What do you expect him to say - "we're late to the party and we botched the implementation". It took them five years to create Vista. They pulled out every major feature except 'security' and DRM and they got security wrong. And now they wonder why customers aren't clamoring to upgrade to Vista.
Just like a broken clock, Ballmer is occasionally right. This is one of those times. The smart phone market is incredibly competitive. And Apple will be competing with the likes of Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sanyo, LG, and other giants. If they manage to distinguish their product, that won't last long. If fierce competition wasn't enough, they have to partner with wireless Telco's (that are used to getting their own way).
Then the product itself is priced too high and is already showing signs of development problems. They pulled developers from Leopard and have taken a (small) schedule slip from the announced date. There are rumors of problems involving the duration 'talk time' per charge. No, I don't think Apple will be a winner in this market.
Last year, a local middle school was locked down and a hazmat team was called in. The kids were kept locked inside for several hours after the normal release time, cause someone had inadvertently dropped and broken a mercury thermometer OUTSIDE the school.
Times have changed, I remember rolling around blobs of mercury on lab tables in school.

I'm sure Fred Phelps would agree with you. I think there's a time and place for everything, and the time of a person's death is a time to leave their family, friends, and loved ones in peace.

Yes, next question.
BTW, when Bush came into office the solar system had nine planets...
As an alternative, why net take the best parts and build a decent server, and then build as many thin clients as you can make. That way you can also lock down the thin clients and only have to maintain software on the server.
I agree with you. Many of the posts show an appalling lack of civility (I know, "This is Slashdot!") and human empathy. My condolences to his family. As for the late Mr. Valenti - no comment.
It would be interesting to see what percentage of Vista sales were for 'Vista Home Basic' (i.e. the bare minimum default MS OS that vendors put on new boxes). It would be more interesting to know what percentage of those boxes get wiped and have XP or Linux installed on them.
A T1 is expensive for the same reason that a CD in a record store (if you can find one) is expensive. It's expensive because the legacy phone companies are having trouble adjusting to the business models of the twenty first century.
A few months ago, I would have said the challenge was getting new games for the Wii into the market. We're still in a bit of a drought (depending on your taste in games), but there's a lot in the pipeline. Game makers are switching over to support the Wii given it's new found popularity and growing market share.
Nintendo's challenge will be to produce enough units to meet demand without sacrificing quality. They were clearly surprised by the demand, and have been slowly ramping up production. They are at a production volume of 1 million a month, and ramping to 1.5 million / month.
Exception Relating to Security- Nothing in this Act shall apply to--
(1) any monitoring of, or interaction with, a subscriber's Internet or other network connection or service, or a protected computer, by a telecommunications carrier, cable operator, computer hardware or software provider, or provider of information service or interactive computer service, to the extent that such monitoring or interaction is for network or computer security purposes, diagnostics, technical support, or repair, or for the detection or prevention of fraudulent activities; or
OK, your ISP can do network trouble shooting. Your HW / SW vendor can provide on-line tech support. Seems reasonable to me.
(2) a discrete interaction with a protected computer by a provider of computer software solely to determine whether the user of the computer is authorized to use such software, that occurs upon -- (A) initialization of the software; or (B) an affirmative request by the owner or authorized user for an update of, addition to, or technical service for, the software.
Microsoft can run their "Genuine Advantage" crap. Not thrilled about it, but not surprised.
I don't see anything to get terribly alarmed about. What am I missing?
Interesting. Perhaps the Secretary of State was merely contracting out to a site that could handle the unusual volume that an election site would experience during a highly contested election.
Wait, what am I thinking? No, it's more evidence of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
> Now supporting XP and Vista!
Don't forget Windows Server 2003 R2. See, it's REALLY cross-platform
Just don't ask it to open the pod bay doors.

Could also be that early adopters were more likely to have home WiFi than later purchasers.
> Just give everyone an iPod and be done with it.
:-)
Perchance, are you a member of the Michigan legislature?
Wifi enabled players + municipal wifi + device ID + central revocation list = frustrated criminals.
Next is various school Wii Sports teams, followed by the Link Fencing Club. School fees will help pay for replacement Wiimotes and video screens.

Didn't anybody tell you? The terrorists are causing global warming!

Someone should create a 'Sued by Jack Thompson' logo for gaming sites.
Had to check the URL again, for a second I thought I was at the Daily Kos.
> The other units (I think there are three or four) were aggregate losers.
The gaming division (Xbox, Xbox 360) has lost $5 Billion, MSN has never made money either. Don't know about whether their mice / keyboards earn $$$.

Too late.

Tried it but couldn't get past the first boss level.
