The coolest part about the engine design is that if your really just running an engine as a generator, you can do some very, very neat things. Like put in whatever you want as a generator, like Diesel, or Hydrogen, or even a Mr. Fusion. And in the case of traditional engines, you can be just like a train, and optimize the crap out of an engine to be as efficient as possible in a given, limited RPM range.
I'm sure the lawsuits by the people on the list who have been denied employment because of it, will be much more helpful in making sure companies don't want to go this route again.
IANAL....No matter how many forms you sign, you are legally protected from ever waiving your right to sue.
No, that is not true. Mandatory Binding Arbitration has held up in court many, many times. You are giving up your right to a traditional court, and being forced to follow the rules and decisions of the arbitrator, who the company that makes you sign the contract gets to pick. (guess who they side with more than 90% of the time!).
Hate to mention this, but Firefox came around, because someone took the source for Mozilla, and stripped out all the crap they didn't want. At first, people thought the guy was crazy; why wouldn't he want the mail client and composer built in, but in time, it became more popular because it was lean and mean, and now, Mozilla proper is no longer even mentioned.
So you could, you know, take the source for Firefox, and fork it, stripping the crap you don't want out. That is the main benefit of Open Source.
Or even better: Terr'st1: Damn, India just banned Google Earth to prevent what were trying to do.. Terr'st2: And that affects us sitting here in Pakistan how?
Except that you don't see any desktop makers supporting 8GB of ram yet... (32GB on the mac pro.) How long has 64Bit vista been out now? Go find a consumer focused piece of hardware that can do that from HP or Dell or Lenovo.. I've been wanting to throw 8GB of ram into a system to play with more advanced stuff in Linux. (video editing, etc) I am now going to seriously look at the iMac.
How long ago did Lenovo Buy the thinkpad rights? Cause to this day, if you need a BIOS or driver update, or need to read the knowledgebase, or their SPM site, its all at ibm.com. Seems kinda pathetic, really...
This is like the EU deciding what oil individuals should use in all their cars.
Your opinion of this would certainly change if you had the choice between buying Shell oil (they get to set all their own prices) and growing/making all the oil you need in your own backyard. You would be screaming about anti-competitiveness, Monopolies, etc..
Okay, I just noticed that they changed some things since I last looked into when I was doing Volunteer work a few years ago, and it is now Legacy, the project is now: https://fedorahosted.org/k12linux/
The site http://k12ltsp.org/ discusses the how and why of a charter school that switched to Open Source, running decent servers on the back end, and dumb/cheap clients on the front end. There is quite a bit of discussion on the site about the benefits, and challenges that you would face.
Actually, forest ecosystems rely on destruction every few years to clear out the ground clutter and dead trees. This used to be accomplished by fire, but then we started putting these fires out. Then, we logged them, so everything was in a balance.. but in the mid 90's or so, we stopped logging because of environmental reasons in the west, and over the last few years, we have had HUGE fires on the west coast. Logging or fire was the only way to kill the western pine beetle. With no logging, and putting out the fires combined, HUGE sections of the forest are dying. Near where I used to live in Oregon, there was a stand of dead trees that was measured in hundreds of square miles from the beetle. within the next few years, its going to be an insane forest fire.
It was the eastern seaboard. Most east coasters think the Pacific ocean is just past Chicago, hence why they call it the "mid-west" instead of "Almost-Central"
This isn't for server virtual machines. its for pushing apps and environments out to clients seamlessly. Microsoft has something similar, APP-V, and VMWare is working on it too. Why have office installed on every machine? Why not just push or stream an image out to the machine, and then you only have one spot to update, one spot to upgrade, etc. Think LTSP but on steroids... Companies are once again realizing that the biggest cost in computers is keeping the things secure and running...
So your saying my parents aren't hard core criminals for having pictures of me running around the house in only a cape as an toddler.. Damn, I almost feel guilty for getting them shipped to Gitmo... And to think they distributed that picture to a few relatives... I say let them hang!
The key is to sneak the tax in early, when it doesn't make much money, so the early adopters get used to it. Then, as its use increases exponentially, the tax is just accepted as the way it is...
Not to nitpick, but a DB dump that big to the local HD arrays takes just a few minutes, then you can spend as long as you want copying the dump over the network. (as long as it doesn't take longer than your backup interval.)
I love whens someone has a replicated DB as a "backup". I like to say okay.. "Drop table users". And then it dawns on them that the drop command would replicate....;)
Why the hell is the parent modded funny? Funny? Really? I'd see it as insightful, Scary, or just plain sad but true, but funny? This is exactly how the cops work in many cases. How many mobsters are locked up for murder? How many are locked up for missing a bit on their taxes... Which one really is the reason they are a danger to society?
If you got a netbook, or lightweight laptop, and need to work on a file for a huge code project, this would be much, much faster. Even if there is a bit of lag in the UI. Your server (or server farm) you connect to is just about guaranteed to have faster processors, more ram, and larger disks.
Have you ever used the google apps? They are actually very quick and responsive, and work in a similar way.

Just wait, they are just starting to gather strength. Fahrenheit 451 here we come!
Nah, Child Porn and Terrorism are soooo last administration. Now its all about saving American jobs...

The thing that scares me on that drive is the large pile of Chemical weapons just past tree farm.. ;) I just drive by in Silence...

It was sexual enough that at the start of the Bush administration, they covered her bare breast...
Amazon has a presense in WI. They own ShopBop.com, and I believe the store "the bop" on state street, Madison, that goes with it..

Got to ask.. Do you live in WI? Saw a car (think it was a VW) with those plates heading in to Madison on my daily commute..
