I feel your pain, never in my life have a hated a phone company so bad, and Apple for sticking with that company. On my first bill that was insane because they have no options to setup so I could text to Canada I cancelled my service and hacked my phone. Then somekind of forced update thing happened and screwed up my iPhone. But I am hating how much Apple is trying to make things only the way they want them to be, how insanely popular, moreso, would their phone be if they just opened it up to all carriers. I can live without digital voice mail. Anyhow I was gonna make a anti-iPhone site, but the phone rocks, AT&T is the suck...
I had an iPhone for 4 months...all hacked out to run t-mobile and what not and then it had problems and I could not get anyone to help fix it for under $50/hr so I sold it. After using a windows mobile phone....I am seriously considering just getting an iPhone again and biting the AT&T bullet....but man they are so expensive as a cell phone company and they have deal for text messages to Mexico, but not Canada! But the iPhone has better use of features all around. I really hope the gPhone can match up to the iPhone and work on T-Mobile.
As far back as I can remember....doing computer stuff I wanted touch screens, not everything needs to be touch screen, but with a phone it makes complete sense. It would also work extremely well for a universal remote, and then when something new comes out like blue ray, you can select the blue ray device on you completely touch screen remote (or even have the touchscreen phone double as your remote) but panel in the car could also be a touch screen. The only hold back we have is doing it right. The voyager phone is an AWFUL implementation of touch screen and the iPhone is a beautiful implementation of the same. I also think that a lot of the focus should be that SOFTWARE is now more important than hardware, in that you can make one device with a few hardware abilities and then have it do a million things with software. The iPhone is a prime example, a processor, memory space and cell phone abilities and I could manage my websites, e-mail, make calls, use as a PDA, etc etc.
I got an iphone and the first I did was get a large bill from AT&T, so I got smart and canceled AT&T before the 30 days and unlocked the iphone, then about 3 or so months later something happened and I was swindled into upgrading and the fight to use T-Mobile instead of AT&T was too much, and anybody that know how to rehack wanted $50 an hour, so I was done with that, I sold the phone for as much as I bought it for and will just wait until they finally give up AT&T or the Open Moko comes out....which ever happens first.
The scary thing is that there are many a Mosquito's in Canada in Alberta where I will go for the summer. I once pinched a mosquito on my arm and almost got it to explode.....but it didn't.
I realized that all the really smart people around are not that smart. They know some stuff but will not/cannnot apply it and so they squander their intelligence...
I am getting my passport (I am Canadian) just so that when I am done visiting the family for Christmas, I can come back home with my American wife. Getting export from Canada is the people....unless they are the more French side of the the Canadians....
For the longest time I have been pushing open source, it works, its free and if there is a problem you can pop the hood and replace parts.
It is very apparent that Apple will be the next Microsoft, and their monopoly (if they got one) would be worse then MS's because they control the hardware and software.
But, for the time being, I am loving my iPhone that has T-Mobile for its service, and until I have problems, I'm interested in taking down monopolies but Apple isn't there yet.
I was helping someone use the Gmail chat feature and it magically dawned on me how much gmail kicks the crap out of Hotmail, I have some old Hotmail accounts and I was skeptical to move over to Gmail, but since I have I wondered how I ever used Hotmail. Man when I was a kid it was the email that your ISP gave you.....Well whatever will be will be!
The thing I do not understand is that if I had money to experiment I WOULD! I mean good golly, Apple has done it's hits and miss and their iPhone rocks! I am loving everything about it. I am a planning nut, and am very forgetful, so I need a device to remind me for everything. Palm is like Blackberry, everyone uses it regardless, and I will be the first to admit that the iPhone is not enterprise ready, but give it time and blackberry and Palm are gonna have some heat!
This is the only way I see that happening, I read in a xbox hacking book that the Sega Dreamcast died when they could pirate games for that system. My best bet would be making a really good tv out card driver and then making console like games for the Linux PC and making sure a really good controller has support.
Now there is proof that artist do not need the record labels to make money, I hope someone in RIAA sees this and trembles as they show it to their higher ups!
This Comcast and ISP wires things is getting out of hand, what is it that is making people so greedy and anti-competitive? Really, people are at each others throats! It's wires, who cares, the internet can't be this grand thing without people sharing the hardware that connects across the globe.
Here is what is gonna happen guys, not every one in every stage stage of their life will be able to afford a thousand DVD's nor would that be a good investment in any way shape or form. So we are all gonna view where ever we can, if we are cut off we will revert to podcast and youtube, the more and more things are cut off the more and more we will be pushed to something else. And I PREDICT that sells of media will do down, because less and less will be viewed and people won't know if something is worth buying. This act against TV Links has inspired me to go cancel my netflix and find more torrents to get avi files to play on my hacked out xbox. Thanks for the push in the right direction!
I am hoping that by working with OO that we could start telling our clients to just download and use and save hundreds of dollars by not using MS office.
I think that for just a plain jane web page, no, and people who like frontpage have crap for code, and I have noticed that NVU keeps shuffling my code around. But I think that if you know XML, and to parse data to and from RSS feeds, blog and a slue of other online technologies or formats, you can make a lot of money......marketing, not webdesign. It is my opinion that some of the most functional and well like sites are not eye candy, but actually have a reason to be visited other then to give the creator of the site money from his obnoxious ads...(cough--myspace--cough).
Haha, it is funny cause I never got asked these questions! I made a really hard effort to become a freelance web designer, I scoured craigslist, have a site, sent e-mails and even just helped people out for free, I think if I get a loan, learn to code PHP, C/C++ and the like, I will be much better off, I must be doing it horribly wrong cause it is way to much work to just get a perspective client that "might" pay me.......that is scary!
I am glad that the people who make scam web pages and garbage sites have no design sense and give themselves away quickly. THIS IS NOT A SCAM is the best indicator ever! Especially when it is in large, bold, blinking red text!
It is rather low, the web firm that I worked for, hired teenagers and washed out mainframe programmers that picked up HTML and CSS, and they only paid us $12 an hour, but the PHP programmers made like $18/hr....yeah pretty low. I do a tech support job now and hardly do anything compared to when I was at the design firm and I get $18/hr here, and I can do homework and manage my music in iTunes (a annoying feat that takes lots of time, but I gotta do it to use it on my iPhone)
I figured striking out on my own would make me a lot of money since I would charge less and do more, but it seems that unless you are in a firm they don't want to pay you at all!
But then you can tell the cop all about the computer software that runs those lights...haha

I'll take you up on that.

Well then lets hope a lot of big band ditch their labels and then fund little bands, eh?

yeah, that is what it has always been for me, though if four or five guys that do this got together, then you might be able to start a business...
