I met a young Australian guy (about my age) in a bar last summer. He was shocked that FREE wireless (hotel/coffee shop) internet was faster than ANYTHING he could dream of buying at home.
We really need Australians on the internet... I don't want to seem racist- but the one's I have met all seem to have the greatest personalities (much more interesting than us...)
As an aside- it's funny that the ONLY thing Americans know about their culture is what we see in movies... and vice-versa. His big shock in talking to me was that a lot of Americans get summer jobs in HS and college... According to television shows I guess we all just hang out!
I did not realize how important hip flexors were until my last year of running in school. By then it was too late. I remember lifting with my friend (on a hip flex machine) and he could move at least 50 lbs more than me and not be tired at the end of our set. My turnover was just as quick and i could leg curl/press way more than him... but he could run just as fast.
Back in the days when i was in school, warm-ups were there to avoid injuries, not to increase your performance.
By making your muscles weaker, the chance to get an injury decreases as well. People have proved over time (and quite many times) that you are able to hurt yourself with the strength of your muscles alone (ever seen those 100m sprinters falling like bricks on half way ?).
I won't make up a qualifier and say most, but I do know MANY people get injured at the end of their track workouts because of increased speed.
We used to run 12x200m or something at a consistent pace. It is human nature to try to tear it up on the last repeat- but that is how you get injured.
The weaker muscles cannot take the stress being put on them.
I have been practicing this methodology for a while now. My highschool and college track coaches (and the assistants coming in) have preached Dynamic stretching (stretching through movement). So you do things like skipping, leg swings, high knee running, and a whole bunch of crazy things. It gets the muscles ready to move- not increase flexibility.
Increasing flexibility is for after the workout, where you hold a stretch for 20-30 seconds (for muscle memory).
Maybe I have drank too much of the koolaid, but I assume this is what the article is talking about. It's been around for a while (at least 8 years).
McCain turned me off most every time he would say- (rough quote)
"I am for wind power, solar power, clean coal, alternative energy, and offshore drilling, unlike my opponent."
I don't appreciate being lied to. He used this line during each debate- so obviously it was a flagrant attempt to mislead the public. I can hear his defense, now- "but he DOESN'T support offshore drilling..."
People are suggesting that the "gangstah" (read: Rap videos, MTV, BET) culture values expensive 'things,' be it nice cars, diamonds, designer clothing... The problem is, many (not all) of the people who cling onto this culture cannot afford such things, resorting to being irresponsible with money (not putting food on the table, not saving for college, buying an iphone instead of paying rent). It is not a race thing- it is a culture thing- whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, whatever. It's a different culture with different values. I think it's irresponsible, stupid, and so obnoxious... but who am I to judge.
You're probably right that these low incomes indicate college students. But is it so hard to believe that a 'fab ghetto style-4evah' guy/girl making 25k/yr who buys 2k of bling a year isn't also buying an iPhone (which has the annual cost of nearly double a traditional cell)?
Low-income isn't black. The people who automatically get defensive about race when talking about income issues are the racists.
But then again, I'm just a little whitey from a suburb in Maine.
Is Maine known particulary for it's foliage? It seems a rather odd thing to comment on. (By foliage you mean the leaves on the trees turning autumnal?)
"Can't this wait till after my scooter club's fall foliage trip to Maine?"

