Agreed. My phone (Sony Ericsson k790i) actually can handle almost anything a smart phone can. I have the ability to make calls, text, take pictures (LOVE the camera on this thing), and surf the web. As well, I can set up calenders and E-mail on it quite easily. Finally, there are tons of apps for this thing (getjar.com FTW) even with it being 4 years old now. My wife bemoaned the fact that when I received this one that she would never get me onto a Blackberry because the camera was so good. Finally, my wife's blackberry bill is about $95 a month, where mine is $42 and I have unlimited internet and text. Why pay more?
When I was back in high school (early 90's) my friend owned a 1978 Oldmobile Cutless with an 8 track. Since we only had CD's we used a CD to cassette adapter in the cassette to 8 track adapter to listen to music while we drove around. not exactly the coolest setup ever, but it worked!
The attacker(s) really must be either. Taking down a benign and beloved website which is frequented by a legion of genius coders is really asking for it.
Agreed. My parents used to own a New Yorker and the very first thing my Dad would do when he got in to drive was turn off the traction control. It was the hot rodder in him. Now I own a New Yorker as well (not the same one) but I don't drive it enough to care.
I will say those cars were pretty quick though - My Dad dusted a couple of Camaros in it.
Between the story and the beginning of the comments on the right side is a thermometer which lets you play with the settings of what you can see. Actually, I kind of like that feature - I have everything below 3 abbreviated. Lets me see all the comments relatively cleanly.
Hmmm... the reply text box is lagging pretty badly and I noticed that abbreviated comments lack the actual scores and hide high scoring comments below them. Interesting.
First thought: OK, so they made it look like Facebook. Huh?
Other thoughts:
1) The grey border is not needed.
2) I agree with the other posters - way too much white space.
3) The boxy look is not my cup of tea, but I can live with it.
4) The lack of seeing the other comments below the threshold is not good. I do applaud the thermometer under the story though.
Overall, maybe something which should have been rolled out on a beta site to get feedback and to fine tune it before releasing to the masses. But hey, change can be good and if you have basically tore out everything and rebuilt it, it's a good first step.
I know about Appleseed and I am on Diaspora, but I wonder if there is truly an alternative beyond hunkering down and cobbling together a website on my own server. Appleseed and Diaspora barely have left the starting line and are galaxies behind facebook and I'm not sure all the money from Google, Microsoft and China combined could get either of those two sites to within shooting distance.
Diaspora has the makings of a really beautiful, non-cruft social network but right now it's one half-step above proof of concept. Some things work, but not many.
I agree with all your points, but this film was worth it.
I'm a married father as well and a date night costs about $40 for tickets and snacks ($25 for the second run show) plus another $40 if we go out to dinner afterwards, and that doesn't include babysitting and the like. It was still worth it.
Agreed, although not for the reason you spoke of. I watched it over the weekend and was probably one of the best movies I've seen in years. Rush, Bonham-Carter & Firth were great and the script was rock solid. Definitely worth the money to see it on the big screen.
Most likely. It would smell like the mother and would be an obvious newborn once the mother gets up after giving birth. I realize it's not really analagous but growing up on a cattle farm we had a number of times where a mother which lost a calf would take on a new calf (after a bit of encouragement), so even without it being considered it's own initially (which it is), the baby would be able to be mothered all the same.
Of course, we are worrying about a mammoth which would be cared for better then many many human children irregardless if the mother accepts it or not.
That's the thing I found most interesting in the article and they leave it. HOW will the human species evolve on the red planet? Lighter bone structure, ability to breathe less oxygen-rich air? Seriously, details!
Wait, this was from Fox News and it has a picture of Barbarella on it? WTF?
It's 8:30 Monday morning after a night of insomnia. DO we REALLY need to deal with GPL this early? Can't we do something simple like create world peace?

Never mind. I'm obviously not up on my pop culture.
I might have to turn in my geek card for this, and I did find it funny, but what the hell are you referencing?
Whitesnake
*BLINKS*
or whatever it is that today's teeny-boppers download
*Looks at the calender* Seriously, of all the bands you could have pulled out, WHITESNAKE?!?
Pray I don't alter it any further.

What? Actually, the Ubuntu Forums are very clean and helpful. I have never seen anyone badmouth somebody.
Oh wait, you wanted to be fed.. My bad.
Essentially like winning Civilization 4 with culture.

Yes. I didn't have anything beyond the opening scene.

That is a cool hack. I wonder if Microsoft had any idea the Kinect would become such a cool hacker piece of equipment?
You have it wrong. The lawyers KNOW this is a losing fight. They have just convinced the guys who sign the checks it's not.
The RIAA group wants to make it easier to block TLDs from being enacted by simply saying 'this effects us' without showing any actual proof.
I can get Flickr on it now. Flickr has EVERYTHING I would want.

Do you SEE a like button around here?!
Actually, Slashdot's moderation system on Facebook could be pretty interesting.
