I also realize that Islam holy men and kings also killed many inventors and other ideas because they went against islam.
Just like how the Egyptian kings would kill an archetect if he did not do it the way the king wanted it.
All men in power are evil at one point or another in their life, your religion simply is a tool for them to justify their evil as they can put it off on God.
I have had SDLT tapes I recovered from the floor of a server room after sitting for 3 days under water that read just fine in a drive after being dried out.
If you get a decent tape backup it has built in redundancy, 48 tracks of data with CRC checking and redundant data written in case that CRC fails.
Granted, I'd not rely on them surviving kicked around the floor, but a real tape backup system is far, far more robust than the under $1000 garbage sold at newegg.
"Wait until your boss deletes that important document and your RAID system has deleted it on all drives in the array immediately at his request."
Do you know how RAID works? it stripes the data across ALL drives. if you think RAID5 keeps separate copies you are a little nutty.
RAID 1 is mirroring, but nobody at all uses it other than home users that are paranoid and like paying 2X for their storage space.
and to stop idiot bosses, you put in place a RCS. revision control does wonder to solve the "oops I deleted all the document files on the server" problem.
You cant get a real backup solution at best buy for $49.00 if you have 50TB a week that is critical data then you need to buy a very large tape library system and you should have a budget for the IT department to handle the expenses.
I highly doubt the 50TB a week, I worked in a Video On Demand setting and we were dealing with adding 35TB a week to the system, but none of it was "must keep forever" data, so we did not back it up. we backed up 10% as that was what made us 80% of the money and would re-rip everything if we lost it all.
do you really generate 50TB a week that must be archived forever? How are things at the Large hadron collider?
"RAID is no substitute for backups. Yes, RAID5 will handle a single disk crashing."
You know how many times I have seen a raid 5 go down hard with a single drive failure? too many to count.
Raid 5 lost a drive, no problem the hot spare will swap in and the rebuild starts..... and then drive #2 fails..... all the data is now utterly hosed as it failed during a rebuild, or better yet, the freaking hot spare was an old dead drive that someone failed to pull out of the cage during the 2 years when they cruised without a IT guy.
I have seen more raid 5 arrays fail with total loss of data than I can shake a stick at. what is more fun is when you lose all the data on a massive raid 50 because the engineers at dell made the scsi cables not lock in to the sockets, and the "new IT manager" that happens to be the CFO's 21year old son was touring the server room for the first time and grabbed a cable asking, "WHATS THIS FOR?"
I backup to backup server every hour and then spool to tape every night.
Once a week that weeks tapes get sent offsite and old 3 month old tapes are returned for re-use.
If the company's IT department is NOT doing daily backups then it's IT department is ran by an idiot.
If management will not pay for it, then they need to be told, "so everything you do today does not matter and has no value? because that is what you are saying when you say backups are not important. Hard drives are not reliable, if they crash tonight and we lose everything, how much money do we lose?"
You have to talk to them in management speak... AKA money.
1.2ghz atom based nanoITX motherboard, 7" lcd, custom duino based device to tell it the 3 axis accelerometer data and interface to to to other things. Soundcard out to a car amplifier.
android-X86 as the OS on a small flash drive. I am working on finding a wifi/3G minipci board that will work with androidX86 so I can have it connect to the wifi in the house and use a basic 3G data plan to pull weather and traffic data as well as other updates. Accelerometer is used for a fuel economy app along with GPS speed data.
Biggest problem is that Android actually sucks as a UI in the car. it is very distracting to change modes. I need to one of these days write my own "car app" that has big buttons to get me into 90% of what I need.
99% of all the "all in one" double din pc's are garbage. I have tried several and they all have barely any processing speed or the audio rearend is a joke.
IF a man in the same time was able to draw a perfect circle, I guarantee that they could figure out how to draw the figures to map out simple gears that do not need to mesh tightly. this was a hand cranked device that moved pointers, excessive lash would not be a problem.
