    Security at the expense of our liberty isn't acceptable means though.

    If they have REASONABLE SUSPICIONS of someone's guilt, then they should have to:

    • Obtain a search warrent to obtain the evidence
    • Obtain a warrent for installing a wiretap

    What part of this is unfair ? yes, some criminals would avoid detection.. But all innocent people would have due processes.

    And besides, Who does the FBI REALLY work for ? It doesn't appear to be the american citizens anymore....

    True but at my company, our experiences with Reiser FS were NOT good.. I believe we had it installed on our of our Arena boxes (100GB) and it ate the file system.. Not good...

    Does everything have to further Gnu Linux ? There are people like me who prefer FreeBSD for server applications. This is a great step to make more secure FreeBSD servers (and the next step will probably be the various Gnu Linux distributions including this.. Only FreeBSD did it first.

    But at a cellular level ? I can under stand that "normal" lasers would do that but one that is the same size (or smaller) than the blockage ?

    I guess that some damage could happen if the laser was too powerful..

    Oh ? Why do you say that. If I wanted to use software to create a commercial product I would go BSD before GPL. With BSD as long as I leave the original copyrights in place , I can do whatever I want to do with it (even create another OS like OpenBSD did from NetBSD).

    With GPL'd code (like the Linux Kernel) I couldn't do anything to make money from the code (because any/all changes I did would have to return to the core Linux Kernel group...

    The bottom line is that BSD's are better for "the bottom line" (think Solaris and the CDE [ created from the BSD'd X Windows ] and what its done for Solaris).

    Exactly

    I do work on a TV related web site. They had a top 100 poll of TV shows a few years back. Somehow, don't ask me how, I Love Lucy one (when in the results X-Files was #1).. The site had an idea of what they wanted and that was that (it was a blind poll where people didn't see any results so they couldn't tell if it was BS anyways).

    Or if they had a clue ( I know this is a BIG stretch ) they could install Perl on Winblows and use a perl script with WinLynx .. that would work. (until the box reboots - in say 10 minutes )..

    Still seems pretty stupid to me ! Hmmm.. I'm having trouble opening my HOT coffee, let me place it between my knees and try and open it, if it splashes, I won't get burned... Symantics. Fine she didn't do it BECAUSE she was driving, still doesn't diminish the fact she was stupid, I won't even open my cold soda cups between my knees because I don't want a bath if I spill it..

    If employees start leaking information before official announcements, the following can happen:
    • The competition can get a jump start on developing a spin strategy to say the competitino's new product is crap

    Somehow I don't think 24 hours is going to give a company much of a chance to create their spin control...
    • The competition can get a few days advance notice and come up with a similar product announcement (possibly before the official product announcement of the competition)

    If they were that close, what would it matter ? They would KNOW that Steve Jobbs/Crapple would release something at the trade show...
    • Stock prices can quickly rise and fall based on the secrets of insiders being let out. The SEC doesn't like this kind of thing.

    Why ? They released photos of a new product line, not the secret manufacturing methods or the planned merger with Snapple to produce a new line of flavored computers...

    When I worked at Hamilton Standard (now Hamilton Nordstrom) they had a "TDB" (Template Database) that was used extensively in the software group. I haven't worked there since 93 (and when I used it, it was at least 5 years old). This was done using a TPU generated GUI for a database running on a Digital VAX and displayed on VT340 screens.

    I would think that this would fit what this person is thinking of.

    And with the government requirement for documentation, all projects that used this TDB, would have it in their SOW (Statements of Work) and SDP (Software Development Plans).

    I already thought they DID run everything. They control how taxes are created (if a state wants them, they get all sorts of tax exemptions, etc.) They want laws passed, they lobby congress directly (campain contributions, etc.)...

    Its all pretty sad if you think about it..

    I personally he wants to be a "suffering martyr" for OpenBSD.

    I mean he can get the investment papers worded so that he can STILL do pretty much as he wants without worrying about the investors.

    Thats my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

    I always give the number of my VoiceData/Fax machine when they ask for a phone number. ITs priceless to hear the modem pickup and less that 10 seconds later they hang up. I'm gonna change the message at some point to "you were given this number because we DON'T want calls from you. Go Away !"

    Source code is NOT personal. No one could duplicate my life without my DNA and my entire life experiences.

    However, what I do for my job COULD be duplicated by someone with the right experience.

    Besides, my personal life is just that.. MY PERSONAL LIFE.. The government exists to do things that our state govts. can't. And I can manage my own life thank you very much...

    They don't. What the *BSDs first need is a package system as functional as any of the Linux ones. The *BSD port tree isn't a bad idea, but it lacks so many basic features (upgrading installed ports, for example) that it's relatively worthless anyway.

    Umm.. In FreeBSD there are packages. (From what I know they are similar to Solaris packages).

    Yes, there is no clean/simple way to do upgrades (I definitly belive that is a hinderance).

    but then again, installing from source is the same way (right ?).
