a walk-through of KDE's desktop networking protocol handlers in the vein of sftp:// webdav:// and a few really nifty ones I wasn't aware of like info:/ perldoc:/ and tar:/
Good thing the Christmas Island people have made it safe for the goatse:/ handler.
Be sure you show George where we are on the map. It could be embarassing seeing him saying how great Canada's burritos and Corona are after he conquers Mexico.
It's about time the "give them the razors, sell them the blades" approach the printer companies have taken gets a kick in the shorts. They'll still make zillions from selling cartridges but at least one may have the option of refilling or buying 3rd party cartridges.
Think about it: why do some printer cartridges cost more than a cheap DVD player?
You can get cheaper products for $50 which will allow you to do more creative slideshows, effects, etc.
Cheaper, sure, but look at the size of that thing. I think the iPorn(tm) is a great idea. If users are able to dumb pictures from their digital cameras directly to this new gadget you could have your music, camera and lots of storage in 2 toys.
Pascal was more than just undergrad bubble sorts. The original Mac had all the hooks and development stuff in Pascal. If memory serves the Mac was the largest Pascal project going. Using C (Lightspeed C, circa 1986 or so) was a real bitch on the machine.
The first story from that site with their Ep IV breakdown killed the server before a handful of comments were up. Noooo... let's try it again with another link to the Ep V review! Surely it'll be better this time around!
I still have my boxed copies of CP/M-86, DR-C and DR-Fortran at home. Having used CP/M on an Apple ][+ with a Z80 card it was a pretty easy transition. To this day I still use Joe as my editor. It's a virtual clone of WordStar that I used on the CP/M machine 20 years ago.
Too bad DOS and MS won out, CP/M was the cat's meow at the time.
Well, I'd assume a ".doc" file created by OpenOffice, et al, would
still be searchable by the desktop engine. It also searches through
text files, etc. What do you save your word processing documents
in?
If Bad Guys really want your data, they'll take you along with your laptop and say "Unlock your machine or we'll cut off fingers until we find the one that works. Starting with your toes."
"I've read some pretty bad books on penetration testing [...] Assessing Network Security comes to us direct from the bunkers of Redmond."
Nah, too easy.

I forgot it was Halloween this weekend. Have to run out to buy apples and razor blades tonight...
Oh to be a shark. The meat is much more tender without fear-induced adrenaline pumped into it.

I guess that makes me an evildoer, eh? Ah well, at least Guantanamo Bay will be warmer than Winnipeg this winter.

An iPod with picture capabilties: I dub thee The iPorn
and have even solved the graphite ablation problem
I was just lamenting over the seemingly unsolvable graphite ablation problem!
That'll be tough. The "Distros" can't even decide on what files to put in what directories ("Does that go in
And, besides, Linux is just the kernel.

No, it was a hole in OpenSSH (also the OpenBSD version of Apache contains a lot of patches and runs chrooted)
Engineers there shrunk jet engines to the size of a coat button
Naturally the Department of Homeland Security will declare that people with 4 or more buttons on their coat are 'terrorists'
There are a few mistakes in that article.
as the site claims, there hasn't been a hole in the default install in over seven years.
Actually the claim is "Only one remote hole in the default install, in more than 8 years!"
OpenBSD runs on very few platforms and even then only in single-processor mode
If you're using an i386 system then SMP has been available for a while and is shipping in 3.6 (I have my CDs already.
OpenBSD isn't acceptable as a desktop system
I've used it as a desktop for years and the ports system works very well.

Sheesh...
the signatories of a declaration of independence from a monopolized and stagnant web
That type of hyperbole does nothing to help spread free software. I certainly hope the print-ad doesn't lower itself to these levels.

That would make it rather difficult to nail crackers & spammers on their network. What would happen in the case of a billing dispute?
.. the Mos Eisley cantina bartender shoots first, killing Greedo instantly and rendering Solo a parapalegic. Watch for the CGI wheelchair!

I'd love to see the "Trojan Condom" logo on that thing. Talk about great product placement.
sexually transmitted disease
Fortunately this is slashdot, no one here will have to worry about that.
Am I do understand that you don't like ACs?
