    I'm not sure my friends out in the "sticks" would enjoy drones circling overhead, but they would get excited about FTD (faster than dialup) internet. And this would give the military a way to practice their internet enabling battle plans.

    I just finished reading One Jump Ahead by Mark L. Van Name (Baen Publishing).The story is set in the future where all machines and appliances have AI and are connected to the "Net". So you have to be nice to your washer so it doesn't gossip about you, etc. I trust (as I adjust my tin foil car bra) that the system would be used only for good purposes, but I can't help think that we are hurrying to reach the cool/scary future that is often depicted in sci-fi literature.

    I don't watch commercials. Period. Any movies or tv shows I watch are on DVDs renting or preferably checked out from the local library (they have all of Star Trek, Bab5, Stargate, and Doctor Who :-)

    Does that mean that I don't buy any products??? I actually research before I make a significant purchase instead of relying on a figurehead convincing that I need/deserve it.

    I admit I only read the summary (not that you expected more) but I'm surprised that most of the sports comments focusing on the sweat problem. As the summary pointed out, low drag swimwear would be an important potential use for this. As the last olympics highlighted, fabrics for swimwear play an important role in competitive swimming. My area of interest however, the sweating would be important since after I exit the water I still have biking and running left. :-)

    As pointed out by another poster, this case is relying on a law that doesn't really fit the facts. But as our society continues to evolve, we must learn to adapt and deal with life online. Law is fluid and this case is just the beginning. Given enough time, the laws will have evolved to more adequately deal with our digital world.

    A police department in NC required there officers to wash their patrol cars but wouldn't allow them to wash them on the clock. When the hourly employees question the legality, they were told that police departments had certain exemptions. Finally, someone had the guts to call the Federal Labor Board. The feds surveyed the ~45 officers to learn how often they washed their cars and how long it took. Then the city had to pay back wages to the tune of several thousand dollars an officer. The city quickly made a contract with a local car wash to keep the department's fleet clean.

    This pic from TFA shows a "heating/cooling" interface which shows that the units are going to need a coolant circulation system which would makes the whole system more cumbersome than it appears at first glance. With each LRU at 400 pounds + the cooling system I doubt these would be mounted on a hummer.

    My "vehicle" choice currently uses water cooling with the ocean acting a large heat sink so no additional cooling should be necessary. As a bonus, the buoyancy provided by the salt water will render the 400 pounds (that's weight for those of you across the big pond) much easier to deal with.

    I felt bad that a fellow /.er's ads were ignored so I went to your sight. At first I thought you must have already disabled the ads because I couldn't find any. Then I remembered to turn off Adblock. I clicked the ads just to give you some clicks but I do want to point out that the ads were both unobtrusive and relevant to your site.
