He'll try to convince them to can this stupid idea of linking all game purchases with a single xbox live account, and getting rid of the stupid "always-on" DRM requirement.
Curious which network provider you're using... here in Australia on Optus we have to reboot the iphone's regularly to get 3G access back... has occurred on the 3g, 3gs, 4 and 4s - as well as on my dad's blackberry. Takes all of 2 mins, and no, setting airplane mode doesn't always work.
Except that "transfer purchases" doesn't actually work, I've done that before every reinstall/upgrade and without fail, I get a message after the process saying at least 5 apps couldn't be found to be restored, and I've had to re-download them from the (cr)app store.
I'm pretty sure that Apple haven't done a x.3 version since IOS 4...
I have noticed my 4S has less battery life since "upgrading" to 6.1. Went through 80% in an entire day with about 30 mins of tethering and a few phone calls, as well as listening to music for 6 hrs. On 5.1 it would last about 2 days with that kind of activity.
Actually here in Australia quite often the local store is cheaper. Current example - Far Cry 3 - $69.99 for digital download only Steam, vs $59.99 in the local store for the Insane Edition with the survival kit and bobble-head figurine... Assassins Creed 3 - $45 at the store, $69.99 on Steam.
What it really seems to come down to — and I don’t think there’s a nicer way of putting it — is whether you’re using your computer as a work tool or a toy. If you’re using it as a toy, and as an entertainment machine, then with Win8 Start Screen and apps are probably cool and fun. If you’re using your computer as a tool, they’re just in the way. And now I have them out of my way, so I can do my work.
interesting... the article I read about this (as an external observer) indicated that a deal was reached... but this article seems to indicate the opposite.
The Smart TV apps on my LG 50" TV work, but take ages to load. Youtube is good, Netflix isn't available in my region, iView had problems loading the only time I tried it (but works on the Xbox 360 so I use that instead). I've tried the web-browser and it was really slow, and didn't handle forms entry particularly well even when using my phone as a remote control for it - the experience has led me to leave the TV there for watching the TV, and to simultaneously browse the web from either my phone or my android tablet.
As an Aussie, I approve of them making a stand against how everyone in this country is ripped off by all the media outlets - especially when our dollar is worth more than the US dollar. And as for making us wait 3-6 months because they don't want us watching... well, the internet tore down that time barrier as well.
It wouldn't have been such a problem if they'd kept calling things Linksys, and not put the Cisco Systems logo all over everything. Then releasing all the Linksys kit as Cisco SMB - that was just crazy.
is Steam Big Picture as a desktop environment for ubuntu, or something along those lines - a linux OS which boots up into Steam. So you can build your own steam console with the hardware you want (and is fully upgradeable when new tech comes out) and ready to rock as soon as the OS is installed.
Just because they can do that, doesn't make it right, especially when the services are provided in Australia (such as advertising on Google's sites, delivered via Google's equipment in Australia, as one example of many), and it's only the billing which is handled in Ireland, which it most definitely is in the case with Google. I'm not a mathematical genius, but the standard company tax rate in Australia is 30% - and when the ATO can see $1 billion of declared payments (including GST) to Google, and then a total payment of tax of less than 0.0007 of that income earned in Australia, they are right to ask questions. Google's laywers and accountants are taking the piss out of the ATO by avoiding to this extent.
No they haven't been charged with tax evasion. However, as the Australian Taxation Office has seen claims of AU$1b in payments including GST to Google through the quarterly business activity statements that every registered business has to make, there is a very large discrepancy in how much Google are paying taxwise and how much they are earning in Australia. Whilst legally they are financially providing the services from Ireland at the moment and physically providing them in Australia, these measures are being taken to ensure that in future they pay far more in Australian taxes on income earned in Australia, instead of siphoning all this money out of the country.
Well, that WAS an option, but I was hoping to actually complete the install, rather than have him crying in a corner and reporting it couldn't be done...;)
They were Telstra linesmen for almost all of the visits. The contractors actually bothered to contact me when they were coming - the Telstra tech's just turned up, did the work incorrectly, and then left. The last one who came was a contractor, and he fixed up the patching to the MDF from the building sub-exchange on all six lines. Even he couldn't believe how badly it had been botched. Crossed pairs, pairs tagged incorrectly, and since Telstra only issued one job for one line at a time, this had meant so many different visits.
To be fair the building sub-exchange was a confusing point for them all. After the 8th visit turned out to not have any tags at the MDF, I put up a sign on the sub-exchange door. As to the following 5 visits, well, who knows what those morons were smoking.

Am I clicking "transfer purchases" wrong?

What a shame you can't friend them on Facebook! :P
Hope you got a 3 year warranty with that inspiron, you'll be needing it! ;)

Oops... seems my trying to put target="_blank" at the end of my link stuffed up. This is the correct link.

Is it wrong that I left them because they screwed me over in other ways (hey, they are an ISP, after all!)?

Unfortunately the saying "no one ever got fired for buying Cisco" hung around after the Linksys acquisition and subsequent badging.

Seems pretty good to me, and doesn't bug you to buy the full version like AVG does.
I think you'll find the Australian authorities had nothing to do with it, since New Zealand is a completely separate country to Australia! ;)
... which is exactly the point of TFA! ;)

You clearly haven't encountered Telstra, and all their incompetence.
