Yeah my first car, a 1996 Dodge Neon had the death rattle at about 70 mph. And the window seals broke open at about 60 mph making for a really loud ride. Granted the main thing preventing me from driving it faster was the fact it took about 90 seconds to get from 70 to 80. And about as long to get back to 70.
This is fine as long as they get the keyboard back. The single greatest Human interface tool (except for the SNES controller) not on a computer is really something sad.
I use IE 8. And it really is much better and right on par with Firefox... EXCEPT I can't do online banking with Wachovia, and SLASHDOT corrcetly. I have to open a new tab to reply, or read a hidden comment.
And to comment I have to use Firefox. Which is what I am using now.
I thought the real problem with global warming was humans CAUSING it. We were CAUSING the change and making it bad. How is involvment it CREATING clouds and making it rain any better. Sounds worse to me.
We need to stop trying to shape infinitly complex systems we do not understand, because there WILL be unintended consequences.
The battery life really isn't that bad, unless you keep on the GPS. But even dedicated GPS devices don't run on battery for more than 4 or 5 hours. I can get 2 days out of a single charge (low talk and internet), leaving 3g on but only using WiFi when I need it. I guess I don't use it for music or games which would probably suck the battery down, but really why do you need more than 8 hours of heavy usage time?
Plus when I go biking, skiing, or hiking I take a Nokia cheapo (I got for 10$) and slap my sim card in there. Beats the crap out of an iPhone.
It's called a CD. And I do think they sell them on the internet. They play in Linux (and really what audio format doesn't), and pretty much everywhere.
Now I don't think TPB is doing anything worse than Google/YouTube. YouTube actually hosts copyrighted material, which is so much worse than linking to it.
No it was 'disorderly conduct' she was arrested for.
Lying to your teacher, and keeping your own personal property is NOT against the law.
And I am not sure texting is really disorderly conduct, but maybe it was.
Personal Mass Rapid transit is really cool. It just needs to be setup in a way that it is analagous to a computer driving your car. With our current technology I have no idea whay this isn't being supported and promoted everywhere. Sure you have a vandal/vagrant problem, but you have that with all Mass Transit. And with some good engineering and problem solving those problems can be kept to a minimum.
Well I do agree with your point, but I think you are not seeing the whole picture.
An operating system is designed to control your hardware, applications interact with the OS instead of the hardware directly. So if you remove some hardware (USB port) you are getting close to the brink of not being an OS. This is more akin to Photoshop Lite having no select tools. This is fine if all you are doing is resizing photos, adding captions, and making them black and white. But by taking out a select tool your software comes precariously close to not being a photo editing tool.
And why not have an OS without a USB port driver. If you make a laptop (think Mac Air) without any USB ports why pay for a full version when you can have the Cheapo version that is just as good. I would think Bluetooth wireless peripherals.
And really ANY and ALL tierd software has crippled versions as the lower end. Why because there is NO cost with putting everything on a disc, versus some of it. WinAMP cripples your ripping and burning speed when you have the free version. Adobe tiers all of it's software, you can't make PDFs with fields without Acrobat PRO. AutoCAD makes a stupidly crippled LITE version of its software (without batch plotting) that I have to use all the time, because Engineers should get the CAD operators to do anything that requires full AutoCAD.
That is like saying why dosen't Adobe just give me Acrobat Pro when I bought Acrobat Standard. It doesn't cost them any extra. Which is absurd. It doesn't really 'cost' Microsft anything to give you the sofware. You are paying for functionality. And when you pay peanuts and get a OS that does basically anything you would WANT to do on a older/slower computer why complain.
Uhhh, Microsoft isn't really in trouble. They are still making obscene amounts of money even in the economic downturn. They just jumped on the layoff bandwagon because they havn't had the oppurtunity to 'trim fat'in a LONG time. How can you when you have been making absurd amounts of money?
Sure they may be loosing some market share but they don't really have any compeditor. OSX binds you to certain hardware, no sorry you can't use that Low cost mainboard you have to have this non-expandable expensive one that WE SELL (lets talk antitrust). Linix is great. I use it at home. But businesses need something that is backed by a company that isn't going anywhere. They need their product supplier to make money, so they can get help and have a gaurenteed working product. OSS can't quite do that yet, and will never seem as solid a product.
And I have 9 windows open and only 4 applications running at work. I normally have 2 more but I have been talking on the phone all morning so no music yet. And messenger is closed.
