Why? It would be like aerial combat has pretty much always been: whoever comes in from the right angle, and fires first, wins.

'Robot Wars' et al. are interesting because they disallow such weapons, and force the 'bots to fight hand-to-hand (so to speak), where differences in the robots' designs and the controllers' skills is actually of consequence.

It's only a "problem" for DS owners who've managed to dig up old (and likely more poorly shielded) televisions, with rabbit ears, and then play with the DS two inches away from the antenna. Hardly something the FCC would be concerned about.

Even then, I'm still skeptical about the claims that the noise seen on the television screen at all resembles the contents of the DS screens -- anyone skilled at signal processing care to speculate on that? The DS' two screens both have a resolution of 256x192 pixels.

  10. Re:Is Lucas Arts now considered the worst game mak on The Future of Star Wars Gaming · · Score: 1

It was right around the time those games were made when things began to go terribly wrong. Just plain bad games started filtering through and getting released.

Then, with Phantom Menace came a shift in focus to almost exclusively franchise games -- most of which seemed ill-thought-out, and not especially fun.

The most recent change has been towards outsourcing most of the development of their games and focusing on their role as a publisher. This has had mixed but better results.

It's my understanding that most of the people involved in LucasArts' classics are either long-gone, or have left following the most recent wave of cancellations of non-Star Wars games.

Well, as others have indicated, Derek Smart has a bit of a history of ... saying things on forums. He talks a lot but, well, very few people have ever played his games, and even fewer are brave enough to admit it. For years, he claimed to have a Ph.D.; this was proven to be a lie.

It reached the point, long ago, where saying the name "Derek Smart" in an online forum was it's own punchline. It's also rumored that saying his name three times within a thread will cause him to appear and flame everyone in forum into oblivion... this has actually happened on many occasions.

So, you can understand if people tend to assume that he's not the best person to take over a fondly remembered game series... add to that his threats to shut down an otherwise worthwhile open source emulation project and the bias shown here on slashdot is quite understandable.
