I find a combination of find/grep to be pretty useful. Not sure about how unknown it is, but I do know that several UI-based linux admins around our office don't know about "stacking" commands. (I know, I know, one would think they would be mutually-exclusive;) )
Obvious flaw, is what happens when Bob and Alice are unable to take photos of eachother? If they transmit them to one another, then Eve has a change to read this image. Of course, they could also create an SSH tunnel, to transfer the keys, but.. that.. would.. be... ahh nevermind, I'm sure its been hashed out numerous times already on this thread;)
I wish you had some sort of reference for these stats, as I'm too busy to research it myself. However, if this is true, and Palin graduated with a 2.1 GPA and has chance to dangle her finger over the button, then we are all in serious trouble. Why are the dumb leading your country?
I actually take the strategy of not buying products that are advertised, or alternatively buying products that are advertised the least. I hope this catches on, because we are constantly being inundated with this crap.
I have committed the equally serious and hysterically funny crime of chatting my girlfriend up, on MSN one late night in the CS lab, with an AI talkbot that I found on the web. Conversation carried on a good 20 minutes before it started getting repetitive and pissing her off.
Not intended as a flame, but where did you take this course?
ABS or otherwise, nothing will put you in the ditch quicker than application of brakes. Essentially once your wheels are turned away from the direction that the vehicle is driving, brakes/tire tread are useless, and usually quick application of the binders and a sharp turn (dodging an obstacle) facilitate this scenario quickly.
I live in the bitter, frozen north, and there really isn't much you can do, except try to minimize damage to your vehicle/occupants, and learn next time, slow down. Really, slow down. 4x4 and ABS just get you deeper in the hole.
Couldn't agree more. All apologies, the first thing I thought of when I read the summary was, "Who ever buys a second hand game?", but your post made complete sense.
Pay is insultingly low, but there are too many unqualified people. hrm. How is management supposed to weed out all the dummies, and pay the good people their deserved wages? They can't, its not possible.
I disagree. What a decrepit model. What we are going to see is another iD software come along, release a free (*ahem* shareware) product, that is so good, people want to pay for it.
The industry is ripe for another iD, and the talent is out there. Not another Carmack, mind you..
This is true, this is true... but it is still fun to read people overcomplexify (yes, a word I just made up on the spot) an issue that at bare bones (save edge cases, as you described above) is 2nd year linear algebra:)
Although I appreciate Gamasutra for its laymen-type articles, in reality the portal code is quite simple. Simple matrix-multiplication kids. Take the rate of entry into portal A(incoming), apply this by the normal of portal B(outgoing), then multiply the new vector to the matrix describing the actor (in this case, the player). Don't forget the gravity vector!
Not terribly difficult, as with the WII Mario gravity. Although, I can really appreciate the creativity.

Script kiddies have been around since DOS days

And what if one or more of the actors gets sick?
You mean, like herpes?
Monkeys in the lab learn through trial and error that pushing the red button rewards them with a cookie.
Yes, yes we should expect better.
I see the problem.

I wish they included a video showing how this technology will work..
I kid, I kid

This type of device sir, would be a console.
Shotgun velcro!!!
News at 11. People are racist.
If I had a quarter for every time I heard the word 'n*' in a CS game, I'd buy that new car I've been dreaming about.
Because going hybrid is going to make all cars instantaneous 100% reliable and breakdown free.
I played that game with my ex
kidding..... no really
Dumbest. Article. Ever.
Mitnick never broke into anything. He called people up, and they relinquished their passwords.
BIG difference between comprising a printer buffer overflow to gain root and calling Sally the administrator and asking for her password.
As soon as I hit that one, I quit reading.

Anybody else notice the pictures of the person in the exo-suit (save robocop) are taken at wheelchair-height?
Hmm

I have a massive hammer.
I'm almost tempted to try to log into your slashdot account with lando-calrissian
So close, I would have wrote, 'ClimbIn 1/3'
