We can't demonstrate massive Supernovas or massive Black holes in a lab either... well not yet, but give me a call when you do. I'd like to watch. Experimentation is one method to prove a scientific theory. Science: Come up with a theory, use it to predict somthing. Theory is then useful.
So for example...
1. Find fish foscil with fin on head 2. Go down ten layers and find said fish foscil with fin on tail. 3. Science theory says you will find said fish with fin half way about five layes down. 4. Now go check foscil about five layers down... WOW... there it is !! Well theory is now useful.
Who is going to pick someone who is smarter than them, or who is going to give them competition for promotion?
As the rule goes... A class managers, hire A class people. B class managers hire C class people.
A class managers do not feel threatened, so they hire the best there is. The result is a great workplace. B class managers on the other hand want to make sure their staff is dumber than them selves, so they make sure they hire C class staff.
So the rule is, if your boss is a moron... you should be worried.
The Xoom is beautiful hardware (personal opinion) The software is very good too, it needs one update and it will be great. You guys are judging it too soon. Honeycomb might be on a logarithmic curve, or ir may tank. I bet on the first, and I baught one. I am having fun waiting though
If Google can get slammed for mearly collecting public view wifi info from open networks, and claim they did nothing to that info, I am guessing that Apple can and shoudl get slammed to teh 9th degree.
A buit of fear might help... and the only fear that works is if stock holders loose money because of some action.
To add to that, the portholes would not be as intresting as they would have to be rediculously thick so you'd see most things through a video camera and a screen.
Be cool to drive it and chase aroud whatever does live in those depths
Don't worry, that was fixed. Pretty soon the story was about the creator, and people where just interested in his sexual exploits and nobody cared about the contents any more
You just went through a whole collection of slashdot posts and picked the negative ones on the iPad, and pretended they are the slashdot position. You like iPads, good for you, they are a beautiful piece of work.
I lilke Android... I have arguments, to me an iPad is simply a large iPod touch teethered to a computer. I like an SD card, 4G and widgets and an open system that I can program easyly and a choice amongst many options . This is not a Slashdot oposition, just mine. So read through and get some quality time reading Slashdot. It is as if sombody insulted your sick mother or somthing.
Did you guys realise that Windoes 8 existance was announced at CNET in January and... nobody cared, nobody noticed. It was all about Android and even Honeycomb which was a practical vesrion of the market speek in this MS video.
You forget that Canada and Venezuella each have tar sands that are equivalent to the words oil reserves. A nuclear plant can create cheap steam. If a barel of oil hits $200 then it will be economical to make them oil without nuclear. We have oil for a century and then some...
Simply it would be interesting to see if they have an GPL code or any questionable code in there. Open source using companies can be procecuted if the wrong thing slips in. Closed source companies can't be...
"One calculation showed that a ropeway only 1 mile (1,630 metres) long with a difference in altitude of 0.4 miles (645 meters), would require a railway of 15 miles (24 km) to reach the same point. "
In other words you need to cut up a mountain and rise at a shallow angle that wont spill your tea in a train. In a ropeway you simply put up towers with a tiny footprint and on the way down you produce energy !!!
Given windows 8 beta was shown off at CES 2011 and nobody cared, I think the writting is on the wall. I mean normally it would be huge news, Windows 8 running on Arm which is about tablets pretty much... but all they got was a meh whatever
Well think of it this way, all this technology is going open source:-)
Why not, let it be that way. many things are going that way. Music CDs are dying and you can only make money through live performaces.
Simply put China is a huge market, and so they have huge leverage... and it works. Many countries buy weapons via technology transfers with France, Germany, Russia and the US. It's an old trick
Look up speciation.

You seem to need a hug, but given you don't accept hugs, I recomend a book instead
"Rational optimist" by Matt Ridley. Read some of his other books, but this will be a good start.
"all" ... is that like saying, did they get rid of all the bugs ?

Are you kidding me, there are at least 50-150 million real users in Australia alone !!!
Jimmy carter was an Engineer,
Presidents have been lawers ever since
So now we have plannd for the 1/100 years event.
When the 1/1000 years event strikes, we will plan that as well.
For example spontaneous volcanism, 1000 tonne meteor strike.

Unfortunately one match kind of does more damadge than a glass of water does good
This sounds like RIM are performing an embrase and extend with the final step being inevitable on them selves !?!?
Big deal so does a pencil ...
They have to come up with good ideas that I am willing to spend money on.
Give it a break
Its about proving the negative
If you tell me
"Prove to me that the house accross the road does not have gosts."
This is impossible, because the gosts might have been out on trip on the day of the investigation.
On the other hand, if you can prove to me
"Prove to me that the house accross the road does have gosts."
You win, so the proof is in your court
maybe the see an opportunity is sue ...

Yep ... imagine your lifestyle with out chineese goods :-)
This US is simply a junkie to chineese goods, that is why China can demand more and more from you.
Well think of it this way, :-)
