All I hear is that I don't have the exp. that they want, being fresh out of collage as of a year and a half ago. No job means no exp. no exp. means no job.

Take a look at the price they are asking for those things, 8000 for a 486 laptop, he has lost step with reality. You will also see that no one has put a bid in on any of this stuff, if you realy want to help buy, and be ripped off. For those of you who are intersted here is a link to a site with his call sing info http://www.qrz.com/detail/N6NHG
Ok some guy buys a gun when he is allowed, he flips out and goes on a killing spree. You get the gun from him, but he has no fear of you with his gun because you can not shot it. He attacks you and gets the gun back and you are dead.
Not only do we have an 802.11b network setup (he and I are the only ones that use it) but we did encryption, MAC address filtering, a nonsense ESSID. You think that is paranoid you should see the firewall!!
<bad humor> Tonight on channel 4 news, local Lutheran pastor arrested for using 802.11b networking technology, the FBI said that all you use 802.11b are terrorist, still at large the sysadmin for the church police are instructed to shoot on sight. </bad humor> You know they will not say wireless, because then people will know how stupid this is.
Ok I admit I don't like microsoft, but I do not see MS trying to get into the phone market. Only recently have I seen phones with with the PocketPC OS, but I saw that comming when I saw phones with PalmOS on them. Why because there are people out there that do like PocketPC (I personaly dont see how, but if they want that they have the right to have what they want, is that not what we are realy fighting for here, the right to chose, so let them chose what they want) Also the artical said that there were no complants, how can you file a suit agains a defendent with out a plantive?
And to others who have said they don't see why people want these, well it is nice to have, I have a cell phone a seperat PDA (palmOS) and a laptop, and I have the calbes to go to the laptop and the palm, it is nice to do a quick check of the e-mail when i am sitting on the bus with nothing else to do. ( I admit I would not surf the web with it, after all it is a CDMA PCS phone so the speed is only a 14.4 modem)
I would say no law suit now, but if they are consered maybe they could put some resaonable checks in place, but just don't single on company out, the checks should be there for all companys.
If they ask you do something you can get done in 15 minutes, and you do if for free, this still can be a great asset to you.
You finlly find that job you realy want and it is a dream job, you are asked for refernces, well if you refernce a pervios boss. If you have helped him out in the past he would have no problem in giving a good (maybe great) refernces, I think that would be a good asset.
I admite if it takes more the 2 hours you should be compensated for your time (you might want to get per hour what you were getting on the job, if you can figure that out, I will assume you were saleryed and not per hour)
No on the demanding part, I would question why do they think they have the right to demand anything from you, you are no longer emploied by them so they have no rights to demand anything from you.
Other then people doing video work, at this time who really needs this kind of storage.
I have a 20Gb mp3 player and I still have not filled it 1/2 way.
I would hope that a system would never need more then 15Gb for a full useful install (included a suit of programs for use to be productive)
With the above listed size I would hope a system would never need, a 20 Gb system would still have 5Gb for user data, a 40 Gb system would leave 25 Gb for user data. (admittedly some specialty apps such as cad systems would need more storage, but here I am thinking more on the lines of home users, maybe I am wrong thinking there, maybe these systems are targeting business then I can see the use, databases can get very large)
Also how is the speed of this DVD? What applications would you see for use of this technology?
Or not, the 2.4 Ghz is a large band, and I don't think 802.11b and cell phones are not on the same freq range, so if the front end of the the 802.11b front ends are well built and the cell phones do not dearavate to much they could co-exist with out effecting each other.
but, why not. I hate taxes asmuch as the next. but why should the internet be diffent then mail order, or in a normal store. I sad but the goverment is run by taxes, if you by pass one tax another tax will go up to compansate, so pay your fair share one way or another.
True, but there are many proxies, just not in the US. So if a group wanted to follow this route there would many proxies to abuse. so yes people in other countries that put up public proxies stand to get hurt, but the people using them to bypass the law might not. Unless the proxy owner keeps logs and can produce them as evicance and have law enforcement go after the person that did.
How, are they going to block proxys too, what will stop a group from setting up a site in a diffent country and using a proxy in that (or another country) to view it.
I am a Christian and I would have to say that this would not be the point of the end of the world, as a Christian I do believe the Bible and it says that the end will come like a thief in the the night, well this is something we know about so no this will not end the world, the end probably will not come for many century's (maybe millenniums)

That is only in criminal cases, in a civil case the burden of proof is on you the defendant, so the BSA more then likely will go with a civil case.
been taken down already

Thanks you for the infomation. I missed that artical before.
Apperciated.
Do they have any idea when the 2.5 will be ratifyed to 2.6?

Just my 2c, if you want you can give me change.
Or not, linux developers can then point back and show that they have a way to tracking bugs, fixing them and being open.
Ok, I see your point there, I was thinking only of computers, I stand corrected.
I was comming from the point of view that video on a computer screen is not always the best way to watch something IMHO.
Again thanks for the info.

I heard if you search though the windows registry there is a NSA key.... I wonder what thay key might be lilnked to.
Thanks for the infomation there, I did not know that 802.11b was horazontal. Thanks

there is a way of doing a double antenna on a singnal input. I have a friend that has an antenna for satalite comunications (2m up and 440 down).
What he did was is has a boom with 2 directinal antenna on it that are perendiculare to each other.
Using this antenna (if he points it at an sat.) he can make it with 5w.
I don't think you pay taxes to a diffent state, I think you pay your states taxes and they get sent back to your state.
The goverment does own the land that the phone poles are on that transmited my order. Also are not the poles maintained by the goverment?
but, why not. I hate taxes asmuch as the next. but why should the internet be diffent then mail order, or in a normal store. I sad but the goverment is run by taxes, if you by pass one tax another tax will go up to compansate, so pay your fair share one way or another.
