In the past there have been some brilliant minds to come out of dirt poor poverty. I feel pretty safe in saying that every poor person is not a genius. In the same sense I think with the percentage of gamers out there now there are pretty good chances that some of them will become leaders and perhaps some of their experiences from say, operating as a squad, assessing complex plans will help them in their futures. THIS DOES NOT MAKE EVERY GAMER A GOOD LEADER.
For every "leet haxor" out there like yourself who wants all of that upgradeability and the joy of DIY there's scores of soccer moms who want to buy a mac mini or imac simply because they don't have to DIY or pay someone to (that would certainly add some price to your "hackintosh") Can you guess which is the target consumer of apple?
Ok, so for the sake of argument let's say apple sells you a "reasonable tower unit - just a regular fricken computer." When you go to upgrade it are you going to buy those upgrades from mac or oem it and save all that money? That's what I thought. I don't see much incentive on apple's part here.
Sadly big corporations don't always realize this and think that since it's just an individual they can push them around but thanks to the internet the little guy can stand up for himself sometimes. With as many problems as people are having with vista I have a hard time believing that people switching to mac counts as news.

My vote is for the dreamcast. It can't brag built-in ethernet but it's got the online play from good ol' dialup
