It's been a while since I've seen a digital projector glitch, but I remember film getting stuck and melting somewhat frequently. And don't forget the projectionist getting the reels mixed up.

My daughter has lived her six years with no cable television so far. While watching the Olympics last year on over the air signals she found the commercials to be her favorite part. When you never get to see them they are new and cool I guess.

I don't remember how old my daughter was before she saw a commercial. Probably 6 or 7. Like your daughter, she was fascinated by them. In fact she looked up commercials on YouTube for a while afterward. There have been some that were pretty funny. The VW V-Dub commercials were hilarious. We have dobermans, so the Audi "Doberhuahua" commercial was good for a laugh too.

There are two sides to this story you know. While the native Americans certainly did get screwed, it's not quite so innocent. They didn't believe that you could own land, yet they took payment for it believing that those who paid them were fools for giving them something for the land. Is life easier? All they have to do is make a trip to the mailbox to find out that *nothing* has changed.

Sadly, this is what happens damn near every time a new president has been elected from the opposing party. Obama got a Nobel for doing nothing FFS.

GWB got the blame for the Dot-com crash and 9-11. Both were in the works before he even won the primary.

I do as much as possible. But I'm old and still remember when things were built with that in mind. Granted, things like televisions are generally not considered repairable. Usually by the time they malfunction and are out of warranty, it's cheaper to purchase a new one that is usually better anyhow.

I still build all of my desktop computers because I can repair and upgrade them continually. I always consider the ease of working on a car before I purchase one too. Of course I don't do as much of my own mechanical work as I used to, but there is something satisfying about fixing your own car. When I was in my twenties I still had more time than money, and on a continual quest to go faster. So I rebuilt my own engines back then. I don't have all of the tools needed to attempt that on a modern engine. But rebuilding a fuel injection system is a hell of a lot simpler than a Quadrajet carburetor.

But, again, it depends on what you are doing. I work in medical imaging and most medical workstations have a minimum of two 16:9 monitors in portrait orientation. It's not really much different anywhere else though. Robert Byrd in West Virginia served 51 years. He was even a member of the KKK while in office at one point. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina was in office just shy of 50 years. He still holds the record for the longest filibuster, which was in opposition of civil rights legislation. He was well known for fondling women as well. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts was in for 46 years. After the incident with Mary Jo Kopechne, not only did he avoid any charges, he was also reelected.