Just imagine what we lost when the idiot Christians burned the Library of Alexandria. Just imagine how much was lost in ideas because if stupid laws or traditions in a certain islam bible. Just imagine how many scientists were killed in early society in general because their ideas or understanding was greater than some monarch, and we cant have that!
Humanity has gone out of it's way to destroy knowledge in the name of hating change. Organized political Religion (Catholic church, Radical Islam, Moonies, David Koresh, Church of the Latter Day saints, Scientology, etc....) is simply a powerful tool to help spread hate and control. None of these religions have ANY use other than to keep certain people in power and rich at the expense of others.
Knowledge levels the playing field, therefore heads of powerful organizations go out of their way to SQUASH knowledge as it threatens their power and might.
Not all religion does this, but the ones that have a few that benefit greatly over the control of a large group of followers does.
They needed all the modern tools such as heavy slave labor and better knowledge of metals such as aluminum, titanium, or even high carbon steel. Science achieved on the back of regular people that figured things out. The first high carbon steel swords were not made by scientists that were thinking about it. they were made by a uneducated swordsmith who had worked in a dirty forge for all his life.
http://www.mp3car.com/ to start with., I am far beyond that having everything in a single double din enclosure like a commercial stereo. I cant fathom having a separate PC elsewhere and running cables all over the car.
Because I can buy an ion base X86 nano ITX board cheaper and far easier than building a ARM based board from scratch and then have to build my own Android Distro for the device.
"For every guy that cares enough to sleep in a park, there's a million who care enough to push a different button in the voting machine."
you are deluded.
People are sheep. They do what they are told by the talking box in their homes. If you think there is a silent protest of millions just itching to "send a message" come election time then you are complete and utterly nuts.
It will be either another Corrupt Republican or another corrupt Democrat in every position elected. The elected will care about who gave them money and not give a flying fart about anyone else. It's been this way since Lincoln. Look at history, it is pretty darn clear that this has been going on for most of the country's existence and is simply getting a little worse because they accidently made it public that they are bailing out their other rich buddies instead of hiding it better.
"I notice that the analogous movement, the Tea Party hasn't had a problem playing within the rules."
The difference is that the Tea Party people were ARMED. Cops dont have the balls to pull what they do when the entire group us armed.
Police are pretty cowardly, they will happily mace and tase a 70 pound woman that is no threat, but they will back down if there is a chance that someone who is armed will stand up for their rights.
Occupy wall street needs a lot more open carry protesters with rifles, shotguns and very obvious-ally armed to the teeth. Suddenly the cops will be polite and obey the constitution.
If you get a nano ITX board with an ion chipset you will be fine if you use a good Media Center OS like linux+XBMC. if you are looking at a bloated setup that runs windows 7, then you need a lot more horsepower.
But I have a 15 watt setup that is fanless and as small as a Generation 1 AppleTV that plays 1080p with HDMI out and toslink to the stereo so I get 7.1 audio. I run XBMC live and it boots in 6 seconds with a SSD for the boot drive.
What about laptop wireless cards that need the special driver... Ubuntu had the "helper" that said, "you need this, click here to install" Last try at mint lacked that.
"and you can customize it to look and feel exactly how you want"
no you cant get rid of the non standard 2 pixel wide scroll bars that pop up to a scroll tab when you get over them. I hate them. I have spent hours trying to disabled the damn things and they stay there on the File manager and the settings apps.
Make the damned things go away and back to NORMAL scrollbars.
1/2 a bottle of sherry just before bed will solve that.

No I dont. I do a full backup nightly.
I have had SDLT tapes I recovered from the floor of a server room after sitting for 3 days under water that read just fine in a drive after being dried out.

It's called spool to tape.

Screw that. When does the AndroidX86 version get released? I need to upgrade my home made Car stereo that runs Android.
I can finally get rid of the crud hack of adding on screen buttons for volume, back and home.

Vorbis and FLAC? sure does.... VLC is an app I have on my iphone and ipad...
as for flash? what moron wants that?
Yup because that pesky free broadcast TV... how dare people watch free content!
