  1. You know what I'd like to see? on Han Solo in Lego Carbonite · · Score: 4, Funny

A *working* model of the Death Star. Now it doesn't have to be to scale, nor does it need to blow up an entire planet. I'll be sufficiently impressed if it's good enough to blow up a small city the size of, say, Redmond.

This means that Microsoft's customers are easily confused. Perhaps Microsoft's lawyers could use that as an angle for their case.

"Your honor, we have customers who paid real money for Windows upgrades, and they actually thought they were getting something in return for their hard earned dollars other than a superficial interface upgrade! Look at all those people who bought XP. If they were dumb enough to do that, they will almost certainly mistake some kid's website for ours! We're going to lose billions in revenue from that! 10. Mozilla isn't Linux-exclusive on Oracle Embraces Mozilla · · Score: 4, Insightful

It works on many other operating systems too, including the proprietary Windows. But it is still a success for Linux and open source in general, because any technology that does not allow Microsoft to lock in its customers is a win for freedom, and a loss for Microsoft. Microsoft values one thing more than money, that is the guarantee of making more money (marketshare strangehold). So as Linux and other open source operating systems gains widespread acceptance not just in the server space but with clients too, Microsoft loses out. Microsoft isn't left out or locked out, it is just forced to play on an level playing field.

So victory for open source is not the complete desctruction of the towers of Barad-dur in Redmond, but the creation of a fair and competitive server and desktop market and the neutralization of Microsoft's monopoly power. Once we have that, we have already won. Marketshare numbers will be meaningless, since you are not forced to adopt the platform with the highest market share to get the software solutions that you need.

For me, Linux is the superior desktop already. It has been for the past 3 years. It's not as hideous or as insulting to use as WinXP, which others claim in all seriousness is "superior" to Linux desktops because of its "integration and usability". Whatever the hell that means. To each his own.

The majority of people who complain that the Linux desktop sucks is the ones who get the hang-ups over "integration" and the fact that Linux does not work like Windows does. For me, I couldn't care less about integration, and the fact that it doesn't work like Windows is a feature, not a bug.
