However, as long as there's a way to extract money from people by preaching AGW, there will be people doing it, and the moment it stops bringing in cash is when they'll stop.
I'm just curious as to how this money making scheme works. I mean is it just money for speeches? Is it money for research into better energy efficiency? If the latter is the case, higher energy prices regardless of global warming will accomplish that. Is raising taxes for the sake of raising taxes? As bad as politicians are they don't really get to keep the money from taxes. I'm just curious about who these rich greedy global warming activist are?
It's like developing a vaccine for the common cold instead of rhinovirus, or getting your pets vaccinated against rabies as opposed to the lyssa virus. Medicine and society are entrenched with diagnosing and preventing symptoms.
It may have been less, I'm not sure when he took them exactly. I know is wife came home and found him. He had been pretty depressed and had other medical issues.
Thirty extra-strength tylenols at once can destroy your liver and you'll die within 72 hours.
I once knew a guy who knew everything when it came to pills. When he decided to kill himself he did with Tylenol. It's been years now so I don't recall whether it was extra-strength or Tylenol-3 but it took less that 12 hrs.
I couldn't agree more on the quality of Blu-ray v/s cable. I have FiOS and occasionally DVR movies off the premium channels. Action scenes are a joke. Pixelation everywhere. Compression artifacts. It's aggravating. And FiOS offers the best quality HD of any provider.
Are you comparing Blu-ray to cable or DVR. In my experience DVRs record at a lower quality than the live cable stream. I'm not saying Blu-ray isn't better than FIOS, just wondering what you're comparing.
Using what?? Bitorrent? if so then duh.....
If you have direct links to the files and are not using file sharing networks it should not be taking you DAYS to download an ISO
That kind of depends, something popular like Ubuntu on release date downloads much faster over file sharing. I can download the 700 meg ISO in 11 minutes. I'm mostly slowed down by my own crappy network(10 mbps so I max out around 1.2 mBps), but hey I've never paid for a computer part.
most bare-bones version of Windows 95, and one that installs without prompting for a CD key
If I recall correctly when Windows 95 asked for the product key you could hit ignore and continue on your way. I think Office 95 would except 456 then anything. But that's been years, my memory could be off.
I don't know if I would agree with that statement. There are a lot of people for whom these products are toys. Why would anyone knowledgeable about tech be an early adopter of a format? How many of these people even have a setup to take advantage of the higher picture quality? How many of those set it up themselves vs Best Buy? There are some early adopters who love technology and learn about it, but I would guess 90% of early adopters just want to look 'cool' to their friends. Early adopter=disposable income.
My biggest complaint about the interface is it unnecessarily creates its own window/title bar. As such I can't use RBtray on it to keep Chrome windows 'always on top'. Which I like to do so I can stick a hulu window in the corner of my screen while I'm browsing.
I wonder if a skinny persons shit burns hotter than a fat persons. Kind of a measure of how many calories pass through someone. Seriously though I don't see why this is news. A tape worm will make someone lose weight so it makes sense that the bacteria in a person would effect weight too. Wasn't this the idea behind the yogurt with bacteria.
But how would you determine the creation of such money?
The money would be redeemable for a certain amount of energy much like silver certificates used to be redeemable for a certain amount of silver. I think you could base the printing of money on how much energy a country produced. Obviously some countries would be at an advantage, but then again they already are.
It's not at all fair, and would never be considered seriously, but it is the most logical form of currency.
It's not fair that some countries naturally have more gold than others.
The gold standard is something everyone can understand, is familiar with, and works.
I know we all agree gold has value, therefore it has value.
Right now it's around $844 an ounce. Does that help put things into perspective?
I think a lot of natural resources are at extreme highs. I'm just not convinced that basing our money on gold does anything more than constrict liquidity and create an economic placebo effect.
PS Did you think I was trolling. It's my first troll mod:(

Drag and Drop seems to be a difficult concept for many people.
Too bad software has such a lower profit margin than hardware. I mean it's suprising Microsoft can survive. /sarcasm
There are plenty of toys for adults
There are indeed.

so no one felt the need to point out the obvious
What site am I on, I thought this was Slashdot. Though people are taking my comment very seriously, so I guess it is.
I knew that... geez. Do I really have to explain the joke?
No you don't have to explain the joke, I should have replied to the summary as that's where the mistake originated.
".015 cents, or a penny and a half"
Let me guess... whichever is larger?
I can't believe no on Slashdot has pointed out that .015 cents != a penny and a half
.015 dollars = a penny and a half.
Who says America is shortsighted?
There really should be a hotline or something similar to call to get companies in trouble when they do totally dumbass maneuvers like that.
Would you have called and had all those machines taken from you as evidence?
and this group are quite knowledgable about tech.

a local government will have a much harder time shutting down satellite and radio (HAM, CB, walkie-talkie) communications
Plus you could use something like this!
I agree, people who need glasses should also not reproduce, soon the human race will be blind.. ;)
Yes, it reports its version as 6.1 for compatibility reasons. How many times does this need to be said?
They should make is 5.2, that would make it even more compatible. ;)
Ergo I would say "DNA tells every single genetic medical fact about you." is a bit of a stretch.
Tell that to the judge.
I couldn't find this, can you point me to a site. I'm using XP (when I'm not on some Linux distro)

Let's not forget MS threat to stop making Office for the Mac if Apple didn't include IE.
