My biggest fear is that newer models will come preloaded with a version of Norton, which will slow the beautiful creamy flow of caramel coloured espresso to a painful dripping of darkened, over extracted mess.
Wait until you have kids. They'll make their OWN desktop... on your dual 24inches... with crayons... sharpies even... and scratchy things... and juice...
just execute the program and bang, it's patched--means that someone with root access could slip a rootkit right under your nose (i.e., without the system administrator being aware of this)
Pfff, I've been able to do that on windows for years!:)
In the 50's, the sword was way mightier than the pen.
But now... oooooooh. Thanks to technology, we've pens far deadlier than any sword! They can kill an entire music industry with their mp3 playing capabilities and kill an entire movie industry with their movie capturing skills. Muwhahahaha!
Given we got XP after the ME fiasco, that gives hope for the next windows:)
It seems MS needs a failure to actually get some good work done. And the only reason they don't fall everytime they have such a failure is that domination you speak of.
I think what's interesting is that, with the other options to MS becoming better and better, there will come a time when MS can no longer afford to make a failure product in between 2 good ones. I think a good example is IE. With firefox 3 looking like such a solid product and the benefits of the gazillion of addons out there, the "failure of IE7" makes it so that a lot of people won't "go back" to ie no matter how good ie8-9 might be. (Note that when I say failure of ie7, I don't mean the % of users, but for an app that is as important as the web browser, it is a less than stellar product)
The software business is certainly entertaining to follow because of how quickly the tides can turn, which is really a consequence of the companies' own desire to roll out new versions so quickly. Even if you stick to a company, you've the trouble of upgrading/migrating etc.
To get back on topic, while I don't think this the "downfall of MS" (cue music), I don't think they can afford to have their next OS another Vista/ME failure. I think the moment they'll make two such failure OSes in a row, then they will really be in trouble./ramblings
I find that most books or writings which have so much more internal dialog and thoughts than actual dialog don't translate well to series or movies. A silly example of this would be spiderman, where the movies are simply not the same without Parker's inner dialog (which is present in many of the cartoon series)
With all the inner dialog, I wish Dune was done in some sort of animated series where thoughts can have voice over and it somehow works better than in live action movies.
Perhaps I wouldn't go as far as to say Microsoft is over at last.
But, you have to consider that while Vista IS indeed a failure, office 2007 is not particularly fantastic either... One of the big reasons often mentioned by someone sticking to windows is the obligation of supporting Office and Photoshop, etc. With the introduction of the docx(and the like) formats of office 2007, it seems like Microsoft provides a greater opportunity for those wishing to distance themselves from MS to finally take the leap.
In fact, a lot of "key" apps have become so bloated and changed so much for the sake of "upgrading" that they are slowly driving customers away (ie: CS3 is the first photoshop I really loathe).
While I do not pretend to know what is going to happen, I've a feeling this is all very good for the world of software. Perhaps the "bloatware" era is slowly at an end, and we'll see slimmer more optimized solutions thrive once more?
It is actually expected for a new OS to demand higher system requirements. I expect it will run slower than XP on the same machine.
But I want something in return. Fancy UI and desktop search do not excuse the slow perfomances.
When XP came out, a lot complained about the speed also... but in exchange you got a system far more stable than 98. Good tradeoff.
Vista is no more/less secure, stable, etc, than XP. Where is what we get in exchange for higher requirements?
Fair enough, but most people in the field of research have read the famous paper stating that those who write papers on random correlation live 10% longer than people who don't.
I prefer the vista approach: Admin privileges are required to snoop these emails, do you wish to continue? YES/NO

Rockstar will soon release GTA4 extreme edition, the linux port that only runs on filesystems made by *real killers*!!! So much controversy!

Sigh, no load time I guess

Throw a huge black rock at them.
I have a Looney... ugh, my vote is not gonna count, is it?
I'm an optimist, so I believe all HD brands fail pretty much equally!
Actually, my fear is that even MORE captchas will emerge out of this.
If I had to enter a bleepin captcha everytime I did a search on ebay or amazon, I'd be searching exclusively for "rope +hanging"
But your honor, I swear my neighbor looked just like a threatening cloud at the time!

NURSE: Doctor! A driver in full drug overdose and no healthcare plan just hit a homeless man, which one do we repair and who will pay for what?
DOCTOR: Arrrg... too... complicated... need Ritalin to focus...
Yep, we're all screwed!
Clearflow is based on Vista. It takes so much time to boot, by the time its ready, everyone is at work already and the streets are free. Genius.

None need fear any longer, for I've fixed the problem. It was one of them sympatico beavers, stuck in one of the tubes.
All may resume downloading legit ISOs at full speed now.

To be fair, you would then have to google for an hour to get wifi working with the nutritious and filling meals :)

Actually, they corrected it. Hollis now says the controller will cost only 5 easy payments of 9,999.99$!
They have intelligence to lose?
"It looks like you're entering your secret PIN. Would you like help?"
I never should have said yes...
