on the same note, many companies don't like laptops period because they are a security risk. people take them home, install all sorts of software on them and then bring them to work and connect them to the network. like a 2 bit tramp, god only knows what kind of stuff you've just introduced into the system...
you should read future noir if you want to know about the history of blade runner...
btw, the directors cut wasn't really a director's cut as such because they were given a very short period of time to make that cut, they couldn't do it properly. as such, it isn't exactly the way he'd like to have left it, but it is closest to his vision as was possible at the time given the short period of time they were given.
also, there are about 6 different versions of the film that are in (or were in) existence...
"really, really, really tries to cater to the 18-44 year old male gamer"
huh. i'm in that age range (26) and can't stand that crap. i'd rather just tunnel over the net and play w/ folks i know for free. but whatever, have fun trash talking to the xXxtreme...
i'm sorry, but i've seen this guy and he's an arrogant ass. he crossed the line and deserves punishment. you won't see any money from my wallet in your fund.
however, to be fair, i don't think 5 years prison is exactly fair when you've got murderers and whatnot going back on the streets after short terms. i think some time in jail (3 months?), a hefty fine, a long probation and a shitload of community service would be more fair than anything.
this way it doesn't screw up the rest of his life and hopefully he'll have learned something from it. hanging hackers isn't justice.
i've done enough beta testing for those assholes over the years. in fact, most software today i don't beta test anymore unless i'm getting something for it (other than the ability to crash my system in exciting new ways).
thanks for the link. it'd be nice if they brought that feature back out of the closet to the forefront again as it was handy to have an on/off toggle...
i mean, the promises that were made with the ps2, like prog scan and then the speed estimates saying it could push zillions of pix/sec promising life like animation rendered realtime (remember the videos they were releasing every few weeks?). then look at the final product. it was fairly disappointing after the first few days.
jeeze, look at the launch titles. most of them were horrid. i laughed at a friend that spent $500 and waited all night long to get his on launch-night only to see him play a game that looked like one i played in the arcade 2 years earlier.
today things have improved a lot, but even w/ the current polish on todays titles, it still doesn't match the promises that were made prerelease (not that sony is alone in this regard, but sony is the topic of this article...).
i dunno, i think people are sometimes a little too much like fox mulder. 'i want to believe'.
moral and ethical issues aside, i am wondering what the copyright laws in uganda are. what i'm getting at is, does it matter what it costs for windows licensing if that country doesn't have copyright laws?
i used to order tons of these things as general workstations for a bank i worked at a few years back. they were cheap, stable and reliable and easy to upgrade.
we were an ibm shop and used to spend lots on ibm pc's. then we went dell for a little while and then tried building our own machines for a short time (which was ultimately not worth the time w/ a small support department vs. buying prebuilt w/ a warranty). emachines had a cost/performance benefit that exceeded our other options for our needs, so they got a lot of orders from us. in short, it was an easy decision to buy from them.
the only problem we ever had was that some of the fans in the cases would occasionally get loud because they used plastic bearings. other than that, no serious problems with them.
some folks won't be happy until nintendo is out of the hardware business and makes mario games on the xbox where the princess wears skimpy outfits and has accurately modeled bouncing boobs and all of the folks in the mushroom kingdom carry bfg's and can perform bullet time.
btw, egm says on their frontpage "Could this be the most fun game of this year? Probably."

instead of writing billg@microsoft.com
use billg[ gif image of an at sign ]microsoft[ gif image of a period ]com
btw, put the alt-text in there for those that don't have images turned on.

actually, this looks quite similar to the disc they will be using in the PSP...
i tried and noticed it was a beta...
no thanks.

a language it is.
actually, warhol was one of the first artists to experiment with digital artwork... it is doubtless he'd have been doing digital art.
no shit, i've seen tomagatchi's with better graphics. well... maybe that's stretching it... :P

hell, we'd (the us) be getting the better deal by far.
when are these jerks gonna put a deflector shield on the shuttle like a proper starship?

here's, their complete review (10, 10, 9.5).
while i agree that epson makes decent projectors, they are designed primarily for office presentations.
when you are dealing with high resolution (hdtv for instance), fast moving video, where quality counts, epson is not the place to go looking first.
though i will say the s1 is decent for on-the-cheap, (which is what this article seems to be spotlighting)...
however, if it is *quality* you want, look elsewhere.
