Well they're a bit higher up the food chain. Since they make the conflicts their contracted to solve they write many of their own policies. No doubt they'll just rewrite this one as well. No sense in upgrading the tech when paper is quicker to upgrade. Now that they've bought the world court system and convinced us all that wikileaks is a terrorist cell they don't have to worry about people reading their email or docs.
I had the "privilege" of going through the Sydney international hub quite a few times over the past 5 years. I'm a US citizen. I've been to Australia quite a few times the first of which was 1989. Back then I noticed that my accent and demeanor got me a lot of very friendly greetings, people assumed I was Canadian. I learned it was in my interest to not correct them.
Flying in and out of Sydney of late I noticed that a large number of Non-Aussies were getting pulled from the international line for "random" security pat downs. In each case the guards were very verbal about letting us know it was only random. But I don't think so. I had a 3 hr layover on one flight so I parked myself up in the food court which has a perfect view of the security check points for this area. And in 2 hrs of watching I never once saw an Aussie get a random pat down on an international flight. On the return flight I had the same layover and repeated my observation with the exact results. I even went so far as to get prepped for the patdown while in line. When they pulled me I was ready and the guard asked me why. I said: "You pull all the foreigners out, so I just wanted to speed this up." He protested saying it was random and I told him random does not equal 100%.
Time and time again I've been told by Aussie and Kiwi friends that the US military companies are in bed with the Aussie gov't and are selling paranoia at at premium. This news only solidifies that for me and confirms that I'll never return to Oz again. I just hope that Aotearoa remains a bastion of pacific sanity.
I've written to Namecheap and Netsol asking that they shutdown for 24hrs as well. Instead of just trying to make a few hours of inconvenience I think it would be prudent to make a day of utter chaos. We either pay now in 24hrs or pay later for the rest of our lives. Google et al should shut down ALL services for the day. These companies should inform their users that on Day X everything goes black and this is the reason why. There's been a lot of wind in the last year with the Occupy camp and Anonymous. But a blackout day would be a very effective way to let the entire world know how we've all come to rely on these services NOT being interrupted.
Of course they'll kill them. Since Israel is ALWAYS the victim (sic) and the only way they can enact justice is to butcher the criminal and his family and his friends and his friend's families. And rightfully so. All those people were either active participants in the crime or had committed thought crime by inaction. They all deserve the same retribution. It's what Israel does best. I think we should send them more money because they are such a victim all the time they need more weapons.
Almost anyone I know who does a lot of work in Detroit and commonly has gear in their car (vid/photo/computers) has a car chock full of trash. Literally trash. Old fast food containers, crumpled paper, broken bits of stuff. And the cars often look like they've been recently rifled through as well. Opportunity slows down a great deal if you have to go through a pile of trash to find the goods. And is discouraged when the car looks like any other worthless junker.
I was just going to say the exact same thing. It's not AI at all. It's designed to find out what you use for entertainment and how you got it. (torrent, theater, store, etc)
The real intelligence here is that he won a prize developing a corporate tool.
And then trying to extort Apple. Brian Lam by his own account try to extort Jobs on this. Demanding something in return for the hot property... He should be charged and sentenced.
I've got a bulk tape eraser. Which is an electro-magnet. Tried to erase a few laptop and 3.5 hdds with it. I could pick the drives up by it holding onto the scant bits of ferrous metal in them but was unable to blank any of them. I tried one drive for 3 minutes and it still booted an OS just fine. If they had beams that could corrupt their drives their keys, belts, zippers, furniture and every damn thing in the house with metal would be stuck to that wall before that drive got nailed. It's just normal lifetime use/failure of the drive.
WOW Bucko... that's awesome you were able to dig that up. I think that went out with B&W television. You may wish to update you dictionary and stop being such an immature retard too.
While I do not like the litigious (inherent) nature to the US mentality... I'd be happy to get hit by one of their cars. The hush money to avoid a lawsuit would put the next 3 generations of my family through college.
