I understand that. My point is that all the taxes that are being paid by Google to provide a free lunch to employees might be a sum gross total more than the income tax that would be paid by the employees if it was calculated as a bonus. I don't know, and I'm too lazy to even try and calculate it.
Then again, it might benefit the government more to tax it as a bonus, which employees wouldn't use, then Google wouldn't provide it, then nobody gets any revenue off of it, and more people are out of work.
And Google is paying taxes on the lunch menu. The chefs they hire are paying income taxes, buying the food has an added sales tax, so on down the line. The US govt should encourage them to keep giving out freebies. Without the free lunches, they would probably be paying less in taxes, since they would funnel the money to an overseas shell company.
I've used owl document repository, but it needs a webserver to run. (http://www.doxbox.ca/) It's pretty nice, and it can do full text search (sometimes).
This is where the problem lies. You may not care about guns, gay rights, video game rights, copyright....
But you need to find common ground with people who do. If you do, then you can combine votes and get done what you really want.
(blah, blah, blah, I know politicians are owned by money, votes don't matter, blah, blah, blah. No matter how much money a corporation gives to a politician, they still need the vote of the populace to actually get elected, when you stand up for your rights and others do too, the politicians will eventually get the idea).
I don't think the author realizes that first person shooters are not about plot, but about killing shit. I don't play Borderlands because I care about finding the Vault, I play Borderlands, cause I get a machine gun that will light people on fire and burn up their bodies. I play Borderlands because I can shoot people with a sniper rifle and watch their heads explode.
It's the same thing about action movies. I don't watch Die Hard 4 or 5 because I think it's going to be about in-depth character development, I watch them because I want to watch Bruce Willis killing shit.
There are plenty of games with good stories. Skyrim had a good story. Fallout 3 had a good story. RPG games have decent stories. FPS do not. There's nothing wrong with this in my opinion. When I want to play a game with a good story, I'll pull out any Final Fantasy with a number less than 8. (Not saying anything after 8 had a bad story, but I didn't play any of them).
If you keep thinking like that, then you agree correct. It will take smart individuals ton change then course of history. Why not start with you, and you're friends amend family. Yes its hard, but I argue it must be done.
This is only because we the citizens of the United States have allowed it to become so. Write and call your reps in Congress. Tell them how you feel. Get all your friends and family to do it. Get them to get all their friends and family's to do it. I can almost guarantee that if over 100 million emails are sent tomorrow to Congress saying we want to own our devices fully. A bill will be introduced and most likely will be passed within a week.
The public of the United States is the largest lobbyist group in the United States. See my latest blog post in my sig.
Apples fall from a tree into a stagnant body of water. Enough rotting apples, stagnant water and wild yeasts, you get cider. Moose and most other cervids love apples. You just hear about drunk moose more often, because they live in pretty swampy areas from my limited understanding.
We have the same problem right now with Snow Geese. They are a waterfowl that we thought needed protection. So we protected them. Now there are so many of them, they are overpopulating summer breeding grounds in Canada. So much so, that they are the only species of migratory waterfowl that has it's own hunting season at the end of the regular waterfowl season with no bag limit and all the other regular waterfowl season restrictions loosened. (You can use electronic calls, no shell limits, unplugged shotguns). They are practically begging hunters to kill as many as possible. And the hunters aren't doing a good job at it. The population keeps increasing every year.
This is the flaw with my plan, but as Rage Against the Machine stated, "It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now?".
If you start it, and get all your friends and family to start. If they get all their friends to start, it will increase exponentially. Within a decade we could get the money out of politics and make real change in the government. We are at a point in society, where this is truly possible.
Just earlier this week I called out one of my senators on twitter and he responded to me with the truth. It was amazing. Get everyone to start doing it.
We may not have town-hall meetings, but with the speed of communications today, you can make your opinions know to your elected reps. You can call the office, email them, Facebook them, or tweet them. In fact you can do all of the above, and you should. Your rep may not listen, but then you can do all of the above and let that person know why you are not voting for them. Get enough people in your district to do the same, and no amount of corporate money will sway your rep. They will realize that they have to represent the people, and not corporate interests or they will have no job, and no more corporate money. If enough people in enough states did this, we could get rid of lobbyists in the near future.
