While I do approve, I also wrestle with the fact that he broke the law and put Americans in jeopardy. That makes me wonder how the questions were asked. To continue your point, the automakers are hamstrung by government compliance rules like California's CARB or ridiculous Federal mandates that require an entire manufacturers fleet to meet certain mileage goals. Safety requirements are another mandated and expensive area where manufacturers pretty much eat the cost of compliance. Manufacturers invest billions to meet those requirements through R&D and software, so it just makes sense they should try to protect what little magic they create. Additionally, warranty work directly caused by consumer mods can be expensive. What we need to have is legislation that clearly defines who is liable when a consumer modifies their vehicle along with a foolproof way to prove it.
Nothing would please me more. I went to vocational school and have been turned away by several employers because I don't have a degree. My personal opinion is that college is a business that has effectively promoted itself into being necessary for survival. Certainly someone with 20+ years of experience should be allowed to teach within their field, shouldn't they?
As a school board member in my community, I know that we would like our teachers to closely represent our district demographics. Our district is a combination of urban, suburban and rural so it's a challenge to maintain these numbers even though we have a university in town churning out new teachers. The fact of the matter is, people of color are not choosing education as a major and if they are, they are being hired right out of college by larger districts. For the record, I think the premise of the article is outrageous and most likely wrong. While I do believe kids need mentors, I also believe those folks can be anyone who cares. Kids can relate to whomever as long as an effort is made to understand their situations and any judgements are withheld.
Grid batteries have to be flexible. That means discharging rates from slow to fast. Lithium batteries offer that sort of performance and they offer good storage performance for their size. However, I am not sure if world filled with machines doing all the work would be a utopia or a dystopia. On the other hand, maybe by mechanizing we can bring industries back to the US that left for cheap labor. And, of course someone has to fix the machines.
Humans have an inherent weakness that will do us all in at some point. It's greed. Whether it has to do with religion, money, power or good karma on Slashdot, it's all the same. Lacking greed, people might be able to live together without fear of others. Unfortunately, greed is also what drives progress in so many ways as well.
Colleges and Universities compete with one another for grant getting researchers as much as they do for enrollment. From my vantage point, college today is big business with posh offerings for both faculty and students while being short on rigor and learning. What the article doesn't say is that there are more grants available now than at any time. The fact that older researchers are getting them may point to the fact that young people simply aren't being trained in grant writing techniques or they are being sucked up by corporations that need them and don't need to apply for grants. Obviously a person who wants to do research is someone that can think and they seem to be few and far between these days, even with a four year degree.

Eggs are one of the best sources of protein, are natural and can be produced easily in a back yard chicken house. I have also read that most of the rhetoric about eggs being unhealthy has been debunked. Unless you are producing specifically for people with allergies, what's the point of an eggs substitute.
I would advocate for no more Federal taxes of any sort. Money that goes to Washington never comes back whole. In other words, nobody is as good at bureaucracy spending as the Feds. We are lucky to see 10% of any dollar we send them.
Partisan policy aside, the government wants us to want them to regulate the nets. They want it because it will give them an excuse to tax your connection. Once the FCC steps in, they will need money to "manage" and to prosecute and to investigate. Mark my words, this has nothing to do with Netflix and everything to do with an additional revenue stream.
Agile, scrum, whatever. They are just buzzwords for some sort of kool-aid to empower programmers when they feel powerless. None of this can ever work unless the folks ordering the software or software changes know what they are asking for (rare) or provide an unwavering list of requirements. I am not paying for a service that has advertisements, period. I don't care if you add South Park or not. I would rather buy a box set of DVDs than pay for commercials on a streaming service. Besides, isn't asking me to pay and then watch commercials double dipping? They said, when I left, that the commercials allowed them to offer better content. How about charging me another buck or two for a commercial free service? End rant.
This is for the banks and only the banks. Since most offer some sort of fraud protection, this protects them from loss. I get it but I am unwilling to let my phone company connect with my credit card bank for any reason. It's a tenuous relationship as it is with me and vendor advertising partnerships. I can't imagine what fine print would be part of that privacy agreement.
"Educators are in it for the money a lot of them." Do you work? Do you work for free? Are you in it for the money? Why do you think principals and superintendents make what they do? Could it be that they spent 8 years in college to get their doctorate, probably at night, while making it on a teachers pay. Along they way they were probably great teachers, were good with parents and they know what it takes to do their job. So one person makes $250K in the district while some principals make six figures, you can be sure they earn it. The superintendent's position is 24/7 and principals aren't far behind. Administrators, unlike teachers work all year too, by the way. Maybe you should spend some time at your school of choice and get the real scoop before going off on a rampage about how others make too much money.