They've chosen NV because there's got to be a law already in place that makes them impervious to a lawsuit. They're google, remember do no harm and no fucking way you should trust them. But that's prudent with any company.
My first computer was an Amiga 500. And, honestly, I was awestruck for the first week of ownership. I felt like I was living the sci-fi fantasy I'd had just 10 yrs prior. An affordable tech that was simply amazing to me at that point.
I remember drawing on it and thinking: "The generation that comes after me will be like gods of technology. They'll have been born with this in their hands and it will bring them to new levels of intelligence, tech and opportunity."
This is just not the case now 25+yrs later. I work a great deal with teens teaching them tech from an art and theater end. What I find is that they know how to use the front end with incredible alacrity and skill. However once that tech has a glitch or fails them they're dumb founded. Yes, I am generalizing, but I've found an overwhelming majority lack even the basic sense to trouble shoot. At best they just let it sit until someone fixes it. At worst I've seen them toss cell phones and laptops in the dumpster because it was broke. (And I was able to retrieve it and fix it later.) It's that lack of trouble shooting ability that is the key to me. They've never been taught to do that. It's not just the tech that is different for them vs. me it's the societal thinking. You do not fix stuff now and keep using it. You toss it out and buy new. And that has deprived them of the desire, curiosity and ability to think creatively and trouble shoot.
While the complexity of the tech has grown since my first introduction, with an almost perfect inverse the ignorance of that same tech's fundamental workings has grown. Your results may vary, but this seems to be the same experience with a broad scope of my friends and colleagues as well. I personally do not see it getting any better. It's created wonderful consumers and that's just what the market wants.
Science assumes its truth to be be valid and will be proven false at some point in the future.
Religion assumes its truth to be valid and can never be proven false.
Both rely on an inherent faith that their truth is true.
"The argument is circular, it begins by assuming the truth and then proceeds to prove it." - Frank Herbert
Please let the shit storm begin.
Never buy a first run model of anything, even Apple. I have used their gear for a long time but once burned... actually 2x burned. Both were first run models and both had severe issues. What makes it worse is the Apple Spin Machine rarely will acknowledge these issues and first buyers are screwed. With the premium you pay they should kiss your ass for the purchase. But it's part of the cool culture and all that I guess. I'm perfectly content with waiting until a model is about through with its run before I purchase it.
yet another proprietary protocol. I'm so happy to see the widespread adoption of MDP has worked out. But I know this will satisfy Job's fantasy of one port to rule them all. I just cannot imagine the price tag on those devices that will be covered under that "all". (currently zero)
Seriously Obama, at least give head to these guys in private so we don't have to watch you do it on the news. It's embarrassing for you and, frankly, stomach turning for us.
Yes historically its called: facism. The only distinction being that in other countries they did not give a corporation the rights of an individual. That way, when you got tired of being shit on by the guy with a funny mustache and a propensity for opiates, you could drag him into the street and have a good olde tyme hanging. Now, we have a hydra and there are just too damn many necks to snap. Welcome to the new order.
The copious amounts of space top level executives in the USA take up has grown exponentially in the last 30 years. It is estimated that in the next 10 years they will need infinite space to just barely function. "I need more space than a third world factory just for my golf stuff. I have no idea where I'll put all my awards and toys. I'm really super worried about this." One Fortune 500 CEO is quoted as saying.

My thoughts too. Since Margaret Mead had shown that CJ could be transmitted by eating someone's brain in New Guinea in the 1950's.

If cell phones are allowed on the road, I'd like it to be legal to allow a 1000ft cell jammer in my car.

Who exactly defines repressive and from which side is this judgment passed?
Once given you can rest assured any power will be abused.
Because that requires a committee and would take 10x as long, if ever, to get done.

What single moment do you look back upon with the greatest pride/satisfaction? And which one do you wish never happened?
It went forward in time, no to worry though, it'll come back to our time and cause a self fulfilling time loop.
