The problem are not the devices, Google TV, Rouku, Fire TV.... and now Android TV are solid platforms, very nice to use, very powerfull, with a lot of potential. But the content is the problem. Netflix is good, but people just don't complete erase Live TV from their mind with they use it. Live TV should be a part of any intelligent TV device, broadcaster needs to stop being local and start being World Wide. The broadcaster needs to re-evaluate their buiness to really have a "SmartTV" take off.
I insist that we need the final "YouTube" for Live TV. Let all the broadcast to join it and put their live content on a single WW catalog.
I think they need to diversify the volunteers population. They will be amazed to see how many people exists that can be up to eight hours at day without doing anything:)
I noticed that US-CERT changed it site. It said "the complete compromise", but now the web site says "could allow unauthorized remote code execution."
It said "US-CERT recommends that users and administrators enable Microsoft EMET where possible and consider employing an alternative web browser until an official update is available. ", now it says "US-CERT recommends that users and administrators review Microsoft Security Advisory 2963983 for mitigation actions and workarounds. Those who cannot follow Microsoft's recommendations, such as Windows XP users, may consider employing an alternate browser."
The engineers may have responsibility, but they are not the ones that made QA, build the cars and distribute them massively. I think it is bad to pin-point the engineers, blame them and destroy their careers this way.
I hope that this does not create a precedent that if product is a success the company will win money and get all recognition, if the product fails or if it dangerous the blame is on the engineers and they have to be publicly shamed.
I think that anybody that want to make a revolution and change the TV devices needs to focus first on the "Catalog of Contents".
Content is King! they said, but nobody focus on giving content. I think that an interesting thing to really out phase the regular broadcast TV network services and make a full Internet-TV reality is to start building a catalog of Live TV. Like YouTube, UStream, but that people can create their own Live TV channels and with an easy manageable EPG standard and that broadcasters little and big are free to put their signal on that catalog.
Everybody says that On Demand TV is the future, but they forgot about "Live TV" and local broadcast. The two ideas "On Demand" and "Live" need to merge.
I still think that Google lost the opportunity with the TV when selling the "Motorola Cable Box" unit to Arris: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/...
They had the opportunity on their hands to transform that unit and give a different kind of life to cable box subscribers.... too bad they didn't have vision for that.
It was sad for me to see that Google TV failed hard, many just blamed it on the manufacturers that never updated the devices and didn't go forward, but the truth is that Google failed with that with bad communication too.
Maybe it was too much to have a bulky remote-keyboard for the TV that make people afraid... I don't know. But Google TV was very good, it is like a standardized and tested Android TV stick, when you can run apps, chrome, etc.
ChromeCast is good, but misses all the functionality of having a full android connected to the TV.
I really hope that someone can finally crack the way to have a "SmartTV" but with something that can be standard and open source. I don't want to see fragmentation, manufacturer fighting between each other....but what the hell, that is the why market works.
Avaya bought Nortel some years ago. (2009) But Nortel patents was bought by RockStar ( Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry and Sony) which sold a portion of its patents to Spherix Inc (2013). Now Spherix sues Cisco. It is interesting to see how the patents business goes.
There is a OEM version of OS/2 called eComStation, which has ACPI, AHCI and some updated drivers to run on newer hardware. But it is not like the company behind eCS covers all the needs for the platform and community.
I think that OS/2 also deserves a shot on trying to be cloned and have an opportunity in the open source community. Sadly we don't have the resources to do this, but we need to build up a team of interested developers and supporters to do this.
I'm looking for help on an OS/2 Warp open source clone.
Comments, suggestions or hate mail is welcome. Even flaming is considered good feedback on the OS/2-eCS community:)

It will be great if all keyboard can have the exact number of key everywhere. And only change the position of the characters according the language, but all have the same number and sizes of keys. Ex: Latin America has a big "enter" key, which in the US is smaller, because the US has a extra key over the "enter" key. I don't care which layout is better, but it will be great to have the same keyboard keys size everywhere.
There is also a nag that Spain has a different kind of keyboard of Spanish Latin America. Why they don't just merge it together to single one:)
Even that I had my problems with lenovo (Thinkpad Tablet bootloader locked). I think that the Thinkpad brand is still a good choice.
Something that I really like from the technical point of view is that they always (almost) publish the "Hardware Maintenance Guide", so you know exactly how to disassembly the machines to add more card, replace screen, change/update hdd and RAM.

I think that David Gilbert (Author of the post and article) has lost half of the dose of the slashdot effect for forgetting the link :)
Good luck next time.
...to raise the price of the R9 295X2. :)
That will make our internet faster and will end the Comcast/Netflix deal.
Now they want to send Wally to Mars?
Does it means we can call Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1 (without patch) abandonware? :)

Check the Google cache against the versus actual site.
Let's see if it recognize me with my Groucho Marx glasses. Can authorities relate me as being a Marxist for that?

Kay, you are welcome to join OS/2 Warp Community, we need some open source driver developers here !!!!
(...damn... I'm so desperate to get developers to this community)

What is your recommendation if you have a dream that can not produce a decent business case for venture capitalist to join?
What if you project is something crazy that may not be consider usefull at first?
Any recommendations?
osFree (http://www.osfree.org/) was having a god moment some years ago, but sadly we lack developers to continue the project.
What I think that it will be interesting is trying to clone the close source components that runs on top of OS/2 Warp like WPS, SOM and PM.
- Presentation Manager - http://www.osfree.org/
- SOM - https://sourceforge.net/projec...
- WPS - XWorkplace and other OSS WPS classes
I think we should focus first in only one component that can run over OS/2 Warp 4.5x or eCS to later continue and gain momentum for the rest.
The community stills hangs out at http://www.os2world.com/

Open sourcing it will allow the software to keep going !!