I actually think the 3 programs runnig at once is great (if it really happens, which I kind of doubt until MSFT says so). It will prevent things running in the backgrond just wasting sys resources. And it might allow for beter background program management in the other versions of Vista (because that is what Win7 is. Vista SP2)
I mean come on. Why else have a computer.
And I was an early Vista Adopter (I know someone who works for MSFT, so I got hooked up for basically free) and well I didn't really have hardware to run it (didn't have the sys requirements for aero and all that) But I ran it, it was just slow.
I finally bumped my memory and everything was a dream.
And after SP1 really Vista is better than XP. I know it was a long time ago, but when I was running 2000, I got a pirate copy of XP, and put it on my older machine, and it ran like crap (way better than ME). Sure it booted about twice as fast as 2000 but that was it.
My real gripe with Vista in only that they changed the control panel AGAIN. But at least you can put it back to 2000 style.
And the new 2007 office interface without the file bar, it is a better UI than having it. It is just different so people complain. Newer and different isn't always better but you can get used to it.
That was a really long rant for saying that KDE cant run Starcraft II which will become important (hopefully) this year.
A lot of people bash the environment as being bad. But I doubt they use it. It is a bit different that a PC/MAC but really other than file storage (which you can do via the terminal the old fashioned way) it is really a good interface. I actually have one, and would use it more if I actually bought a USB keyboard. That keypad is not much better than a cell phone qwerty pad (other than the spill resistance and cool green color).
Yeah but with all that information there is almost surly someone or some organization keeping a copy for themselves. Then when the Government makes the switch they get some extra bad PR.
This is the reason why Government publications are Public Domain, so that there WILL be a copy (or copies) around. Public Domain is what creates transparency.
Wikipedia is only 2TB total??? I mean I could run a mirror from my home server. After I delete my TiVoed stuff that is.
I am amazed how much information 2TB actually is then. Wikipedia is an endless supply of (hersay) information.
He is using 1200 kWh a month. This is a whole lot, but really not extreeme. His rates are just really high. That being said, doing 50k worth of power savings around the house would probably be 'greener' as if Air conditioning can be 'green'. For 50k, he could have bought top of the line appliances and heating equipment and probably had the same net effect on his power bill. I really thing power savings should have be imlpemented first, then the solar cells added to the roof.
That being said I tend to keep more than 3 computers running all the time, and 2 of them are P4s. So my power consupmtion is way high.
But really here is the order:
HVAC
Water Heater
Dryer (but the low power engergy star dryers dont actually dry, which is why they are low power!)
lighting
then your TV Computers and Monitors (lighting can ealily fall below computers and TV)
You can also get convection (maybe with a microwave assist) oven, an induction range to help with cooking power.
Keep your refridgerator closed and it dosn't use that much power
And remember that any power savings you get is less you have to COOL your place, so HVAC goes down also.
Yeah Blistex last winter gave out little tins with their balm. I got one, because I left my stick at home. Then I figured out it was the perfect size to hold thumb drives. So I went out and loaded up with tins.
I keep my SD cards in there now. The tin is perfectly wide, and I use a Paper towel for wadding to keep them from rattling around and getting out of order.
Oh and the 1a 1b 1c is the way to label your crap. I do it, with 1 in black, 2 in red and 3 in blue sharpie. Works great, and can't be beat.

This just in. Information can be used to bad ends. Information may be dangerous.
I am pretty sure all throughout history the availability of information has on the whole turned out to be good.
Especially pr0n on the nets.
Except Microsoft is still making money hand over fist.
It's called a CD. And I do think they sell them on the internet. They play in Linux (and really what audio format doesn't), and pretty much everywhere.

Hell Target makes available a lot of copyrighted works. I walk in, stuff my bag, then walk out. making available of copyrighted works What about that?

Well technically it is lack of Software support. But whatever.
Although I tend to disagree with the not a lot. Size is one of the big things here, and 16 vs 4 grey shades is a big improvement. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10159612-1.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=Crave

You don't have to rely on IE if you run Vista. Just saying.

Light means line of sight. Now I can't surf cloaked under my warm covers, without a cable that is.

But it would work if Wikipedia alwasy was seeding said information.
And actually doing it this way would go a long way to help legitimize (in many peoples minds) BitTorrent. Not to mention help with bandwidth.