I don't see why people on Slashdot get so worked up about Larrabee in the negative way.
Yes it's for gaming (Why else is Abrash listed as an author on the Larrabee paper?). Yes it's for high end systems. Yes they are aiming to win (as they've put it).
Personally, I believe Larrabee will be a huge success, but even if it isn't- look at it from the research side of things. We read every day of interesting and different technologies that are basically proof of concept and never make it to market. Intel is taking a radically different approach to graphics and putting it to market. Who wouldn't be excited?
Even if Larrabee fails- it is still a great step forward for graphics processing and multi-core systems.
Don't hate Intel just because they believe in Larrabee and you don't. Or because you love your nVidia card. Give them the props they deserve for being so innovative.
When I was living in Philadelphia, last summer, this happened to multiple victims for a few weeks. They even had a description of the perps, but I never heard any news of them getting caught.
Anyway, glad you made it out alive. I would freak out if that happened.
0) OLPC starts working on a laptop. It has a non-Intel chip and is designed for ultra power efficiency.
1) Intel starts working on their own laptop. Intel's of course has an Intel CPU; and it is designed to run Windows.
What's annoying is your timeline (and the fact you counted from zero). You have no idea when Intel began working on the classmate or if the idea was already in the works. Yes, they were part of OLPC- but if they had already invested serious money into their own program, can you blame them for backing out?
They are a business, and the only reason their practice can be seen as wrong is because OLPCs were supposed to save the poor...
Paying when you receive a message, makes no fucking sense...You don't really have an option not to receive someone's message
There is nothing I can't stand more than people who try to point out false arguments. Let's just throw 'modus ponens' out there to sound intelligent./. doesn't have to be a point by point argument, it can be conversational.
he is pointing out that SMS is different from the 'long distance phone call' because the receiver does not have a choice. (except to block senders as they are identified or to turn off the feature as a whole)
If one of my friends started IMing my phone and it came through as SMS it would look like-
> hey, what's up (.20$ verizon charge)
> lol guess what (.20$)
> so I went to the store... (.20$)
> and like holy shit man.. you'll never guess what happened... (.20$)
Maybe I need more clever friends, I don't know... but mistakes happen and we, the receivers, get the bill.
This is why whenever I SMS my sister, a huge cheap ass, I sign the message with "10 cents" (the at&t charge)
That's what I love about the olympics- even the long track events are fast (and interesting) enough that I can sit through them AND be entertained. I could never watch even a mile in highschool, or a 5k in d3 college track.
The Olympics are when distance events aren't just excuses to give sprinters rest;)
NOTE: above is said with humor and respect.
I can't watch that long ass swim event, though (like 25 laps?)... and am glad when they cut away, but that's only because I don't understand the sport. So I guess I see why they do it to track/swimming... It isn't fair to people who really enjoy the sport, but it may keep more of a diverse crowd watching.
PS: GO MAINE CHICK IN THE STEEPLE!
It's an integrated chip. Maybe you should have done some research before you bought it. You can READ that most of the integrated chips don't support things like HARDWARE vertex shaders, etc. (software emulation == slow as nuts)
They are always a step behind, but Intel produces low-end graphic chips that lower the costs (and power usage) of laptops for a LOT of people.
It's impressive how much smaller and more powerful they are making these low-end devices.
I for one am really excited for larrabee, even if it bombs. It's really cool to see the graphics people and the CPU people converge.
I remember running into wal-mart 'real quick' to buy Diablo II when I was younger. The cash register reminded the woman to card me, so not only did I have to get my dad from out of the car, but I had to give him the money to give to her (a little extreme).
Anyway, my parents never cared what I played because they trusted me, and I was open about it.
Kids are either going to sneak it,
or they are going to have an open conversation with their parents.
Denying kids to go off and purchase whatever they want at least promotes the latter some of the time.
you obviously haven't read any recent rape statistics. No, not all of them end in pregnancy, and yes, sometimes condoms are used (not for that reason of course), but it still leaves a lot of women who have to make a choice- be it against their religion or not.
All I can say is thank God for the morning after pill- Be it illegal in some faiths or not- it keeps a lot of women from having to make that more difficult choice later down the road.
disclaimer: post isn't for or against abortion- but I am sick of people acting as if rape is a corner case (in a multitude of things) that doesn't affect many people.
I have to agree... winamp was my love for years, and every time I would format my desktop (once a year... it's windows...) I would hesitate more each time before installing it. It has become uber bloated and like you said keeps prompting for annoying 'download and reinstall' updates.
Well, my hard drive crashed... and I don't think Winamp is going to make it on here this time.
It is just too damn annoying.
If anyone knows a nice alternative (would rather not use winamp 2x), let me know... I don't want to use iTunes...
hence the at least!
take fast internet for granted.

Today I forgot my Hertz Gold Club membership (comes with the job) password. Guess what button I got to press...
"Email me my password"
I said no... no... it'll be a new password...
And what did I get in my inbox now 2 minutes later...?
I cringed like hell.
Yeah, we allowed idiots acess to the internet.
Or are you you arrogant and ignorant as to believe the only things that have so influenced mankind have only been produced within the last century?
Oops, did somebody shit in your cereal this morning?

I thought Larrabee was intel's step out of mobile, low-end integrated graphics. I could be wrong, though.