That may be true in some places. Where I live, if you find your stolen good at the pawn shop, you still have to pay for it to get it back. It's a real pain in the ass.
I like Ben Bova's explanations better in his series of Orion's books. Basically, these superevolved humans created a special killer called Orion, and he teleports a bunch of Genghis Khan's men back in time to kill all the dinosaurs and the Neanderthals. The Neanderthals were actually smarter than humans, but lacked that killer instinct of the Mongols.
Free market capitalism is as removed from reality as ideal communism, and just as unworkable in practice with large groups of people. Social Security has zero contribution to our national debt -- if anything, Congress needs to stop looting it for purposes entirely unrelated to public welfare.
>
This is truth. Last I looked it up, the US government had stolen 3 trillion dollars from SS, in the form of low interest loans (which means that the effective interest rate is probably negative). That $3T is never going to be put back into it. If it was in there would social security be insolvent now? Probably not.
And what are YOU going to do about this? Keep voting for the same scum each election? i am sooo tired of hearing people complain about this and yet do nothing. That's what the majority of people have been doing for a very long time. Look at the approval rating of congress then look at how long most of these scumbags have been in office. Until you and many other like-minded voters decide to get off their asses and actually DO something we will continue to have the government we deserve.
It blew me away how Holder had such a difficult time saying it is unconstitutional for the government to kill an American citizen on American soil simply sitting in a cafe having breakfast who wasn't an immediate threat. Even code Pink and Van Jones agreed it was wrong and the government shouldn't have this kind of power. More people should be alarmed by this. The video of Holder being asked this over and over and his being evasive in his answers can be found online.
This is the truth. I propose we go one step further though, and keep up a running dialogue with our reps in the national scene. Contact them via twitter, email and facebook. Let them know exactly what you feel. That's how a republic is supposed to work, and in this day and age of instant communication there is no reason not to let them know what is right and wrong. And if they don't listen, then let them know in no uncertain terms they can start applying for unemployment benefits, because you are voting them out of office for not doing what the people wanted.
Yes, Catholicism has killed people. Yes, Islam has killed people. Yes, the conflict between Catholicism and Islam probably set science back several hundred years. Yes, government has killed people..
I wonder how sustainable a model would be for a credit like solution. In pledge to buy X dollars worth in a CSA, and i pay X/12 every month?
This is where the local govt or even the farm bill would come in handy to offer low interest loans to the people to afford to buy into a CSA. Give the money directly to the farmers and allow the people to pay it back.
Wish I had mod points. This is what I've been learning about over the past year.
You don't have to grow all your own food, but any food that you can grow will be better for you.
If you live in an apartment with no outside space at all, then look for a CSA (community supported agriculture group). This food will still be better for you and for the environment Yes, there is still shipping involved, but less than buying a head of lettuce in New York City, that was grown in California. Globalization is both a good thing and a bad thing.
CSA's are also good for the local economy. They help to keep your money in your local economy. I believe that if a large percentage of people in cities would buy from a CSA this would start to help with our high unemployment numbers. If you bought from a CSA, the producing farmers would need to hire extra help to do all the things that are needed on a farm. And of course this helps, local money move faster through the local economy. And this is always a good thing.
It's probably a tired saying, but think globally, act locally.
Wasn't that what Iraq tried to do when it invaded Kuwait? We all know how that turned out.
I understand that. My point is that all the taxes that are being paid by Google to provide a free lunch to employees might be a sum gross total more than the income tax that would be paid by the employees if it was calculated as a bonus. I don't know, and I'm too lazy to even try and calculate it.

I remember reading about a self driving car with a 486 processor running Linux back in 97 or 98.

You must not pay attention to the United States voting scene, if you don't think we are still very much a herd society.

Yes sir, I am sorry about that.
I think they want everybody to use Google Currents, but I'm not a big fan of it.

I for one welcome our new communist hacked drone overlords.
