Before the "NET Book Agreement" broke down you could get Academic books at reasonable prices in the UK. Since then the prices have gone through the roof for most book except crap Biography books of Z-List celebs!!!!
Never liked them much. Xandros is on the way out too. Only thing it has at the moment is that it's shipped on the Eee PC by default (apart from XP). But Given that people then stick their own flavour of Linux on an Eee (Like Ubuntu). Once the UMPC version of Ubuntu is release,d it might take over Xandros's place on the Eee PC's
Going by their logic all you need is a 50Gb drive filled with random data blocks. If you know the content of each block, you could easily recreate "ANY" file by selecting the appropriate blocks in order then phrasing them into the appropriate format. No need to send the copyrighted files, Just the index of what blocks to put in which order. Hey presto have every file you'll ever download already on your PC.
I think if you refuse to start the laptop or refuse to give them the password to log on, then they can take the laptop off of you, or refuse you entry to/ exit from, the US.
They will probably take the laptop off you and copy the entire contents, if you're lucky you'll get the laptop back in 6 months...
doesn't the X-Ray machines you pass your bags through show up most of this stuff anyway? and if something suspicious pops up on the X-Ray screen then Customs have probably cause to open the bags.
Also the difference between the laptop and a suitcase is that the can't take your suitcase away and photocopy / photograph the entire contents without proper cause. They can take an entire copy of your Hard Drive off of your laptop for no reason.
Isaacs should have checked his billing system...
He could have been found "Not-Guilty" by now. Well at least "case dismissed" due to a threat of certain info getting released to the press and his Wife:D:D
Does the Encryption chip have a single "Master" Decryption Key, or does each MoBo maker have their own? Or will they try and make it Region specific again?
We could be seeing "Exclusive" games released in partnership with a MoBo maker. Or released in the US only. But game will not work in others till they release a patch or update a few weeks or months later. if ever....
All the US Government need to do is Copyright Terrorism. wait an hour. Then slap Google Video with a DCMA takedown order! That video will be down faster than Paris Hilton's undies!
Currently my mobile is running (in standby) = 0.3w / 0.12A / 4.07V / 29.8c You gotta love Nokia "Energy Profiler":D

Under the "Data Protection act" in the UK a company can only charge a Maximum of £10 for providing information stored on it's computers about a person.
it probably cost the lawyers a whole lot more but can only pass £10 Including VAT @ 17.5% on to the person the letter is addressed to.
IANAL but Scot's law is different than English law.
But demanding that the person pays money with no evidence of a crime presented to him, to stop them going to court is technically extortion. Basically "pay us or else"
The lawyer should have phrased it differently i.e.
"We have evidence you have illegally obtained software using a P2P client. Please contact the lawyers to discuss this matter and see if an amicable arrangement may be worked out." or words to that effect. That way he is giving the client an opportunity to provide evidence to the contra and to disclose evidence of the crime in question.
But what do i know I ain't a solicitor / lawyer or a legal dude....:D

Hopefully access to the source will make the Nokia Symbian phones a bit more Linux friendly :S
It was their Bit Torrent line that was cut :)
Are they worried we'll download their latest mobile phone on Bit Torrent instead of buying it with a 18 month contract??

Under the DPA; a company can only charge £10 per request, not £20.
