24" wide vs 24" normal, which is more expensive?

The problem there is that you are comparing two 24" inch screens of differing ratios, when the two are not necessarily comparable. Personally, if I were replacing a normal TV with a widescreen model, I'd want one of similar screen height - meaning a 24" 4:3 set would be comparable to a 16:9 set of 29".

A few years ago (can't remember when exactly) some dumb kid in Boston shot at another dumb kid with Silly String. The kid with Silly String all over him then took out a real gun, and shot the first kid dead. Mayor Menino's response to this was a proposal to ban Silly String within city limits.

    You sure about that?

I've searched and cannot find any reference to this incident. Sure there are Silly String bans, but usually for anti-vandalism purposes (lame, but not as ridiculous as the above story).

I'm not trying to undermine your credibility, but I wouldn't expect coverage of such an episode to be difficult to find. Do you remember where you heard/read this?

Surely 2 minutes 24 seconds is long enough for the 'don't go faster than the car in front to kick in and slow you down?

What you do with your free time should be based on what you find entertaining, not just because of the stupid notion that gaming and such are only for people who can't find anything better to do. 'Give them something more interesting' != 'Give them anything else', which seems to have been your interpretation.
