    The RIAA's tactic is to intimidate the unknowing into capitulating without a fight. All it costs them is a a few bucks for a secretary to mail out the letter. Once they get into 'real' lawyering with judges and opposing counsel, then it starts to cost real money. That's why they either get a quick settlement or they cut and run.

    Then buy the one with Windows installed on it, remove Windows and install Ubuntu. Then send Asus a refund request for the Windows Home license that you didn't use.

    In this case, I have to agree with Ray. In many 'cutting edge' areas of law many judges cannot be 'up-to-speed' without input from reasonably respected sources of legal scholarship to draw upon.

    That there are still public officials and CEOs of public utility companies, that are in charge of critical nationwide infrastructure, that think it's okay for these things to still be connected to the Internet.

    At that sound level -and given the density of the transmission medium- it is most likely that the animal is experiencing actual physical damage to its brain if it is close enough to the transmitter. It was once postulated that Sperm Whales were capable of stunning their prey with a sonar 'blast' and it is known that the Pistol Shrimp, stuns its prey with a sonic 'click'.     Common sense approaches to system security tell me that if I was in charge of these systems they would be secured by every means possible. There is absolutely no excuse for exposing critical infrastructure to attack by every thirteen year old Romanian hacker on the planet because I was not familiar with the latest means to secure my networks. This is, after all, the 21st Century.

    'Public officials' are responsible for making sure that infrastructure like traffic lights, water systems, sewage systems, and the like, are completely secure and isolated from any 'public' network like the 'Internet'. If the control systems for these critical systems are connected to the 'Internet', every citizen should be outraged at the complete disregard for the security -or lack thereof- for these systems.

    "measurable and auditable cybersecurity standards" that would apply to private companies as well as the government.

    Until your elected representatives fully understand that any public infrastructure networks should not be connected to the 'Internet' -for any reason- any discussion of 'cybersecurity' is simply wasted words. WTF does it take for these 'public officials' to realize that critical infrastructure networks need to be completely isolated and secured from the hostile environment that the 'Internet' has become?

Whether you chose to shout your comments from the gallery or in front of a microphone, the right to express one's opinion -on any subject- should not be subject to persecution by any person. That is why it is the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution. To the citizens of the burgeoning republic, there was nothing more important than the right to speak freely and without retribution.
