    It's about time the "give them the razors, sell them the blades" approach the printer companies have taken gets a kick in the shorts. They'll still make zillions from selling cartridges but at least one may have the option of refilling or buying 3rd party cartridges.

    Think about it: why do some printer cartridges cost more than a cheap DVD player?

    You can get cheaper products for $50 which will allow you to do more creative slideshows, effects, etc.

    Cheaper, sure, but look at the size of that thing. I think the iPorn(tm) is a great idea. If users are able to dumb pictures from their digital cameras directly to this new gadget you could have your music, camera and lots of storage in 2 toys.

    That'll be tough. The "Distros" can't even decide on what files to put in what directories ("Does that go in /bin, /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin...")

    And, besides, Linux is just the kernel.

    Pascal was more than just undergrad bubble sorts. The original Mac had all the hooks and development stuff in Pascal. If memory serves the Mac was the largest Pascal project going. Using C (Lightspeed C, circa 1986 or so) was a real bitch on the machine.

    There are a few mistakes in that article.
    as the site claims, there hasn't been a hole in the default install in over seven years.

    Actually the claim is "Only one remote hole in the default install, in more than 8 years!"

    OpenBSD runs on very few platforms and even then only in single-processor mode

    If you're using an i386 system then SMP has been available for a while and is shipping in 3.6 (I have my CDs already.

    OpenBSD isn't acceptable as a desktop system

    I've used it as a desktop for years and the ports system works very well.

    I still have my boxed copies of CP/M-86, DR-C and DR-Fortran at home. Having used CP/M on an Apple ][+ with a Z80 card it was a pretty easy transition. To this day I still use Joe as my editor. It's a virtual clone of WordStar that I used on the CP/M machine 20 years ago.

    Too bad DOS and MS won out, CP/M was the cat's meow at the time.

    Well, I'd assume a ".doc" file created by OpenOffice, et al, would still be searchable by the desktop engine. It also searches through text files, etc. What do you save your word processing documents in?
