    I "successfully" made those recovery disks. 3 DVDs as I recall. Then I plugged in a new/faster hard drive, and it wouldn't restore from the disks I had just made. It seems that even with the disks you still need a recovery partition on the hard drive.
    I gave up and did a fresh windows install. I probably should have just installed Linux, but I did buy the cheep HP box specifically to run windows programs.

    In my reading of 1984 I felt that the war could easily have been a fiction simply as an excuse for anything the leader/leaders felt they needed an excuse for.
    I also felt that big brother was not a real person. Or at least not alive anymore.

    Solar power will not catch on until you can get a bunch of solar panels and a decent battery together for a price low enough that it's a no brainer to install them.

    I just bought some land for some serious off grid living. So I have been looking at solar and wind power for my little get away place. I have found that the power generation systems have come down to an affordable price point, but the storage tech still needs significant improvement, and needs to come down in price a long way.
    I will be keeping a small backup gas generator for quite a while I expect.

    I passionately hate full screen apps.
    I can see all my applications open on the desktop and switch between them in a flash. I can also drag and drop between two separate windows. I have never understood why people seem to insist on all their applications run full screen.

    I guess I will take a pass on Windows 8.

    All these other services lost their internet access, that is all. While I am sure in a perfect world all theses government services and companies would have had redundant internet connections, that is often prohibitively expensive.

    I am still surprised that they have not put out an OfficeBox.
    Basically an Xbox but optimized for Office tasks. If you buy one you get Office pre-installed, an exchange license, and simple configuration to plug it into a windows domain. Probably a software store as well.
    I for one, think it would be a money maker.

    I agree completely. Shut them down. Most people will not even notice that there is a problem until their computer stops working.
    The users will call their ISP, and they will figure out very quickly what the problem and pass them off to someone to fix it.
    Perhaps one or two people might figure out that computers requite maintenance, just like a car does, and that maybe paying for such maintenance is a good idea.

    But I doubt it.

    Actually, the Earth's mass increases slightly every time it captures a meteor. Plus, its rotation is slowing, [physlink.com] reducing its Centrifugal force, so even if its and your mass stayed the same, a precise enough scale would show a constant increase in weight.

    That explains it!!! I am not a fat bastard gravity is just increasing. Someone get me a steak! :)

    'Have Space Suit Will Travel' is one of my all time favorites. I remember very seriously writing a letter to NASA trying to find out about getting a used spacesuit.
    I still remember the order of the planets using the memonic from that book:
    Mother - Mercury
    Very - Venus
    Thoughtfully - Terra
    Made - Mars
    A - Asteroids
    Jelly - Jupiter
    Sandwich - Saturn
    Under - Uranus
    No - Neptune
    Protest - Pluto

    Yes, I know that Pluto is no longer a planet. (It always will be to me.)
