Can't believe you publically admitted to watching CSI:NY, every time my GF watches it I have to be forcibly restrained such is my rage at their ludicrous representation of police work and computers.
Pretty impressive, but if I look hard enough I think I can probably find a 3DFX Voodoo II, and probably a Rage pro II turbo with 8 MB of RAM to go with it!
Yes I should clean out my "just in case" box more often...
Ha! Too true, I did the dist-upgrade all the way from 8.04 to 10.04 out of a combination of laziness and curiosity, definitely wouldn't recommend it. The result is quite slow and buggy, I find it a bit annoying having to keep up with the constant Ubuntu upgrades at the moment, I like the latest features, but can't really be bothered re-installing every 6 months...
I couldn't agree more, I'm a fairly light user of my xbox and I've had one failure, the thing roars like a 747 whenever it is switched on and doesn't play nice with video files - why do I have to re-encode files so they play when it can play fine on Linux for free?
My house is almost microsoft free, the xbox is the last remnant of the evil empire there, the sad thing is with Sony also being arses it's hard to know what to replace it with for games. My HTPC running linux is great for emulation, but not much good for the latest and greatest games.
R-type was ported to practically every platform, I even had a version for the Sinclair Spectrum (not exactly "arcade perfect"!). It's still one of my favourite games, have it now on XBLA, but the D-pad on the xbox is hopeless...
if you don't mind me asking, what were the problems? I'm kind of on the cusp myself, and not too sure if I should go ahead given I have a working installation ATM...
Stuart
Agreed, Sony used to make great HiFi, when I see their name on something now I just expect it to be overpriced (Vaio anyone?).
I thought for a long time about buying a PS3 but went for an Xbox in the end because of the price, and MS being MS I expected their security to fall before too long, in the end no access to the graphics hardware via Linux on PS3 and Sony's outright cheek here has meant I am very glad I didn't spend the extra money.
Sorry, it's too expensive to even assess if there's any money to be saved by switching.
Next item on the agenda, can we get some sort of magic machine that makes sure no-one is watching anything dirty in their computer?
I presume then that like me you have found yourself in the situation where too many "Ok" clicks when installing itunes against your will has led to Quicktime stealing all your media types?
It is probably also worth noting the fact that Russia also has some of the worlds largest reserves of oil and natural gas and considers exploiting them to be one of it's most likely avenues to economic success.
Herein Edinburgh we had some of the earliest exploitable shale reserves, mined by James Paraffin.
These were apparently fairly clean and rich in oil content by comparison to the ones discussed in US and Canada, and there are literally HILLS of shale littered over central Scotland left over from the processing. Might want to think about where you are going to put those...
Well, I'd prefer to have a media box that was always on, "acquiring" content for me via a torrent DLer, with access to as much storage as I care to stack on to it.
My main machine is a laptop for practicality. My point is that the 360 could have been a great machine, but they have traded this versatility for increased security (look at how much work has gone into cracking the thing!).
And yes, of course I've updated my dashboard, you may not have noticed, but it is mandatory! I still get "Need to connect to xbox live to find correct codec", "Awwww, Codec not found..." - It's like the classic WMP experience! FFdshow plugin plays it fine on the PC.
Oh is that all? Install and stream over the network in an appropriate format? Why doesn't the damn thing just play the divx files when I connect up a USB hard drive?
That's what I expect a media player/HTPC to do. I'd bet it's be easier with Linux on, but Microsoft have gone out of their way to make the box useless for anything bar playing games for some reason.
Unfortunately parties are not water soluble, to properly rehydrate you should use a mixture of water and a minimum of 5% C2H5OH.
Stronger solutions may increase the rate of rehydration, but can lead to runaway exothermic parties. Discretion is advised.

You sound liek you're looking forward to a few shifts down the shaft, good luck with that. Or do you expect mexicans to do the actual digging?
According to a lot of other news I've read a shortage of Carbon isn't really the issue.

There were was, like, way too many characters in the old version, the new one just has adam, moses and jeebus.

Clue: He's using a Dell.

In my experience internal fog on car windscreens is caused by dirty windows.
If the windows are spotlessly clean then condensation doesn't start forming on them.
Then again, it doesn't often get down to -40 in my neck of the woods very often (or in anyone's!).
You forgot to mention the shiny shiny screenshots of the product!
Surely something with a button that big and red must be awesome.
Maybe you should look at the form again...

Cowardly Palestinians, why can't they just mobilise their army and storm across the country killing women and children like real war criminals!

Recently I had to send payment to the DVLA (UK version of DMV), and the payment had to be enclosed with the form.
Cash was not acceptable (obviously) so I had to send a cheque or a postal order. How will this work now?

No you weren't I don't want to stream from a Windows PC either! That was exactly my point!

I wish I had bought a PS3 instead in retrospect.
