    1. Stop being xenophobic gits and get back to the melting-pot culture that made this the best fucking country on Earth in the first place.

I recently spent some time exploring how the US became, "the best fucking country on Earth in the first place." It all basically boils down to the World Wars. The US was very fortunate that neither of the World Wars were fought on it's soil. It spent quite a bit of money investing in industry and manufacturing for the war effort, and with the competition (Europe, Japan, China, parts of Russia) in ruin, the US was able firmly establish itself as a net exporter of goods. The US used this opportunity effectively to pay down the massive debt it incurred during WWII, and emerge as a world power.

As Americans, we like to believe it's some unique quality within all of us that caused us to emerge as a world power. In reality, geography and isolationism were the primary causes.

Actually, Walmart cashiers do get access to group health insurance. I have another relative that works as one. There are some criteria that have to be met though. (IIRC must work for the company longer than 6 months, and work more than 30 hours per week)

You are exactly right from an economics standpoint. However, potential engineers aren't becoming doctor's and lawyers (they make chump change!). Potential engineers are going to work on Wall Street, where they make millions.

Every few years I read one of these stories and get angry. Either the people in control have no understanding of economics, or they are trying to drive down the salaries of engineers. I'm beginning to think they want to reduce the salaries for engineers, so the big wigs on Wall Street can make more money for themselves. I'm sick of it!

The time has come for the engineers of the world to unite. People in the engineering world will form a society. I propose we call it The John Galt Society. One day, all of the engineers of the world will call a general strike, and bring the world to a halt!

Those "suggested speed" signs are for the worst case scenario. The yellow light should be the same. If a semi can't safely stop before the light turns red, the yellow is too short.

On a side note: I wonder how those red light camera's work on semis. Since they are hauling a trailer, it must be very difficult to track down the violator. Since they are so heavy, they're also the most likely violator. I know in Chicago, bus driver's already have issues with red light cameras.
